Methodist defense plays strong to defeat Campbell

FAYETTEVILLE — Mario Miralles kicked four field goal and the Methodist defense scored three touchdowns to beat Campbell 32-21 on Saturday.

Miralles made his field goals from 43, 22, 27 and 43 yards away to give the Monarchs (1-0 ) a 12-0 lead by the third quarter. Danny Burack recovered a fumble in the end zone for a score after Campbell's botched snap, then Antonio Bartee returned an interception 39 yards for a touchdown to put Methodist ahead 25-0 in the third.

McGuire ran for 84 yards on 25 carries, including a 15-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for the Monarchs (0-2).

Matt Vollono, who completed 21-of-39 passes, threw for 252 yards and one touchdown for the Panthers. Chis Smith had a 2-yard touchdown in the third and Reshaun Brown added a 1-yard rushing score in the final quarter.
