— Twenty-five things you might not know about Barack Obama:

1. His high school basketball nickname at Punahou School in Hawaii was "O'Bomber" and he favored a left-hand, double-pump shot.

2. He has two Grammy awards for recording his best-selling books, "Dreams from My Father" and "The Audacity of Hope."

3. His mother's name was Stanley Ann Dunham — her father, Stanley, wanted a boy.

4. His mother and father, Barack Obama Sr., met in a Russian language class at the University of Hawaii. She was 18. He was a scholarship student from Kenya.

5. His father, a goat herder as a child, was a member of the Luo tribe and came from a village in Kenya.

6. As a child in Indonesia he was introduced to snake meat and roasted grasshopper. His stepfather, Lolo Soetoro, presented him with a pet monkey, "Tata."

7. While living in Indonesia, his mother would wake him at 4 a.m. for three hours of English lessons before he went to school.

8. His maternal grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, was a "Rosie the Riveter" at a Boeing Co. plant in Wichita, Kan., during World War II.

9. While a student at Harvard Law School, he applied to appear in a black pride pinup calendar. He was rejected by an all-female committee.

10. He met his wife, Michelle, while she was his adviser one summer when he worked at a corporate law firm in Chicago. She also is a Harvard Law School graduate.

11. On his first date with his wife, they had ice cream at a Baskin-Robbins in Chicago. (One of his jobs as a teen was scooping ice cream at a Baskin-Robbins.)

12. His favorite movies include "Casablanca," "The Godfather" films, "Lawrence of Arabia" and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."

13. During his community organizing days, some residents in Chicago dubbed him "baby face" because of his youthful looks.

14. He considers his worst habit to be checking his Blackberry.

15. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, but he got a D in eighth-grade French.

16. His prized possession is a photograph of the cliffs of Oahu's South Shore, where his mother's ashes are scattered.

17. He is a good — but cautious — poker player who joined other lawmakers in Springfield, Ill., for weekly games. They dubbed their group "The Committee."

18. His music favorites include Bob Dylan, Sheryl Crow, Yo-Yo Ma, Bruce Springsteen, Jay-Z and jazz legends Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Charlie Parker. One of his favorite songs during the political season is Dylan's "Maggie's Farm."

19. He carries good luck charms, including a gambler's lucky chit, a tiny Madonna and child, and a bracelet belonging to a soldier deployed in Iraq.

20. He announced his campaign for the presidency at the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Ill., where Abraham Lincoln gave his famous "house divided" speech.

21. His office wall has a framed original program from the 1963 March on Washington where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his "I have a dream" speech. Obama will accept the Democratic presidential nomination on the 45th anniversary of that address.

22. He owns a set of red boxing gloves autographed by Muhammad Ali.

23. He keeps on his desk a carving of a wooden hand holding an egg, a Kenyan symbol of the fragility of life.

24. He has promised his daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, a dog this fall — win or lose

25. He doesn't like to shop.

Some other things you may not know about Obama is how he stole his first election!

As reported in Wall street Journal:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121918996082755013.html?mod=fpa_mostpop

Some Highlights:

Barack Obama won his first election in 1996 by throwing all of his opponents off the ballot on technicalities.
In real life, it did not matter what Mr. Obama said on the stump or whether South Side voters were impressed. What mattered was that, beginning on Jan. 2, 1996, his campaigners began challenging thousands of petition signatures the other candidates in the race had submitted in order to appear on the ballot. Thus would Mr. Obama win his state Senate seat, months before a single vote was cast.
In the end, Mr. Obama disqualified all four opponents -- including the incumbent state senator, Alice Palmer, and three minor candidates. Ms. Palmer, a former ally of Mr. Obama, had gathered 1,580 signatures, more than twice the 757 required to appear on the ballot. A minor, perennial candidate had gathered 1,899 signatures, suggesting the Obama team invested much time working even against him.
The act of throwing an incumbent off the ballot in such a fashion does not fit neatly into the narrative of a public-spirited reformer who seeks to make people less cynical about politics.

A man of great morals Barack Obama!

Let me get this straight, you're hating on the man for insuring all of his opponents follow the rules? Sounds like the kind of guy I want for President.

C'mon.....everybody knows that following any rules, or being held accountable for anything is CLEARLY not the way things should be done in politics.

Yeah. What a killer instinct this guy had. You'd think he blackmailed them with nude photos or something.

Are you going to spam that article on every seed about Obama, NMr08? Is so, please don't. It's unbecoming, and just a wee hypocritical.

7. While living in Indonesia, his mother would wake him at 4 a.m. for three hours of English lessons before he went to school.

That should have been his comeback tactic for Clinton's 3 a.m. phone call commercial.

12. His favorite movies include "Casablanca," "The Godfather" films, "Lawrence of Arabia" and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."

Great movies.

18. His music favorites include Bob Dylan, Sheryl Crow, Yo-Yo Ma, Bruce Springsteen, Jay-Z and jazz legends Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Charlie Parker. One of his favorite songs during the political season is Dylan's "Maggie's Farm."

Great music (except Sheryl Crow).

22. He owns a set of red boxing gloves autographed by Muhammad Ali.

Lucky son-of-*****!

This list is completely irrelevant, but it just gave me more reasons I support Obama.

McCain flip flops far far more then Obama. I don't know how they brainwashed people into thinking otherwise but I supposed most voters don't pay that close attention to the issues.

niafabo,
so you disagree on the one point? You have that right! You must agree on the rest, by way of no comment. BO is sophomoric and cannot be trusted at the helm of our country. I think he probably would make a good neighbor and I have nothing against him personally.

The other ones are used so often by McCain supporters that I've argued them to the point that I just don't care to discuss them any more.

McCain is a liar, a cheater, a major flip flopper, he wants to go to iran and russia when we barely have enough troops to get by as it is and disban the UN. Why anyone would choose him over a guy who has an actual plan for the country that doesn't involve a potential nuclear holocaust is beyond me.

And BSJ they do have one it's right below this one on top seeds.

#25. He has no real experience.
Just because McCain is in his 70's doesn't mean he IS READY. He has served 30 years in Congress. Did he try to prevent, stop or fixed the problems that we are facing now? Did he has the vision?

#26. He stands for big government.
What are you trying to say?. What about McCain?

#27. He Flip-flops on everything.
On everything. What is E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G-? He said no drilling because that's not going to reduce oil prices NOW, when we need it. Now he says drilling can be a part of the plan but no the ONLY plan like McCain says. and of course, McCain changed his mind too so why are you bringing this up?

#28. He says he is different, but shows himself to be all politician, no different at all.
All of them are politicians!! what's your point? He is a different kind, that's what he says.

I'm not sure why people place so much emphasis on this when all it does is qualify him for the job based on past elections. Neither Reagan nor Bush had any experience either, but the country saw fit to elect them.

Oh, that's right, experience only matters if you're a Democrat. Damn, I forgot all about the all-encompassing double standards!

    Fernanda-439710,
Obama stands for the Nanny type government. When the government has to have control over everything. Big brother micromanaging everything. I have a very difficult time trying to think of anything that our government does that is successful and efficient. We need to downsize our government and give the country back to the people.

That's funny, since American voters seem to be saying something different:
Oil, Pharmaceutical, Health Insurance, Managed Care, Utilities and Tobacco Top the List of Industries That Many People Think Need More Regulation
A majority of U.S. adults think that the oil industry (54%) should be more strongly regulated, followed by pharmaceuticals (48%), health insurance (48%), managed care (41%), electric and gas utilities (38%) and tobacco (38%). Less than 10 percent of all adults believe that statements made by companies in these industries are "generally honest and trustworthy." Tobacco (2%), oil (3%), managed care (4%), health insurance (7%), and pharmaceuticals (7%) are the industries least trusted.

Democratic platform writers hear pension, job woes
Americans want their government to regulate health insurance companies, the home mortgage business, energy issues, etc. You name it - they want it - big government style. So you might want to hitch a ride on out of this nation because "nanny government" is the general need with American voters.

These people are misinformed and ignorant of the historical weaknesses of this kind of government. It is really socialism and has never delivered what it has promised over the long haul. From Roosevelt on we have been trained to think that Uncle Sam should always come through and bail us out. What happens is the government gets involved and spend our tax dollars like water and we get no real bang for the buck. Then we throw good money after bad. I am sick and tired of the waste! I don't need the government to bail me out. I need to learn from my mistakes and have a family to help me through tough times.

From what I can tell, I said that you know very little of Socialism. If you contend that our nation is anywhere near veering off into that direction, I stand by that statement. If you feel that was a swipe at your overall intelligence, I apologize. If you would like to speak to someone who has lived under Socialist rule, I can easily ask that my Polish friend Zoey to post here about the incredible differences. You're simply pushing the talking point that the Obama camp/ Dem party are Socialists. It's so silly.

Clo you were the first one on insulting the rest of the country (misinformed and ignorant ...) The old, make yourself look good by making the other look bad. Childish! : That's what McCain does every time he opens his mouth.

Right now and for decades people would live their entire lives on housing, food stamps and TANF and they pass this habit to their kids ... that is the government being big brother.
I don't think the government has to have control over everything. I think they can give them the tools so they can work their butts off to get a better future. Help the people who really need it (disable, etc.) create jobs so the rest of them can have a better future for themselves. That is the only way we can fight poverty.

But what can we do if the insurance companies can do whatever they want and nobody can put a stop to them?? You need your government.

What can we do if oil companies are filthy rich (with your money and mine) speculating on oil prices and nobody can put a stop to them? You need your government.

It is not socialism, and I can talk about it. I lived in a country with a general as a 'presidente de facto'. You don't know anything about socialism until you live under one. Books can't tell you about the feeling, the fear.

Forget about wars (I don't think that is what God wants!!!) exhaust every possible way through diplomacy and use war as a last resort. That's what Obama's plan is and I agree with him. If he has to talk personally with our enemy to end war, wouldn't you agree?

Bring the money you spend every week in Iraq and put it to work in schools, science. pay China every single dime. How can that be possible?. We are in debt with China! Is like you have money to buy some liquor every weekend but you can't buy milk for your baby boy!!!

let them talk, focus on issues, make a good decision. We are responsible for the future of our Country. We decide if we get out of the hole or if we go deeper. Choose wisely.

Well we are sorry, but the dog was defeated by Obama. What you have to love is the fact that you keen Mensa rejects can always make accusations, but you never back it up with anything credible. Why is that? I mean we do appreciate the fact that like moths to a flame, you actually attract someone to your cause who believe it or not, actually seems slower than yourself...easily identified by a (chortle or maniac laughter) and a similar comment to this "yuk, yuk, yuk, good one Billy Joe Ray Bob! yuk, yuk yuk, yuk!"
