SYDNEY — Cate Blanchett has given birth to her third son.

Blanchett, 38, delivered Ignatius Martin Upton in Sydney on Sunday, said Tim McKeough, media relations manager at the Sydney Theatre Company, where Blanchett and her playwright husband are co-artistic directors.

"All are well and very happy," McKeough said Monday.

The baby weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces, he said.

Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd offered his congratulations in a statement Monday, and said Blanchett would still co-chair an arts panel at a national summit Saturday.

The Australia 2020 summit will gather 1,000 leading Australians to propose ideas for the future direction of the country, with panels including health, climate change, economy and the arts.

Blanchett and husband Andrew Upton have two other sons: Dashiell, 6, and Roman, 3.

The Academy Award-winning actress next appears with Harrison Ford in the movie "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," due in theaters in May.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Well, Britney's been sober of late.

I'm thrilled for Cate and her husband, and proud that (unlike Sasha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher, neither of whom is an American) they chose to have their child in Cate's own country.

So many people get their noses out of joint when poor undocumented immigrants give birth here in "the U.S. of A.," yet when monied white celebrities from abroad do the same exact thing, there are no howls of execration.
G'day and good luck.

I for one am tired of these nonsense stories being thrown up as features with absolutely no mandate from 'the vine'. Why is this so-called alternative media outlet doing the same pandering that drives us away from mainstream media outlets? Why can't these featured stories only be the ones that worked there way up the vine, that are the most commented on or most voted? It seems to me that having this sort of featured article before it even receives a single vote goes against the most basic tenet of Newsvine.

I've started a poll on this to see if people agree with me. Please vote on it here if you're in agreement:

Er, I don't really have that many friends on Newsvine to pimp this poll out to, so if you feel strongly about it then please, by all means, spread the word. It needs votes to work.
