Cleveland Offers $100 Gas Cards for Guns

CLEVELAND — Armed residents can give up their guns and get gasoline cards worth $100 at the pump. The first 450 people who show up at Cleveland's convention center Saturday and surrender a working handgun will receive a card.

Police, who will be at the center to ensure the guns are turned in safely, asked for the weapons to be brought in unloaded and in a clear plastic bag.

The city has recorded 119 homicides so far this year — the same number for all of 2006.

Gasoline prices have surged in recent weeks, with the statewide average for a gallon of regular gas at $3.07 last weekend, 25 cents more than Oct. 22.

Considering some of our young gunslingers aren't old enough to drive, I don't quite see the point. $100 Rally's card would make more sense.

They do know that only the good citiens, the ones who uphold the law, will turn in their guns, were as the bad citizens, the ones who are doing the shootings, will not. This does nothing but take away defense from criminals and from the government itself, which is the real thing that we need guns for.

Never, never, NEVER give up your guns! $100 worth of gas isn't worth it, especially since it'll last you, what, maybe two, three weeks?

        Criminals love unarmed victims!

And considering how high gas prices are, $100 isn't worth it!
