Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland has ordered a special election Nov. 18 to replace the late U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones.
If more than one candidate from each party files for the seat, a primary election will be held Oct. 14.
The winner of the special election will finish out Tubbs Jones' term through December. The winner of the Nov. 4 general election will serve the 11th district, which includes Cleveland and several eastern suburbs, beginning in January.
Strickland previously said he would prefer not to hold a special election, which will cost Ohio taxpayers between $4 million and $5.5 million.
Tubbs Jones died Aug. 20 after suffering a brain hemorrhage. The 58-year-old was the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress.
