Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

The Chinese should begin by tagging and labelling all their exports so the history of each shipment can be easily and quickly traced back to the responsible sources. Tamper proof packaging and shipping will head off future problems.

Instead of being questioned, sources should be known and identified. They should be proud of their products or they should not export. Individual brands will gain value when counterfeits are prohibited and counterfeiters are prosecuted.

Made in Japan once meant cheap and inferior. Probably a result of news articles like the ones being published today. Now Toyota means top quality and Sony commands a premium. They are companies who insist on quality.

RFID technology will help the Chinese and others track their exports quickly, accurately and eventually inexpensively. The history of each company that ships should be kept in databases and their suppliers should also be known and their supplier's suppliers known etc. etc. all the way down to the original producers of basic ingredients.

Lester Thurow might not believe it but the GM signal indicates that US has been passed by a Japan which has fewer lawyers and more engineers. If China returns as the inventive people that gave the world the stirrup, compass, printing, and gunpowder then it will begin competing as Japan an S. Korea do today with new products that have great added value mostly due to intellectual content.
