Marine, Iraq Dog Reunited in San Diego

SAN DIEGO — A San Diego-based Marine major was reunited on Saturday with one of his closest war buddies — a 2-year-old dog named Nubs.

Nubs greeted Maj. Brian Dennis at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station when the fighter pilot returned from Iraq.

It was the first time the two were together since Dennis' family and close friends helped raise $3,500 to fly the dog to San Diego about a month ago. Nubs wasn't allowed to stay on base in Iraq.

Dennis, 36, of St. Pete Beach, Fla., had spotted the mongrel dog while on patrol in Anbar province and later nursed the animal back to health after finding him stabbed with a screwdriver.

He named the dog Nubs after learning someone cut the ears off believing it would make the dog more aggressive and alert.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

You are right this is propaganda. This is trying to make up for the whole throwing the puppy off the cliff in Iraq and posting the video of it on You tube ordeal. How about we reunite the the puppy that was throw off the cliff with the solider that did it. I bet the solider would just love to have a pic taken of him holding the dead rotting body of a puppy that lived a live of fear and pain and enjoyed a even more painful death.

Granted, I like puppies too, but it's a dog. It's not like the soldier was throwing humans off a cliff. The fact that any American could get outraged about a puppy more than the death of any one soldier is the real problem.

I agree with what you say. What I really disagree with is how government tired to blow off the entire throwing a puppy off a cliff and is all to happy to make a big deal about a solider who saves a dog.

Also, people should be even more outraged about all the human deaths that have resulted from the illegal war in Iraq.

The puppy cliff ordeal show the mentality which is growing along the troops. They kill so many people and witness so much death at the same time gain the knowledge that the war has little or nothing to do with protecting Americans that the troops start to loose respect for any kind of life. They turn into the same monsters who started the war in the first place.

The military is making a much bigger deal about major Dennis than is needed. How about making a big deal about soldiers saving the life of an Iraq child or a helpless women caught in cross fire. I never see any reports about troops risking their own neck to save any Iraq citizen. Although I read a lot about troops killing the people of Iraq.

Right. And video of a soldier throwing a puppy off a cliff wasn't.

The US military tried to say that it was no big deal. They ran around doing damage control instead of admitting that their troops are starting to loose it over in Iraq and anything that is alive in Iraq is quickly bring view as something to torture and kill in the minds of US soldiers.

Excellent ending to a great story. If you had followed it from the beginning.

Glad to hear Maj. Dennis is home safe and sound and his buddy is safe and with him.

          Go Brian...Go Nubs.
