I never got the point of trying children/minors as adults. We have the cut-off age for a reason.
I dunno...some crimes committed by teens are so heinous that they call for more than what the juvenile courts will provide, punishment-wise. Should a 16 year old who commits a brutal murder or premeditates, say, a drive-by really be release at his 21st birthday?
There is a reason that we consider a 16yo to be a minor and given rules that go with that, such as they can't smoke, can't enter into binding contracts, etc... The reason is that we do not believe their mental capacity and maturity level to be that of an adult. I think that is still true even in the cases of brutal murders.
I think instead of trying them as an adult to get around the rules, maybe we should change the rules to be more effective. Instead of automatically releasing them at 21, maybe they should be evaluated to see if they are still a threat to society and themselves or not in a case by case basis.
Now that is reasonable and I can agree with that. I do think that if a teen is convicted as an adult that he/she should have access to actual rehab efforts. Putting a teen in with hardened adult criminals is just creating a repeat offender in most cases.
the next time this dip@!$%# reed walters should be in the news is to respond to an indictment against him for misconduct. he won't last one night in a louisiana prison, and thats exactly what he deserves.
"District Attorney Reed Walters also credited the prayers of people in this small central Louisiana town with averting a "disaster" during the demonstration. Some critics of Walters considered that a slap against the peaceful marchers." He has to be the head of the kkk in a suit and making a mockery of justice!
This jerk, Walters is defiantly one can short of a six pack. When you're that big of a bigot then reality really does not settle in and your world excludes people of color, Jews, and other ethnic groups. I really hope this man is put in the hot seat really quick and striped of any judicial forum.
This is America's worst and a complete embarrassment to lawyers all across this nation. I hope him and the judge are thrown out with the dirty dish water.
There were not 20,000 to 25,000 people rallying....it was more like 50,000 to 70,000 people. Mychal had very large and strong support system. The entire case is pointless and should have never gotten this far. I blame the school system for allowing things to go down like this. If they had handled it correctly in the beginning none of this would have never happened.
..sooo true..that damn tree should have been cut down a hundred years ago..but you cant wipe the hate away with the removal of one tree...maybe now folks will stop just sweeping problems under the rug and wishing them away... it just wont work....and the list is long and the scope is worldwide....two wrongs don't make a right luckily in this case no one died or got seriously disfigured...no so sure about the mental health tho..on either side...but you nailed it..
