Poll: Bush, Hillary Clinton Most Admired

WASHINGTON — They're the odd couple again: George Bush and Hillary Clinton, the most admired man and woman in America.

Though they stand on opposite sides of a political divide, the Republican president and the Democratic senator from New York are sharing the honor for a sixth straight year, according to a USA Today-Gallup poll.

They didn't win by much. Oprah Winfrey and Clinton's husband, former president Bill, were right behind.

When people were asked to name the man they most admire, 10 percent picked Bush, his lowest figure in the seven years he has been president. Bill Clinton got 8 percent — within the poll's margin of sampling error — while Nobel Prize winner and former Vice President Al Gore had 6 percent and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, a presidential hopeful, was chosen by 5 percent.

Whoever is president has won the most-admired title every year since 1981.

Sen. Clinton, hoping to be president-elect by the time of the next poll, was named by 18 percent as the most-admired woman, the 12th time she's been in the top spot. Talk show host Winfrey came in a close second with 16 percent. First lady Laura Bush and actress Angelina Jolie were each selected by 3 percent.

The poll, released Wednesday, asked participants an open-ended question, allowing them to respond with any names that came to mind. The rest of the votes were spread among a wide variety of government figures, movie stars, friends and relatives. Queen Elizabeth II was in the top 10 for a record 41st time.

The poll of 1,011 adults was taken between Dec. 14 and 16 and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

I have never in all my days heard of such lies and twisting of the truth. It just goes to show you when you have the Corporate media and rich horrid special interest groups in your hip pocket any poll will due and the real numbers matter not.

Hillary Clinton and George Bush most admired crooks around the world, now that's the winning poll for these two lovely candidates.

Who creates this crap?, someone please find them real jobs.

PS: Bush is not a candidate, and Hillary Clinton won almost 2-1. Wish they were all in the same poll.

I think this just shows that Newsviners really aren't all that representative of the public as a whole.

I think we are more representative because we are not filtered by the mainline media. Murdock influence everywhere and we know he thinks Bush is great and putting Bush and Clinton together is saying something. Two peas in a pod, bird of a feather flock and rise together etc etc.

Brother. How can any person reading the news much less writing about it possibly believe that Murdock has any affinity to any Clinton, much less Hillary Clinton? How can anyone, whatever political persuasion, seriously believe that Hillary Clinton is like George Bush?

Who can believe that any poll would say that Bush and Clinton are the most admired people unless the poll is fixed. When you are looking at the poll numbers Bush is looking at in the low 30's I think how could he be the most admired. As for comparisons it isn't hard they are both neo-con supporters and they both believe in the Iraq war and the share the same feelings about Iran. And I repeat they get their money from the same sources.

Because after all of the others get whatever they get, including Bill Clinton at 8%, you have the top vote getter at 10% who happens to be Bush. It would be interesting if they did not separate these people into men and women. Who would win?

Hardly a vote of confidence, just another phony poll to fill some slow news days.

It has been done for more than fifty years.
