BERLIN — Police say three people were killed when a train struck their van in southern Germany.
Police in the Middle Franconia region say the train hit the van and dragged it for about 40 yards (meters) Monday. The collision occurred at a railroad crossing marked only by flashing lights.
Police say all three victims were Polish citizens working as painters in the region.
None of the 50 passengers in the train were injured but the driver is being treated for shock.
Police are still investigating Tuesday but they say the cause of the accident may never be known because the van driver was among those killed.
