This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Yet another misguided effort by the law. Why not simply build a race track for these kids so that they have some place to race legally?? Racing is a part of America, its the embodiment of our country, driving competition, community and commerce. Instead of destroying people's hard work, why not do something constructive? If teens work to get money to mod their cars, then they are more likely to stay off drugs, not participate in gangs and probably more likely to go to school to learn more about cars.

Racing should be encouraged as these kids really have nothing else to do with their time, just give them a safe venue to race in - take a few million from the "war on drugs" budget and use it to build and maintain a track outside the city, charge admission, sell hot dogs, put gas stations there - collect taxes!! All a much better idea then simply wasting our natural resources by destroying perfectly good vehicles.

Phat Joe you are a fool. There are so many tracks in So Cal to race at already... Irwindale, San Marcos just to name a few. I think they get what they deserve. I knew a guy that split his car in 3 because he was racing an Integra. He died and the Integra left. If you have that much money to spend on your car take the time and effort to take it to the track and do it the correct way

Hey Mike, calling me a fool shows the ignorance that must be prevalent in that area of the country since you are presumably from there. It's people like you, only in more authoritative positions, that are unfortunately making these poorly thought out decisions. You guys have to think beyond "he gets what he deserves" and try and find a solution that curtails undesirable behavior in a constructive manner.

This is wrong on so many levels, but how about the waste involved. These cars could be sold as auto salvage on the condition they be broken up and sold - providing the same punishment to the offenders. But, thousands of dollars would then be available, if not reducing taxes, at least not throwing money away. If any business manager did this . . . well, anyone thinking like this probably never would have been in a position to make such a bone-headed decision. These vehicles were probably seized by law enforcement - could the widows and orphans fund not use the money? I don't get it!

So now what? Law enforcement is inspiring kids to run or evade the police so their cars don't get crushed. You would think they would come up with something better than a way to increase high speed chases. Which are responsible for far more deaths than street racing!!

the funny thing about this hole thing is that the police say they are doing this to make our roads safer, i work 3rd shift and have to take the expressway to go to work, just about every night 2 state troopers are also getting on the expressway one is driving a camero ss the other just a normal cruiser ,they both drag down the on ramp going at least 100 mph. are they going to start crushing their own cars or is this another do as i say not as i do? i don't know about the rest of you but when you are going 65 mph and a cop car goes by you like you are standing still it makes me wounder whats happening in this country were our police and Judges, and such think they are above the law and can do the things that they are punishing other people for.that goes for every thing not just street racing! I also think that this is going to come back to bite them in the ass down the road, I don't know about you but if i had over 10000 in my car and they were trying to pull me over and i knew they were going to crush my car i might not take my foot off the accelerator. how many people out there are going to do just that! people will die!
