Abberration Splits Dog's Left Leg in Two

advertisement

AVON LAKE — A developmental problem split Angel the dog's leg, making her look like a five-legged pet. Veterinarian Frank Krupka, with the Avon Lake Animal Clinic in suburban Cleveland, said he's never seen anything like it.

After examining X-rays, Krupka determined that a genetic aberration split Angel's front left leg in two, leaving her with three normal legs and two distinct parts of a fourth.

Krupka said the condition doesn't cause pain but gives her problems moving around. He said surgery is unlikely on the about-7-month-old dog. Krupka said any surgery would be cosmetic and not improve the animal's walk.

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Look at that face, obviously lots of love there. One of the wonderful things about dogs is their acceptance of what is. She's not in pain and she won't care about her leg as long as she has her family. I just love dogs.

I made a seed about a cat with a development problem here.

Thanks for seeding this, it's good for people to know that special pets can be special friends.

Very true, Wheel.

I once owned a blind dog. She adjusted fine.

I once owned a dog who lost one of her front legs to cancer. She woke up from surgery and hopped around just fine.

Once she saw a squirrel on the other side of the field, and I swear to God she grew her leg back temporarily so she could sprint after it.

Thank you for sharing that.

Dogs are tough, they never feel sorry for themselves.

Angel has a very pretty care face and sure show her owner a lot of love, the nice thing about a pet they love you for who you are and will do what ever it take to please you. I wish more people could learn to love and care for a animal, for they would have a much better life. You can talk all day long to your pet and they will just sit and listen, how many humans would do that. I am also glad she is in no pain and see no reason to remove the legs.
