ANCHORAGE — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told ministry students at her former church that the United States sent troops to fight in the Iraq war on a "task that is from God."

In an address last June, the Republican vice presidential candidate also urged ministry students to pray for a plan to build a $30 billion natural gas pipeline in the state, calling it "God's will."

Palin asked the students to pray for the troops in Iraq, and noted that her eldest son, Track, was expected to be deployed there.

"Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God," she said. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God's plan."

A video of the speech was posted at the Wasilla Assembly of God's Web site before finding its way on to other sites on the Internet.

Palin told graduating students of the church's School of Ministry, "What I need to do is strike a deal with you guys." As they preached the love of Jesus throughout Alaska, she said, she'd work to implement God's will from the governor's office, including creating jobs by building a pipeline to bring North Slope natural gas to North American markets.

"God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that," she said.

"I can do my job there in developing our natural resources and doing things like getting the roads paved and making sure our troopers have their cop cars and their uniforms and their guns, and making sure our public schools are funded," she added. "But really all of that stuff doesn't do any good if the people of Alaska's heart isn't right with God."

Palin attended the evangelical church from the time she was a teenager until 2002, the church said in a statement posted on its Web site. She has continued to attend special conferences and meetings there. Religious conservatives have welcomed her selection as John McCain's running mate.

The Assemblies of God, which claims nearly 3 million members, is one of the biggest Pentecostal groups in the U.S. Unlike most other Christians — including most evangelicals — Pentecostals believe in "baptism in the Holy Spirit." That can manifest itself through speaking in tongues, modern-day prophesy and faith healing. The Assemblies of God teaches that spirit baptism must be accompanied by speaking in tongues. Still, some churchgoers never have the experience.

Rob Boston, a spokesman for Americans United for Separation of Church and State, lamented Palin's comments.

"I miss the days when pastors delivered sermons and politicians delivered political speeches," he said. "The United States is increasingly diverse religiously. The job of a president is to unify all those different people and bring them together around policy goals, not to act as a kind of national pastor and bring people to God."

The section of the church's Web site where videos of past sermons were posted was shut down Wednesday, and a message was posted saying that the site "was never intended to handle the traffic it has received in the last few days."

This is exactly why someone like this cannot hold the office of vice-presidency, or the presidency. We've had 8 years of this kind of mindset. It's to move on. We cannot afford the hair-trigger mindset of McCain and the ideology of this women. Not in these times; no how.

"A TASK THAT IS FROM GOD"

The following article was written by me on Sept. 11, 2007. It refers to the Iraq War and the surge, and the real reasons the Republicans want to continue and expand the war.

Now it is becoming very clear why McCain wants Palin. This dangerous zealot really wants a Religious Crusade. Not only does McCain want a war with Iran and possibly Russia, his crime partner wants a Religious War with ALL Muslims. I guess the real question is, do you want WW III. I refuse to believe where these Republicans want to take us, this can't be real, this must be a bad dream, A NIGHTMARE.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

What are the REAL reasons G. Bush & friends want the US to "stay the course".

No. 1 - He actually thinks he is on a Crusade from God. He is the Christian Saviour who will save the world from the Muslims.

No. 2 - His friends & cohorts are making tons of money. This is a payback for their financial support of his elections. Why be a millionaire, when you can be a billionaire. The financial rape of the Iraq War has made many people rich.

No. 3 - He wants to be remembered as a Hero by history. He knows in American history to be remembered you must be president during a war. Anyone remember Presidents Harrison or Garfield or the others who served during peacetime, probably not.

No. 4 - If the Iraqi people are in a civil war, they'll be busy and leave us alone. We don't want them to attack us again, OOPs, that argument won't work anymore.

No. 5 - Probably one of the biggest reasons, if the Iraqis do go to a civil war it gives the US a reason to keep US military bases in Iraq and the Middle East forever. Got to protect that oil from those pesky Arabs. This situation gives the US a chance to make certain Middle East countries our colonies. Can you see where this goes.

There are many reasons that this war is being continued, none of which help the Iraqis or World Peace. This is all part of the BIG LIE coming out of Washington, D.C.

A few of the lies, some facts, and comparisons to the Vietnam War.

- At the end of World War II, France tried to get back it's colonies mostly in Africa & Asia. Among them was Indochina (Vietnam, Cambodia & Laos) but France was weakened by WWII and in 1954 quit the fight and went home. US president Dwight Eisenhower felt this was a good opportunity to expand their global influence and STOP the Communist expansion in Asia. This was called the 'Domino Theory', meaning if Indochina fell to the Reds, so too would Thailand, Burma, India, Japan, etc.

He sent in the troops, 7,000 "advisors" to start, who would train the Vietnamese to fight the Red Menace. Vietnam' government was weak and extremely corrupt, with very little support from the people. At this time in American history, the US supported any government that was anti-communist. This is a huge reason America is still hated around the globe.

The US supported among others, Fernando Marcos in the Philippines, a world class dictator and one of the biggest thieves in history. The Shah in Iran, which is why America is so hated in present day Iran. And a succession of corrupt governments in South Vietnam.

By supporting the South Vietnamese government the 'plan' was doomed from the start. The people would not support their government and it's corruption. This is why so many of them fought alongside the communist Viet Cong and North Vietnam. With the US supporting their hated government the US became the enemy, plus the Vietnamese wanted to end years of foreign domination and rule themselves. US policy was clouded by South Vietnam being anti-communist, so we MUST support them, no matter what the cost, or how bad their leaders are.

Recently, George Bush said if we didn't quit Vietnam we would have won, but the truth is, supporting the bad guys, doesn't work for long. The people won't support it. Meanwhile, because of the failed policy, casualties, war profiteering, atrocities, the draft, and no way to win, etc. Americans had had enough, and demanded an end to the war.

While many things about Iraq and Vietnam were similar, some are different. But many of the really bad things are the same. Among them are the conduct of the US military. Namely the poor conduct of the top officers. Poor officers let the average soldier abuse life of people and animals. Poor officers let soldiers get bored, and get in trouble, hence the atrocities. Every time someone kills innocents, the enemy gains converts. The Americans in Iraq are hated by many people, not all, but too many. Why do officers want to continue the war, they are not usually out there in combat thus little danger, and that is the fastest way to get promoted, peacetime armies don't get promotions. This is why they support George Bush, the longer the war continues, the more chances for promotions.

In 1968 at the My Lai massacre in South Vietnam the 'ring leader' (Lt. William Calley) of the more than 500 dead, mostly women and children was finally sentenced to 4 1/2 months in prison, quite a punishment for this war crime. He originally was sentenced to life in prison, but this was commuted to time served by US President Richard 'tricky dick' Nixon. Nixon felt that keeping this in the newspapers would hurt the war effort. He was the only one ever punished.

Now soldiers know they pretty much have a free reign to do whatever or kill whoever or whatever they want. No wonder they have no respect for life, that is the way they are trained. War crimes in Iraq, bring similar punishments, Nice policy.

US government contractors also called mercenaries CAN'T be charged with any crimes or war crimes thanks to George Bush' edict. Not even can the Iraqis charge these war criminals. Another nice policy.

- The Iraqi soldiers aren't trained or ready yet. We train US soldiers in months, and Officers in less than a year. So why aren't the Iraqis ready to share the fighting - simple. Why fight when the US soldiers are doing the work. Why fight other Iraqis who are not considered enemies. Why fight for a government they don't trust. Sounds alot like Vietnam. Why did we lose the war in Vietnam, because the people didn't want the corrupt government that the US supported.

John McCain - All- American F R A U D.

McCain has been trying to ride the 'war hero' routine for years. He thought if he stayed in the Hanoi Hilton longer than anyone else he would be welcomed back to America with a ticker tape parade. But America was tired about Vietnam and didn't feel he was a hero. He has been frustrated ever since. He thought America owed him for being a POW.

Now the ultimate hypocrisy, after saying "he would rather lose the election than lose the war", he has proven he would rather win the election than do what is correct for the country. He has chosen a completely un-qualified person to be the V.P. He chose her, not because of her qualifications, but because he thinks she will bring the 'women' vote. She has less experience than any other candidate in American history. Would you fell safe with her as the Prez, if McBush dies? This buffoon has shown his true colors, remember this is his first decision as a possible president.

But yet he claims Obama is inexperienced, what a sicko. Retire McBush to the farm, he is done.

Joe Lieberman is no Democrat, he is one of the biggest boosters of John McCain. Lieberman and McCain want to start a war with Iran or Russia, but with American troops, not Israelis.

If Israel wants war with someone, fight with your own troops, not Americans.

I sincerely wonder if the pick for V.P. was a Karl Rove trick. Maybe the trick was to have a nobody as the V.P. candidate as a ruse, and then resign after the convention so they could be replaced at the last minute by Joe Lieberman (R-Israel).

I think I'm gonna throw up. I'm listening to her speech right now and along with this article, I think I'm going to be physically ill. Killing innocent men, women, and children in Iraq; when we had no business being there and saying that was God's will. I thought God preached love thy neighbor and turn the other cheek. Not blame somebody else and then kill 'em all. Craziness!

Holy Roller! Sarah Palin has (in spades!) the common ability to see the world for the incredibly simple, black-and-white place it is. We'll all just be better off when we can finally acknowledge that there are no shades of gray.

Seriously, though: if Obama doesn't win this election, I'm moving to Canada.

I'm a Christian, but there is absolutely no reason to bring God into the terrible politics that is the evangelical right. To use God as a reason for war is sacrilegious in itself. God is love. Not war.

It is not whether Sarah Palin is a good mom, or not. It is about the fact that she can't keep her own family in order while preaching about good moral values. Do as I say, not as I do.

But really it is not even about her, it is about the fact that John McCain picked someone only to placate the Republican Right and trying to get the Hillary PUMA's to vote for him. This man is a complete FRAUD.

I would not want a Democrat in there either with such a complete lack of experience. The office of the US President is the most powerful job on the planet. That person has the power to drop the bomb, on anyone, for any reason.

This woman is the MOST unqualified candidate of either party in American history. With McCain' health issues and age, do you really want a president with such an lack of experience.

The coming election is not a joke, all life on planet Earth is at stake, would you trust it to a person with zero foreign or domestic policy experience. Being on the town council of Wasilla, or governor or a small state just doesn't cut it.

As to McBush, he is a F R A U D. He said he would rather lose an election, than lose the war, but we can see the truth, he would rather win an election than do what is best for America.

Don't be so blind to the hypocrisy..at least she has some experience at running a Government..the Dems headliner Obama has none! That's what Joe's for, to bring an air of experience to Obama's culture personality. Look past his pretty smile and smooth talk to see the real man..I have to look no farther than his stand with Planned Parenthood..He's a black man who stand with those who are targeting the black community for abortion..talk about a FRAUD!

Just checked out this web sight. I personally did not find the claims credible. Portraying Planned Parenthood as an enemy of minorities is just another spin to promote pro-life. There was no evidence in the "Mike Wallace interview of Planned Parent founder" of her motives being aimed at minorities. She worked world wide to avail birth control for woman who wanted to plan their families.

Planned Parenthood Clinics may appear to be located more often in minority areas, but this web sight did not show evidence. Besides, even if that were true, it merely proves that people like you fight against choice everywhere but in minority communities.

When abortion was legalized, the Christian Right never complained, actually no one on the Right complained, they figured it was going to stop Blacks and other minorities from producing so many babies. After about 5 years they freaked, they found out it was really Whites who were getting abortions. Then they wanted it outlawed, to protect the White race. Truthfully, people of color have never been getting abortions in large numbers.

I sincerely hope I am not offending any people of color including white, just trying to set the record straight about the 70's and the hypocracy of the Anti-abortion movement.

Truth is blinding to those who don't want to see it..Spin :) just because you "do not find the claims credible" doesn't make it so.

The number of abortions in America have been put at 50 Million since 1973, the first year of Roe. The magnitude of the killing is staggering. Fifty million represents a population greater than any state, greater than California (36 million), greater than the next two largest states—Texas and New York—combined (23 million and 19 million, respectively). In fact, if you combined the entire populations of all of the 25 states with the fewest people, it still would not equal 50 million.

10 Million of those abortions at the expense of Americas minority black population.

?? "choice everywhere but in minority communities" ?? I stand for the unborn no matter.

I'm don't mean this in a bad or mean way, but if the population, health care system, schools, etc are such a big concern of yours..do something about it..jump off a cliff, call Jack Kevorkian , play in traffic or think of something yourself..you can do it I'm sure, if you just put your mind too it :) all in good humor my friend, you set yourself up :)

It is kind of funny that these RICH Christians prayer and believe in God when in the Bible, God's word, says, " It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle then it is for the rich to get into Heaven"

The section of the church's Web site where videos of past sermons were posted was shut down Wednesday, and a message was posted saying that the site "was never intended to handle the traffic it has received in the last few days."

Can't fault the church for that. They aren't required to foot bandwidth bills just because someone who spoke there once is suddenly in the national spotlight.

It's on the internet, which means they don't need to host it anymore.

This is why separation of church and state is so important. Wars fought for religion.......this is some scary a$$ sh**. Unfortunatly, this isnt surprising. This is the same group of people who brought you the Project for a New American Century. They also brought you a president who justifies his wars from voices in his head that he calls "God".

For those of you who are diseased with ignorance, and incapable of seeing through the hatred and fear of those who cry Separation of Church.

                  Our Constitution on religion...

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

There's a cure and the American voter is the prescription. On November 4th the public must turn out in high enough numbers to overwhelm the Republican attempts to fix the vote in key swing states and send the cabal packing.

Bill Veeck once used a 3 foot midget, Eddie Geadel, to get a runner onto first base in a game against the Tigers for the St Louis Browns baseball team. I really see this VP selection as a "gimmick" the same as Eddie was used. The David and Goliath story, the "don't look too closely and enjoy the fun", and the cheap trick to get publicity, smacks of the usual Republican "dumbing down" of our politics. We need to stop looking at this politician as anything else but a right wing, christian conservative, nut job. The media has to stop looking at the midget and start looking at the political implications of her stance. Her kids problems, her lack of experience, and her gender can be put aside. She is a secessionist, big oil buddy, and her God sent the US to attack the Iraqis. She should be one screaming the most about the melting ice around her state. Get past this fru-fru and start asking the real questions about how to get this country rockin' again.

Here in Chicago we had a huge snowstorm. Shortly thereafter we had a mayoral candidate, who actually asked us to pray to God to stop the snow. Really. Needless to say he was trampled to death and never heard from again. We can only hope for the same in this Presidential race. And how did someone from some little spit of a mud puddle acting as a mayor of 5000 people actually be compared to Obama? And 18 months as Governor of a state of less than 5 million? Shame on you Republicans, trying to win the Hillary voters. We are not stupid. And we will vote for the most qualified team which is Obama\Biden.

At least praying for a big storm to end is non-partisan.

By the way, it will take 300 years for Alaska to reach a population of 5 million. There are about 700,000 people there now, and that counts the tourists.

I grew up in the 3rd world. I know the Jesus types very well. Very oppressive group of people who always think God is in their side and they cannot be questioned because they are doing God's work. They have no clue about what Jesus stood for. They are the same people if they were living during the time of Jesus they would have ridiculed and called him just a "community organizer" as Jesus was. He stood for the poor, for down, for prostitutes, etc - he was a liberal who cared deeply about people. He was also conceived out of wedlock, and was preaching to the masses as an early age - sound familiar?

These people who claim that God is in their side, are not even religious but religion is convenient for them to keep masses in line. As someone once said, " Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful." Religion has been a very useful tool by rulers from the middle east to america!

                              Well said.

I'm trying to remember which philosopher said "there will be no peace on earth until the last King is strangled with the entrails of the last preist"

It was probably due from this kind of nonsense where "god" is used to give credibility to an evil or selfish idea.

Well... I guess if you look at it from a "God actually existing or being the motivation behind a choice is loopy" angle, then can we poke fun at the Muslims fighting 'for' Allah? I mean, seriously...

I think also, that there is a big difference between being in a war and seeing it as part of God's plan, and starting a war becuase you believe God wanted you to. Palin's stance seems that of a fatalist, which isn't terribly good, but it's better than doing it and saying "God told me to do it".

Same with the Pipeline. She said that there should be a prayer to start it. If the pipeline plan wasn't approved, then she'd think that it wasn't God's plan and probably let it go. Again, fatalist.

Palin said these things as Governor, and didn't demand or force people to make a political choice in a ballot 'for God'. It is a bit damning in light of her nomination and given the socio-political climate about God and religion in general, but... I think that what she projects in the future is more important than what she said to a group of kids. It just feels like right now the liberal aspects of hte media are taking pot @!$%#s and seeing what sticks, revving up the democrats and doing whatever they can to drum up readership. Same thing happened with Obama. Personally, I wouldn't mind a bit of equality and seeing what the media has to pull up on Biden.

I wouldn't mind that either, to be honest.

Though the loudest aspects of our media system spout attention-getting, inflammatory, often skewed garbage, the aspects of our media system that maintain the ideals of journalistic integrity, will continue to do their jobs and expose truths. It's their job, and I'm grateful for them.

Though, maybe the reason they haven't pulled up anything negative on Biden is because their isn't anything negative on Biden. ;)

                                  One can hope, anyway.

Palin, the darling of the wacked out right, ha ha. Now her daughter is pregnant out of wedlock, the Christians must be considering suicide after McCain' choice. I wonder if they'll try to impeach her, before the election.

This is better than any TV program.

What is next, maybe an affair between McCain and Palin, or McCain and the daughter, oh oh I know, McCain and Palin' husband. Yep that is it,

Stay tuned, this can only get more bizarre, IDK maybe the White House can get TV ratings.

Well, negative in this sense would be subjective. $75M for abstinence only education, son and brother being investigated for fraud, voting up the ability for CC companies to increase their interest rate ceiling... that can be kind of negative.

                                  @White Bear

Aside from your asinine comment that has little to no value, isn't it the Democrats and Liberals who advocate young girls getting abortions without parental consent or notification, because it is the woman who is having the baby that has the choice and THEIR privacy needs protecting? If I recall, that is actually a law, right? So with that, it seems odd to me that all of these same people are going around berating Bristol for being pregnant out of wedlock (not uncommon), and Sarah for allegedly failing as a mother for not doing (controlling) what the Dems legislated a way around. Call me crazy, but it seems slightly (and by 'slightly' I mean extremely) hypocritical...

The kind of sex ed someone gets has no bearing on getting pregnant. A-only and Explicit sex ed both teach that penises in vaginas usually create babies, but that's just my tested theory. We can ask my son...

In closing, do you have a solid opinion to back 90% of your statements, statements like:

This has just got to be a joke, this dynamic duo of McCain / Palin can't be real, it is just too bizarre

or do you just parrot political pundits on the internets, chiming in on sophomoric giggles like a school girl reading those lunch room 'like letters' conferring with friends to check 'yes' or 'no? Seriously.

Gov. Palin DID NOT say that the war is a task from God. That is not even a reasonable interpretation of what she said.

In fact, she said they should pray "that there is a plan and that it is God's plan". That is a far cry from giving God's stamp of approval to the war.

                                        Your desperation is showing.

Seemingly her god is ok with flasifying evidence and other perpetuating other lies in order to justify invading and attacking an innocent peolple. What a god!

Not one of you has been able to produce a quote where Sarah Palin said that the Iraq War was a task from God. That, of course, is because she did not say it.

Susan is completely right, Palin never said "The Iraq War is a task from God".

"Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God," she said.

She wasn't referring to the Iraq occupation though, she's obviously referring to Disney World.

Our national leaders are sending our troops out [she means, to Disney World], on a task from God.

What a gal [I mean, person]!

Did you read the article, Susan?

"Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God," she said. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God's plan."

That's from the article above, Susan, where Palin is quoted as having said that.
