Dollar down, gold up in European morning trading

The U.S. dollar was lower against most other currencies in European trading Monday morning. Gold rose.

The euro traded at US$1.4246, up from US$1.4215 late Friday in New York.

Other dollar rates:

_105.11 Japanese yen, down from 107.76

_1.1161 Swiss francs, down from 1.1319

_1.0690 Canadian dollars, up from 1.0606

The British pound was quoted at US$1.7945, up from US$1.7937.

Gold traded in London at US$779.25 per troy ounce, up from US$750.25 late Friday.
