— Heavy rain and thunderstorms were forecast Sunday for northern New England as Tropical Storm Hanna heads toward Newfoundland and out into the Atlantic Ocean.

Mostly sunny skies were forecast for the East Coast.

A broad trough of low pressure was expected to slide into the Northern Plains and Great Lakes region and produce areas of rain showers.

Clear skies were forecast for most of the Southwest and West Coast. A trough of low pressure was expected to push into the West Coast and bring cooler temperatures.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Saturday ranged from a low of 28 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 118 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
