You're a Packers Fan, Son ... Got It?

PORTAGE — Upset that his 7-year-old son wouldn't wear a Green Bay Packers jersey during the team's playoff victory Saturday, a man restrained the boy for an hour with tape and taped the jersey onto him.

Mathew Kowald was cited for disorderly conduct in connection with the incident with his son at their home in Pardeeville, Lt. Wayne Smith of the Columbia County Sheriff's Department said. Pardeeville is about 30 miles north of Madison.

The 36-year-old Kowald was arrested Monday after his wife told authorities about the incident. Kowald was taken to the county jail and held until Wednesday, when he pleaded no contest, paid a fine of $186 and was released.

Kowald's wife filed a restraining order Wednesday, so Kowald will not be able to have contact with his family, Smith said. Smith said other domestic issues have surfaced, though he wouldn't elaborate.

The boy refused to wear the jersey Saturday, when the Packers beat the Seattle Seahawks in a playoff game, Smith said. Smith said the incident sounded strange when reported at first, but the mother took pictures with her cell phone and that type of evidence is difficult to dispute.

Kowald, contacted later Wednesday by the Portage Daily Register, said the incident started as a joke. His son challenged him by saying he wouldn't root for the Packers. When he tied the boy up, the youngster was laughing while his wife took pictures, he said.

"Then he couldn't get out and he got upset and that's it. It lasted a minute," he said. "I didn't mean no harm, and he knows that, but I haven't been able to tell him that."

District Attorney Jane Kohlwey said there wasn't enough evidence to support felony charges.

"I wouldn't agree with what he did, but legally a parent can restrain a child," she said. "I have no proof of emotional damage. ... I have to follow the law.

District Attorney Jane Kohlwey said there wasn't enough evidence to support felony charges.

Though, upon further questioning, she admitted that the mother had been suffering from lactose intolerance. :)

In all seriousness, if my (nonexistent) wife tied my (equally nonexistent) daughter to a chair and told her that she better visit the same Ob/Gyn as her, I wouldn't call the cops and/or take pictures unless I was a poosay and wanted an easy way out of the marriage. This woman is a disgrace to all woman and should have her cl!t removed, lest she forget how much of a pathetic piece of sh1te she is.

(For the record, almost all of the women I know would have left a man they deemed unfit LONG BEFORE they were allowed to father a child, let alone raise one in a differing manner.)

Prilj, you seriously wouldn't call the police or take pictures if your wife started tying your children up with duct tape in order to force them to visit the same gynecologist? Beyond all the problems of parent/child relationships based on coercive practices and threats, I'll put this way:
I'm a pretty big guy myself, and I'll bet I could run over to your house and tie you up without much trouble; we're (potentially) talking about cases of physical domination and intimidation, and just as you have the right as an individual to be free of domination and intimidation from me, so do children have that same right.

Furthermore; your position that the mother was incorrect in her treatment of the instance is likewise disturbing; why should the mother have no, or less, say than the father in how it is appropriate to treat her children? You tacitly endorse not only a position which posits the inferiority of the wife and mother to the husband and father, and that this inferiority is ingrained in women, but that this said inferiority should be violently impressed upon women. The notion of a woman standing up to her husband seems to really enrage you, hey? You have some problems I think you really need to address.

You couldn't be less correct if you tried, but meh, that's your problem. My mom was beaten almost to death by my "father" when I was a child. I saw him 3 times in my life and two of which involved him beating and/or strangling her with an iron cord, so, no I do not advocate violence of any kind towards women nor do I find them inferior or express such an opinion. Thankfully, this woman is not ALL women.

On topic: the kid was laughing. The wife obviously wanted a way out of the marriage and didn't have the guts to step up and ask for a divorce. Maybe she knew that she wouldn't get custody of her children and when this "opportunity" arose, she took pictures knowing full well that the photos could very easily be taken in a context which would favor her. (Of course, I admit, that is all conjecture on my part, but you get the idea.)

Furthermore, if the man is "violent" as suggested by your view of him, then she would have noticed this about him a long time ago: these things don't just appear out of nowhere. In fact, they usually start with verbal assaults of some type, yet, there is no history of any such event occurring, though the article doesn't offer much via background information.

Therefore, the wife would have been well aware that, (again, in your estimation of the husband) the husband could be capable of such an event, if not of doing something far worse.

That said, I fully admit that my comment regarding her clit removal was a bit much, but I cannot take it back, so... C'est la vie.

Prilj, now being just over a year later your view on this case has turned out to be correct (at least in large part). Rebecca Kowald did lie to the police. She did attempt to set Mr. Kowald up on a fake child abuse charge. She had previously lost placement of her children when trying to leave before. The battle for placement and the most important issue for her of child support is still raging. The biggest difference this time unlike the previous times she tried to screw him over is that when she loses the war I doubt she will be able to screw her way back into his house where the kids will be.
