Iraq reissues tender to drill 2 oil wells

Iraq's Oil Ministry is reissuing an invitation to drill two deep exploration oil wells in a pair of major oilfields in southern Iraq.

The state-run Oil Exploration Co. says the new deadline to receive proposals for drilling in the South Rumaila and Luhais oilfields near Basra will be Aug. 20.

The expected depth of the two wells is about 21,325 feet.

Tuesday's statement didn't mention the reason behind extending the previously set deadline of July 27.

The two fields are classified as super giant ones with estimated reserves no less than 5 billion barrels.
