Um..........wow, that is certainly an unexpected turn of events. Particularly since WWE is running one of their dumbest (not that any of them are all that sophisticated to begin with) storylines involving the fictional death of Vince McMahon.
I find I can't help but be curious as to what happened. I do though extend my condolances to the friends and family of Benoit.
That Mr Mcmahon faked death story line was a new low in the WWE... the storylines have been preatty weak since the "attitude" era ended...
Benoit was one of the best, one of the few wrestlers who was well known and respected for his ability and talent in the ring first and foremost rather than for his charisma/showmanship... and that says a heck of lot in the wrestling business nowadays when a person is recognised for their in ring ability rather than how entertaining they are on a mic... a lot of wrestling fans can't recall a Chris Benoit promo but they'll definately recall a Benoit match... for me its the Angle v. Benoit feuds... Chris Benoit RIP
Eh - I don't know about a new low (I'm thinking the Katie Vick story or Mae Young pregnancy hold that mark), I'm pretty they did the fake death angle before. It is soap opera and playing out pretty poorly played out but who knows how it woulda ended up (I didn't really have high hopes). The only thing that really bothered me was they were treating as a "real" death with wrestlers give testimonials and such. In my opinion that just kinda spit all over the tribute shows for Owen, Eddie, 9/11 (not sure if I'm missing one). Then this happens..............its such a loss and I'd rather of just endured the bad storyline.
Truly my favorite wrestler, saw his match last week on ECW...Hard to believe.
One of the seddest days in the history of wwe
One of the saddest days in the history of wwe
Chris Benoit was the consummate professional. He always brought everything he had to the ring, and gave the fans a fantastic match every time. WWE and its fans will truly miss him.
Rest In Peace, Rabid Wolverine.
Just to update my previous comment . . . the word right now is that the early ruling is a double murder/suicide. This is such a tragedy for all involved, and despite the possibly despicable actions of Chris, I truly hope that the entire Benoit family rests in peace.
Looks like Chris had some demons, although we don't yet know the details.
But...
If you kill your own son and the mother of your child, you sure as @!$%# don't need a @!$%#ing tribute show.
May they find peace. Any toxicology studies yet?
Heard a rumor that it was the wife who killed the son, and it was Chris who killed his wife before killing himself. Doubt that it's true.
It's sad that some of the best wrestlers of our time are taken early.
RIP Chris Benoit
Quote from the article:
"The WWE canceled its live "Monday Night RAW" card in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast."
If it turns out that Benoit killed his wife and son, and then himself...this tribute is going to seem rather self-serving for the WWE.
They should have waited.
Honestly - there really wasn't a choice. From what I've heard they found out about this in the late afternoon. At which point the wrestlers couldn't perform. They still had 3 hours to fill and all they knew is they had on of their own to honor. The tribute show was the only way to go.
Beyond that no one knows yet what drove him to do whatever it is he has done. While I condemn that and think it makes this all that much more a tragedy. From all accounts I've heard he was a good and decent guy. This wasn't an evil man (at least as far as I know). His life should be honored as much as anyones........even though it ends on an insane and tragic note.
He was one of the most serious and intense wrestlers in the history of wrestling. If their so called theory is true that is absolutly insane and out of nowhere. I agree about him not having a tribute show if he killed his son and wife. I don't believe it though. Everything about the situation so far is not right and seems out of place. My first reaction was automatically that someone else killed all three and i think i still hold to that opinion. It's all so confusing, sorry for rambling on. Theres just so much going on through my head after all of the stuff im hearing. Im sure im not the only one.
He was one and always will be one of the true greats!!!! RIP
I just wish whatever was going on they could have sorted the problem before it got this far!!!
I hope this is fake like Mc Man cuz benoit is 1 of da best wrestlers also though benoit was a nice guy he cudnt kill his wife and son.

You people are pathetic, making all these excuses and being apologists to a woman and child murderer. The worse kind of human filth. I can't believe everyone is saying how good of a guy he was. He is the OJ of wrestling. It's too bad he was such a coward and worthless.
I don't think this one insane, tragic, and horrific event should be the sum of judgement of his whole life. Outside of being a great wrestler, it seems he was good and decent man. The type of guy you want in your life as a role model and stability. This wasn't a evil man who wasted his life harming and hurting people.
Ultimately we don't know what brought him to this point. I imagine it was something between him and his wife. That he was at a point of loss and dispair that he believed this was his only out. Don't get me wrong here - what he did was horrible and dispicable. Whatever brought him to this point it was the wrong choice. That said we don't know where he was mentally, why he was there, and we don't know that we wouldn't have done the same. I pray and think I wouldn't but I've found in life there are moments when you think you would do and say one thing, but actually do something different, even unexpected when confronted with the situation.
I don't want to defend the act. I can't defend it. It shouldn't be defended. I just don't think one horribly bad act should define the whole of the man and his life. Sadly for most it will.
I think he should be honored and remembered for who he was, not what he became in his last moments.
OJ isn't the same cirucmstance. OJ is still alive and probably got away with murder. Furthermore his behavior since has been reprehensible. At points he has practically flaunted it. While it can be argued that perhaps he shouldn't have been at the time, but since OJ has lost any honor he had or deserved.
All of that said if Benoit was still alive and barring mitigating circumstances I'd give him the death penalty.
I disagree with some of the things you said.
The choice you make everyday make you the person you are. If you make the choice of taking a human life, your own child's life - then you deserve to be summed of for that event.
Nancy (his wife) apparently filed for divorce at one time because of his violent tendencies.
Let's try not to mix up what he did as an entertainer and as a human being.
A hero he is not. He died a coward.
The choice you make everyday make you the person you are.
Are you sure you want to be judged on one choice you made in your life? I know I wouldn't. I've made plenty of choices in my life that have resulted in people I care about being hurt (both intentionally and unintentionally, much to my shame) - I'd hate to think it is one of those choices would be the basis of judgement of the sum of my life.
If you make the choice of taking a human life, your own child's life - then you deserve to be summed of for that event.
Lets imagine that from a personal perspective. Pretend that your best female friend or female family member just had a child. Pretend that friend in a fit of postpartum depression killed her child, her husband, and herself. Would you want people to just write someone you know as more than a name in the paper to just write them off as a child murderer when you know they were so much more?
We don't know what brought him to that point. We don't know if found ourselves in the circumstances he did that we wouldn't do the same (as I mentioned before I don't think I would and pray not) I certainly don't know him personally, and what I know of him comes though from people who did. He certainly doesn't sound like a person who would do this - even though he did.
Nancy (his wife) apparently filed for divorce at one time because of his violent tendencies.
They also apparently reconciled.
Let's try not to mix up what he did as an entertainer and as a human being.
Thats my point - he is a human being. From personal accounts of those who knew him he was a good man. He wasn't serial murderer. He didn't go around hurting and harming people for pleasure or the point of just cause he can. In the end he did a bad, horrible, and evil thing. It is sad that for most that is what he will be remembered for but it shouldn't be the sole judgement.
My point is calling him a murderer is as simplistic as writing him off as simply an entertainer.
I also see this as a lesson. I have a tendacy to do the same when I hear stories like this. I think in the future I may try not to forget that they are more than just a criminal. That said it probably won't change my position on what appropiate punishments are. Like I said above - barring mitigating circumstances - I'd give him the death penalty, if not worse.
A hero he is not. He died a coward.
He certainly isn't a hero. He never was. I don't know if I agree or disagree about dying a coward. If nothing else at least he saved us the trouble of processing him for what he deserves.
It is a damn shame. What is going on with this world when you have to kill you own child and wife. Obviously there had to have been some drugs involved with this. A normal person wouldn't do this. I think it is time for Sports Entertainment to evaluate their superstars on a one on one basis. If they seem to be having difficulties, try to get them help. If they refuse the help let them go. Stop being so competitive with the other promotions. You are dealing with real people who should have a normal life outside of wrestling. I can not imagine the pressures on wrestlers to perform in front of audiences nearly every night. How can anybody honestly look at wrestling anymore as a form of entertainment. Back in day of Hulk Hogan and Andre and such they didn't have big story lines to follow, they just put on a good show for the people.
If Chris did this, which I am hoping not, then he does not deserve the recognition he is getting. Focus on the other family members that lost their lives Nancy and Daniel. By the way has anybody tallied up the life expectancy of a wrestler these days? Hogan and Flair seem to be doing well, it is the younger generation that are having serious problems. I hope Vince and the rest of the WWE come out all right but it will be along time before these wounds will heal. I think may have hexed WWE with his fake death, with the untimely deaths of Sherrie Martel and now the Chris Benoit.
Anyway I hope the Benoits, the extended family of Nancy and Chris as well as WWE may find peace in this tragedy.
without a doubt there had to be drugs invloved. Honestly, who could hold a pillow over their sons face while he kicked and flopped, no human could. it is a damn shame that the wwe is more caught up in pumping their employees full of "roids" rather than genuinely taking care of them and their families.i realize that it is sports entertainment but they should have drug tests and rehab set up like all other sports!!! saying all that chris was a damn good wrestler! prayers to the families invloved, vince think about what your doing to these families and chris, nancy, and daniel RIP!!
i think that benoit's death was a hit just as guerro's was, i think they were both set up for trying to get out of their contracts. now the wwe will make money off of their deaths.
