TEGUCIGALPA — A Honduran migrant executed in Texas has been buried in his homeland.

Relatives buried 29-year-old Heliberto Chi in the coastal city of San Pedro Sula on Tuesday.

Sobbing mother Mirna Aceituno said, "My son rests in peace."

Chi was executed last Thursday for the murder of a former boss during a 2001 robbery at a Texas clothing store.

His lawyers said that Chi was not permitted to contact anyone from his government after he was arrested and that this violated an international treaty.

The U.S. Supreme Court rejected Chi's appeal without dissent.

The court earlier last week rejected a similar appeal from Mexican-born killer Jose Medellin, who was executed in Texas on Aug. 5.
