When we last left the Desperate Housewives, Gabby and Susan were making wedding plans, Edie lied to Carlos about making a baby, and Lynette found out she has lymphoma. What can our Wisteria Lane ladies do this week to top that?
Gabby is getting ready for her wedding. She has something borrowed (a hankie that she sticks in her bodice), something blue (a garter), and something old (some beautiful earrings). But she's missing her something new, and she's about to throw a royal hissy about it. Bree is supposed to be bringing her this bracelet from Switzerland and she's late. When Bree finally shows up, she brings more than the bracelet. She's pregnant, surprise!
Go back three days. We hear Mary Alice telling us that there is nothing more important than families. They're there through good and bad.
Edie is having a dream/nightmare. She and Carlos are making love and her mother is sitting by her bedside chastising her for fooling Carlos. Her mother tells her that she's gonna end up old and alone. Gabby shows up at the house and gets Carlos to agree to at least show up at the reception.
Mike and Susan are planning their wedding, or rather Mike is listening to Susan plan the wedding. It's very expensive sounding and he tries to get her to realize how extravagant and over the top she's going. She doesn't want her wedding to be negatively compared to Gabby's. Later, we see Mike get up in the middle of the night on a plumbing call. He's advertised for 24 hour service to make money to pay for Susan's dream wedding.
Lynette and Tom have a $10,000 deductible on their health insurance and are having a problem coming up with it. She does not want her mother to know for some reason. Her mother shows up to help and they argue. Lynette, in the past, helped her mom during her breast cancer treatment and now her mom is here to help her, period. Since she gave them the money, Tom says they can't kick her out and the mom overhears Tom and Lynette arguing in their bedroom. She hears Tom throw Rick in Lynette's face.
Bree and Orson are packing to come back to Wisteria Lane. Bree tells Orson how fortunate she is to have him. It seems that Bree's baby is not Orson's. Whose baby could it be? When they arrive home, they run into Julie, who asks about Danielle. They come up with some story about her falling in love with some Swiss boarding school. Sounds very suspicious.
I am cracking up at Edie and Carlos. He has her going through all these changes trying to conceive since she's, in his words, "no spring chicken". He has cut off her alcohol and makes her elevate her pelvis for 30 minutes after sex. Of course, she's not thrilled, but pretends to go along with it.
Gabby is having a formal supper with Victor and his dad. The subject comes around to Victor running for Governor. Gabby tells them that she is not agreeable to this at all. The night before the wedding, Gabby shows up at Victor's room to make love. She finds out that he's serious about the Governorship and they argue. She calls off the wedding, but they make up the next morning before the wedding.
As Edie leaves for the wedding, the paperboy shows up. She asks Carlos to pay him. He didn't have enough money in his pockets, so goes into Edie's purse to get some and runs across her birth control pills. While Gabby and Victor exchange vows, Carlos confronts Edie. It gets really ugly and Carlos tells her he's done with her. Ironically in the background we hear the minister say "Introducing Mr. and Mrs. Victor Lane"
At the reception, Bree is explaining to the girls how she found out she was pregnant. To change the subject, she reminds Gabby that she hasn't met Victor yet so Gabby goes off to find him. She overhears Victor and his dad gloating over the fact that now that they are married, Victor will have the Latino vote and the Governorship sewed up. She leaves to find somewhere to hide and finds Carlos silently getting drunk. He tells her about how he's screwed up his life, he lost her, his house, his business, everything. She kisses him and they sink off of the couch .... I'm thinking they did more than just kiss.
Susan finds Mike asleep at the wedding. He's totally exhausted. She finds the minister and asks him if he's doing anything that night. Mike gets another middle of the night call and goes off to take care of it. Turns out it was Julie making the call. Mike drives to what seems to be the woods and is stopped by the minister with a suit for him. Susan has planned and arranged a very simple, very beautiful wedding.
Bree is sitting on the bed sending Julie an email supposedly from Danielle. Danielle calls complaining about the convent they have her in. They argue and Bree tells her that she has to stay there until she has her baby. That's not what Danielle wants to hear and she hangs up on her mother. Orson then comes in to help Bree undress and they remove her fake pregnancy stomach saying it's almost time to switch to the 6 month one!
Mary Alice voiceover time. She reminds us that families are more important than anything. She says:
But what happens to those that don't have loved ones to help in their hour of need? Some carry on alone .... we see a scene of Edie in a nightgown with a glass of wine, a note left for her beloved Carlos and candles .... and some simply stop trying ... we see what appears to be Edie having hung herself ... feet dangling ....
Oh my gosh, I can't believe that ending. Did Edie really hang herself? Or will there be a twist? I don't see Gabby sitting idly by after hearing Victor and his dad, either. What will happen on Wisteria Lane? I guess we'll have to wait for the next season of Desperate Housewives to find out. I'll be there!
