— A strong storm system in the central United States produced lightning, thunder, hail and snow over a wide area Sunday.
Widely scattered showers and thunderstorms developed across the central and southern Plains. Hail 4 inches across pelted Buffalo, Okla.
Snow fell over parts of the high Plains and Rockies, with the heaviest in Colorado.
Besides some scattered snow showers in northern New England, partly to mostly sunny skies prevailed across the East. It was also sunny across the West Coast.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states ranged from minus 5 degrees at Mount Washington, N.H., to 92 degrees at Laredo, Texas.
