ANNECY — A French judicial official says preliminary manslaughter charges have been filed against a bus driver involved in an accident that killed seven children this week at a railroad crossing in the Alps.
The official says the bus driver is suspected of ignoring flashing red lights and a safety barrier that announced the arrival of a train. The official was speaking on condition of anonymity because the case is under way.
The bus was carrying 50 students, five adults and a driver when the train slammed into it near the town of Allinges. Twenty-four people were injured.
Preliminary charges for manslaughter and causing involuntary injuries have been filed against the unidentified 49-year-old driver, the judicial official said Wednesday.
