KABUL — A policeman says a bomb has exploded near a power plant in southern Afghanistan, killing two employees.
The remote-controlled bomb was hidden near the wall of the plant and was detonated Saturday morning, said Helmand provincial police chief Mohammad Hussein Andiwal.
Andiwal says two employees were killed and six were wounded. Two civilian passers-by were also wounded.
The plant machinery was slightly damaged, but the power supply was not interrupted, Andiwal says.
The explosion hit in the Gereshk district of Helmand — the biggest opium poppy-growing region of the world, and the arena of the bloodiest battles in recent years between insurgents and international troops.
