— A low pressure system lingering over New England was expected to trigger scattered showers Thursday along the East Coast. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms were forecast for the South.
In the Northern Plains, low pressure over the region was expected to create a warm front that could produce some scattered showers and thunderstorms. Severe storms could develop in the Dakotas and move into the Great Lakes region.
The Pacific Northwest and California were expected to remain sunny and hot with some areas of haze.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms were forecast for the Southwest. Flooding was possible in some areas.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Wednesday ranged from a low of 32 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 127 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
