Paul Endorsed by Nevada Brothel Owner

RENO — Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, an underdog Texas congressman with a libertarian streak, has picked up an endorsement from a Nevada brothel owner.

Dennis Hof, owner of the Moonlite BunnyRanch near Carson City, said he was so impressed after hearing Paul at a campaign stop in Reno last week that he decided to raise money for him.

"I'll get all the (working girls) together, and we can raise him some money," Hof told the Reno Gazette-Journal. "I'll put up a collection box outside the door. They can drop in $1, $5 contributions."

Hof and two of his prostitutes, Brooke Taylor and a woman who goes by Air Force Amy, attended a Paul news conference.

The women said they liked Paul's message, but wanted to learn more about other candidates before making a decision.

Paul spokesman Jeff Greenspan said Paul is a diehard supporter of states rights and an ardent libertarian who wants to return the purview of the federal government to what is articulated in the U.S. Constitution. Paul also is a devout Christian who opposes abortion.

"On a personal basis, he doesn't condone those things," Greenspan said of prostitution. "At the same time, from his campaign perspective, it's not the role of federal government and it's not in the constitution for federal government to regulate these things.

"The Nevada votrs and Legislature have decided it is legal activity in this state," he added.

In 1971, the Mustang Ranch near Reno became the state's first legal brothel and led to a movement that legalized prostitution in 12 of Nevada's 17 counties.

Hof was accompanied to the Paul news conference by television news personality Tucker Carlson, who is traveling with Paul for a magazine article he is writing.

"Dennis Hof is a good friend of mine, so when we got to Nevada, I decided to call him up and see if he wanted to come check this guy out," said Carlson, who hosts the show "Tucker" on MSNBC.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

what a joke. is who this guy votes for really news? is it really such a bad thing if a presidential candidate appeals to a broad range of people rather than just the select groups of corporate CEO that fund the media? I think this is gross. this article is obviously an attempt to undermine the credibility of Ron Paul supporters. Right now the media profits big time from such two party hostility. the media is threatened by Ron Paul because he challenges party lines with undeniable logic, experience, and the supreme law of the United States. this same two party system that brings in such nice profits for the media is also the same system that is currently paralyzing congress. In short, what is good for the media is bad for America. Few protest the fact that the media is scum. this article is an example of why. By spinning the facts and deciding for America who the "real" presidential candidates are, the media can continue feeding our disgusting two party system. Even if I disagreed with Paul's ideas, which I find is difficult to do, I would support Ron Paul for the sake of standing up to the modern political machines. George Washington said it first, the two party system is going to ruin our country. Please educate yourselves on Ron Paul and supporters will happily accept your criticisms. Although i have no doubt that this article was written to injure Paul's presidential bid, the profession of a particular Ron Paul supporter can't be used to criticize Ron Paul. www.ronpaul2008.com

I honestly don't think this is a joke. I actually love the fact that this owner of the famous Moonlight Bunny Ranch supports Ron Paul. He is an excellent example of a "free market" business. He exactly portrays Paul's message about government non intervention.

I also believe that this is some sort of attempt to attack Paul's credibility. The aim here is to say that Paul has no moral problems with prostitution, which is not true; he does have moral problems with prostitution. But he also has a moral problem with forcing an adult to behave in only certain prescribed manners which Paul considers "moral." That is the essence of libertarianism: that people are free to exercise their rights so long as they don't remove the rights of other people.

Besides, there are multiple utilitarian (read "practical") reasons for supporting legalized prostitution. Prime among these is that the proliferation of STDs declines almost to zero because brothels always require their prostitutes to undergo very frequent STD testing, either by state regulation or by sound business policy - what brothel wants the reputation of having diseased prostitutes?

This is yet another example of why America needs Ron Paul in office. Why does the media insist on combining sex-acts with politics? This is like saying that Britney Spears' life is of importance for the American public to be concerned about. It was a nice effort on the part of "Reno Gazette-Journal," but the only people who will actually fall for this attempted discretization of Ron Paul are those who live their lives by how the institutions tell them to live.
