BANGKOK — A leader of anti-government protesters in Thailand says they will keep up their demonstrations until Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej steps down.

Chamlong Srimuang, a former Bangkok governor who helped lead similar protests 2006, says that the law is on their side and that the estimated 500 protesters will continue their protest against Samak, who they say is a puppet for former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Thaksin was ousted in a 2006 coup.

"We will stay on the site until Samak is out of office," Chamlong said. "We have right by law to stage a rally and protest against the government here."
