LONDON — The value of U.K. Internet sales rose 29 percent in 2006 compared with the previous year, accounting for 6.5 percent of all nonfinancial sales, the government reported Friday.
Internet sales totaled 130.4 billion pounds ($270 billion) in 2006, compared with 101 billion pounds in the previous year, the Office for National Statistics said.
Total internet sales as a percent of all were up from 5.4 percent in 2005 and 1.1 percent in 2002, the report said.
The results of the 2006 survey, which was based with ten or more employees, revealed strong growth in the value of what was sold.
The proportion of businesses selling over the Internet rose only from 13.3 percent to 13.9 percent, the report said.
