Obama Suggests Ex-Pastor Is Contrite

WASHINGTON — Democrat Barack Obama seemed to suggest in an interview aired Friday that his former pastor has acknowledged that his controversial remarks were inappropriate and hurtful, although there are no public accounts of the minister having done so.

Obama discussed his relationship with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright on ABC's "The View," which was taped Thursday and aired Friday.

"Had the reverend not retired and had he not acknowledged that what he had said had deeply offended people and were inappropriate and mischaracterized what I believe is the greatness of this country, for all its flaws, then I wouldn't have felt comfortable staying there at the church," Obama said.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton said the senator's remarks did not imply that Wright has expressed misgivings about his statements.

"Sen. Obama was clearly saying that were Rev. Wright not retiring, he would need to be assured that the reverend understood why what he had said had deeply offended people and mischaracterized the greatness of this country," Burton said.

Wright, who officiated at Obama's wedding and his been his spiritual mentor for years, recently retired from the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. He became an issue in Obama's presidential bid in recent weeks when videos circulated of Wright condemning the U.S. government for allegedly racist and genocidal acts. In the videos, some several years old, Wright called on God to "damn America." He also said the government created the AIDS virus to destroy "people of color."

In a highly publicized speech last week, Obama sharply condemned Wright's remarks. But he did not leave the church or repudiate the minister himself, who he said was like a family member.

Wright has not spoken publicly since the campaign controversy flared up. He canceled plans this week to speak in Florida and Texas.

Obama said Wednesday he has spoken with Wright since making his speech on the controversy in Philadelphia.

Obama's rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, said this week she would have parted ways with a pastor who made the remarks that Wright had made.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

why is it that this video has been sent to every news network and no network will play the real true video.

Let\'s get the facts out about what Pastor Wright said, the media did not let anyone no that he was quoting a white man, so listen to the entire video and then voice your opinion, the media is the people who are racist and creating all this division. Please listen to the entire video and read who Pastor Wright was quoting. This entire video was sent to the news media/Fox News/Pat Buchanan/Chris Wallace/etc. but nobody is willing to show what Pastor Wright really said because now it would make Obama look real good. Make up your own mind don\'t let the media do it for you.

Now read about Ambassador Edward Peck…the man from whom Jeremiah Wright was quoting.

Jhn 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

GREENSBORO — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Wednesday sought to quell concerns over anti-American remarks by his former pastor, saying people are paying too much attention to a small number of "stupid" comments

Alas! The "devil" is in the "fine print".....Isn't it?

All one needs to do is go to the webiste for Rev Wright's and Obama church and judge for yourself if it has a racist / anti-American doctrine. Keep in mind Rev Wright was Obama's close friend, adviser, pastor and mentor for over 20 years. If you have such a close relationship with someone it stands to reason you know each other's beliefs forget about what each of you say in public. there is no way Obama was ignorant to Rev wright's anti-white and anti-American doctrines. As a potential President of this country Obama should have walked out when he heard anti-American and racist statements coming from the pastor but he chose to sit in his pew and nod his head in agreement as reported by Jim David, a free lance reporter, who attended service on July 22, 2007 when Rev Wright referred to the "United States of white America" along with other expletives. To date Obama has not put this issue to rest-how could he sit there all this years and listen to these incendiary sermons? In reading Obama's books it appears he agrees with many of these racist sermons. So will the real Obama step up and back out of the race.

If Italian-Americans get their "garlic noses" out of joint, we will probably say good-bye to Obama.
If Hillary,s Pastor said anything about "grit eating, Africians", the same would be true.

why can't we stop all this hatred on all sides, it does not do anyone any good. Racism has been around forever, so can we please try and make this country what it really need to be, oh yeah by the way I don't eat grits, never have, don't eat beans, don't eat meat, so just like you don't want to be label neither do I, so vent at the person who said those terrible words, what I really find amazing every race has always treated black people bad, and now that the shoe is on the other foot no one can handle it, I not saying I agree with all this race call but think about what you say when you put all black people in the same category and next time maybe when you want to say something bad about somebody because of race, now you know what that feels like. Just something to think about.
