Obama visits Western Wall

JERUSALEM — Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama paid a predawn visit to the holiest place in Judaism on Thursday, bowing his head in prayer at the Western Wall.

Obama placed a small note inside a crevice in the ancient wall, a custom observed by many. He made his brief stop as he completed a trip to the Middle East in which he met with Israeli and Palestinian leaders as well as Jordan's King Abdullah II.

Orthodox men at the wall for morning prayers ran down the steps to get a look at Obama. Many reached out to shake his hand, although one booming voice called out, "Obama, Jerusalem is not for sale!"

Obama's visit lasted less than 15 minutes. He was flying to Europe immediately afterward for stops in Germany, France and England before returning home over the weekend.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

On February of this year, Obama stated "Iran poses no threat to Israel or US interests. Now, after a
trip to the Middle East, he states "Iran poses a great threat to Israel and US interests. Isn't this what Conservatives have been ridiculed for saying all along? I suggest all of the Liberals take a trip, not on tax-payers money though, to the Middle East so they can too see the truth about the situations before
making off-the-cuff ill-informed comments. Then their minds will change too. I guess this is the "change"
that Obama was talking about, huh?

Care to provide some links on your assertion of flip-flopping? I find that few conservatives on Newsvine do so - it would only lead to a rational discussion of the facts. It's easy to find them for McCain, of course, he changes his policies from day to day - when he's not reinventing the geography of the world. John McCain, the inventor of the Iraqi-Pakistani border.

October, 2007 Democratic Debate...Obama states that Iran, Venezuela, Cuba are small countries. "The pose no threat to the US". July, 2008, He states Iran poses a grave threat to Israel and US interests around the world. I guess that you could try "google-ing" it, as I have. This was you cannot say that "I got the CNN video from a "Right-Wing Conspiracy" website or anything.

Nice wordplay... "The (sic) pose no threat to the US". Versus... "He states Iran poses a grave threat to Israel and US interests around"...
i guess the distinction is lost on you...

(sic)? I guess the fact that he said they pose no threat and then, when he learns the truth, changes his stance and states that they now do, is lost on you...an attack on US interests, if you try to use your intellect, means an attack on US bases and facilities around the world. This, to most people who think, means a threat to US troops and that means a threat to the US.....But as a fellow Kool-Aid drinker, you probably took the term "interests" to mean "big oil" or "Bush/Cheaney" or some other "bumper-sticker" insert you tend to put between "...".

So, what? He made a statement, he went overseas and made a decision based on his own experiences and recognized that he was wrong. I find that reassuring! I guess he should have stuck by his statement even though it was wrong......right? I can respect a man who can recognize his mistakes and admit to them.

No, it's the fact that he didn't say "my bad", but is acting like that was his stance all along. Can't you see it? Really?

You see, his flip-flopping on the "no war" stance to "send the troops to Afghanistan instead" makes about as much sense to Conservatives as would it if McCain started saying "partial-birth abortion makes sense to me", just to get a couple liberal votes.
