Davidson scored first on Chad Barnes' 1-yard touchdown run and a 47-yard field goal that gave the Wildcats (0-1) a 9-0 lead midway through the second quarter.
But Sutphen, who threw for a team-leading 75 yards on 10-of-12 passing, tossed a 3-yard score to Keith Gore to make it 9-7 going into halftime.
