The National Hurricane Center says a new tropical depression has formed far out in the Atlantic.
The depression formed early Tuesday and has maximum sustained winds near 35 mph with higher gusts. But the depression is forecast to strengthen and will likely become a tropical storm later in the day.
The hurricane center says the depression is centered about 170 miles south-southeast of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands off the coast of Africa.
