DOVER — Belittling John McCain as a relic of the disco age, Democrat Barack Obama pushed his campaign Friday to a new level of counter-punching "on the issues that matter" and directed his running mate to be tougher on their Republican opponents.
The changes come as national polls find McCain and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, pulling ahead of Obama and Joe Biden, prompting some jittery Democrats to implore them to fight back harder, and Obama's camp to pledge "speed and ferocity" in that effort.
"You know, I'm not going to be making up lies about John McCain," Obama told undecided voters in Dover. But he dipped into history, citing the oft-repeated phrase: "If you don't stop lying about me, I'm going to have to start telling the truth about you."
"That's what we're going to do," Obama said.
Dover resident Glenn Grasso asked Obama, "when and how are you going to start fighting back against attack ads and the smear campaigns?"
"Our ads have been pretty tough," Obama replied. "I'm going to respond with the truth."
Obama has called Palin a "phenomenon" and acknowledged she's given her ticket a boost. But his aides say McCain is vulnerable to new criticisms because he has stretched the truth in recent comments and ads, and because Palin was shaky on foreign policy in an ABC News interview.
"Today is the first day of the rest of the campaign," Obama campaign manager David Plouffe said in a statement Friday. "We will respond with speed and ferocity to John McCain's attacks and we will take the fight to him, but we will do it on the big issues that matter to the American people."
Plouffe said Biden "will be integral to that effort, both in pushing back on the lies that we'll continue to see from our opponents, and in keeping the debate focused on delivering for everyday Americans."
Vice presidential candidates often play the role of attacker. But many Democrats feel their party's last two nominees for that job, John Edwards and Joe Lieberman, were too passive.
The newest Obama TV ad gets personal and makes a none-too-subtle dig at McCain's age. It shows McCain at a hearing in the early 1980s, wearing giant glasses and an out-of-style suit. Other images include a disco ball, clunky phone, outdated computer and Rubik's Cube. "Things have changed in the last 26 years," the announcer says, "but McCain hasn't."
"He admits he still doesn't know how to use a computer, can't send an e-mail, still doesn't understand the economy, and favors $200 billion in new tax cuts for corporations, but almost nothing for the middle class," the commercial says. McCain has said he relies on his wife and staff to work the computer for him and that he doesn't use e-mail.
The non-partisan Tax Policy Center says McCain's proposed corporate tax cuts would total about $231 billion over four years. It says McCain's proposals for individual tax rates "would primarily benefit those with very high incomes." It says many fewer households "at the bottom of the income distribution would get tax cuts, and those tax cuts would be small as a share of after-tax income."
The Obama ad closes with a photo of McCain standing with President Bush. "After one president who was out of touch," the announcer says, "we just can't afford more of the same."
Another new Obama ad repeats criticisms of McCain for having current and former prominent lobbyists on his campaign staff. A third new ad is more positive, highlighting Obama's change message and saying he will provide better health care and tax breaks.
Republican National Committee spokesman Alex Conant said Obama is "trying to destroy" McCain and Palin with personal attacks.
McCain, meanwhile, released a new ad saying Obama has been "disrespectful" in his treatment of Palin, who seems to be making inroads among female voters in several states.
Democrats said Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who narrowly lost the nomination to Obama, will campaign for him at two stops Sunday in Ohio.
In Dover on Friday, Obama rebutted McCain's claims that he would raise taxes on working-class families. "I pledge that under my plan, no one making less than $250,000 a year will see any type of tax increase," he said. "Not income tax, not capital gains taxes, not any kind of tax."
He also criticized McCain for recently saying the economy is making progress under Bush. "We can't afford four more years of what George Bush and John McCain consider progress," Obama said.
When some in the audience shouted that Republicans have lied about him, Obama said, "Lies, that's the word I was looking for."
"We have been hitting back hard, but we're hitting back on the issues that matter to families," he said.
Some independent analysts say McCain's flurry of claims and criticisms this week seemed to catch Obama off guard.
Kathleen Hall Jamieson, a University of Pennsylvania authority on political communications, said Obama erred by focusing on one dubious McCain assertion_that Obama had indirectly insulted Palin by using a phrase about putting lipstick on a pig — while the Republicans hit him with a more damaging claim misrepresenting his position on sex education for kindergartners.
"When someone says you want to teach kids about sex, you should counterattack immediately, and they didn't," Jamieson said. "They said they were outraged, but the outrage was lost among the outrage about lipstick. The Obama campaign didn't pivot fast enough when that ad went up."
Friday's message from the Obama camp seemed to be: Don't worry, we're firing on all cylinders from now on.

Babington reported from Washington.
I really hope this doesn't get much uglier.
That will be near impossible. The media has demonstrated an ineptness validating the messages on either side. There are no Cronkites or Russerts to give us the real scoop. Only 3-6% undecided; I think most people have made their minds up already.
I hope the remaining undecideds are the ones who want to see the sarcastic wars.
It needs to get 'ugly' on the issues that matter to the American people. Because the reality is ugly for most American people. Jobs. Energy. Education. The Economy. We're suffering here.
Republicans aren't talking about that - because they FAIL at that.
The Media isn't talking about that - because they're way too corporate, and way too entranced with the ratings they're getting with all the latest titter-tatter about McBarbie.
Whatever it takes to punch through the haze that the American people are in, and the media creates, to get people thinking, "Are we better off than we were 8 years ago? Where is our country headed?" - that's what Obama's going to have to do.
oh i think by the end of october this will give a whole new meaning to ugly.
got lipstick? dam that would be good on a t-shirt huh.
i think this election will bring a whole new dimesion to lawsuits. which will keep bush in the white house another 6 months to a year before the supreme court is done.
Can't we just vote tomorrow and spare ourselves all the worthless BS.
I think every ones mind is already made up
Belittling John McCain as a relic of the disco age,
Now this is scary. Disco came out in the middle seventies. McCain's heyday was before the birth of rock 'n' roll. McCain was past being a teenager before Elvis arrived on the scene--two decades before disco.
I'm not sure what's worse: that Obama is so young that these things are so very distant in time for him that they are all schumshed up into an amorphous ball called the ancient past or that McCain is so old that he is could have been Pasty Cline's prom date.
McCain is so old that he is could have been Pasty Cline's prom date.
He could have been Betsy Ross' prom date.
digadogabone, I've reported that. Racist and sexist and hateful-innuendo laden in one line -- pity there's not an academy award for filth.
Re the "disco age" references, McCain went to Washington in the 70's. That's why the 70's icons.
No different than the crap every one else puts up. Besides why is it racist????
Why is it sexist??? I thought the gay lifestyle was accepted in America.
I will have an Academy Award before I die
you are right, The GOP had its convention in the same town as the GOP senator got busted for propositioning sex in the men's room.
I wonder if the conventioneers took pictures of that airport bath room. The GOP has a great legacy with the homosexual community, and they should be proud of it.
Got to admit between Paige's bathroom sex and other unconventional sexual acts and orientations , the GOP not only accepts it but participates in it
Harvey Milk Live
Go Barney Frank
they are open about it what about the Craig and that pervert senator from Florida?
I have nothing against gays it is their choice, it is not my position to cast judgement, but it is my right to call my elected officials hypocrite's. Nothing worst than some one preaching from the cover of a bible with a copy of Beef Cake between the covers
Wow McCain is making some low blows at Obama, and Obama's strategy to fight back is to hit lower to add more to this drawn out soap Opera?
If I wanted to watch a game show I would turn on The Price is Right .. damn.
Well, Dukakis and Kerry both tried to take the high road, and we saw where it got them. Kerry naively believed that when the Swift Boat veterans trotted out their brazen libels, the media would do its job and debunk it, which could have been done in about five minutes with a little archival research. Obama isn't waiting for anyone else to counter the smears. Good for him.
I don't know if I would call this hitting lower. Claiming Obama wanted to teach sex ed to kindergartners when all he did was vote on a bill designed to protect children from pedophiles - that's the lowest anyone's stooped in this campaign.
Claiming Obama wanted to teach sex ed to kindergartners
I missed that but I've been buried in work and travel the last week.
Truly despicable. TRULY. But here's my sad prediction: it will get worse. And this lie about the sex ed for kindergartners is really going to hit some Americans in a very dirty, ugly place, that is their programmed fear of the black man as sexual predator. That's the sad truth.
When Obama hits back with the truth it's a low blow? McCain tells the filthiest lies about Obama and Obama responds with tough, but honest ads and the GOP complains about low blows? They'd be hilarious if it was so ignorant.
NeConRon - where did you read that Obama's plan was to hit lower? I read the article twice and that wasn't in there at all.
Hitting McCain on the issues of the campaign isn't really hitting lower if you ask me. I think that is what they should both be doing. McCain's scumbag advisors (i.e. Karl Rove crowd) can only play using lies and distortions. Even if Obama does hit lower (outside of the issues) what else would you expect him to do. If someone is attacking you with lies do you just turn and walk away?
The best way to beat a bully (McCain and his advisors) is to punch him in the nose. They usually can't take it - (i.e. Charlie Gibson was hard on Palin and it isn't fair)
No Fair Obama using the truth. That's as dirty as you can get! He will destroy this country!
"Great spirits have often encountered violent opposition from weak minds." AE
It seemed to me that up until the conventions that this election was being fought (relatively) cleanly. Things would seem to be changing for the worse in that regard though. Even though I'm voting for Obama I've always had a deep respect for McCain as a congressman and politician, but over the last couple weeks I've been extremely disappointed with the way he's been running his campaign (I sometimes wonder if it is him running it). And now that McCain has completely thrown himself into the mud Obama has little choice but to jump in and join him.
Why the hell can't we just debate the real issues? Does every "modern media hyped" election have to be run this way? Do the candidates assume we're so dumb that we would believe any lie thrown out from either side just because we sit on their side of the fence? Just let November get here already, I'm disgusted by the electoral process and wish it didn't have to be like this every four goddamned years.
You know who went dirty, ugly, negative and untruthful? Sarah Palin. She did what John McCain doesn't have the stones to do.
But we can't punch back at her because she's a guuuurrrrrllll and a mooommmmmyyyy.
Please. The American people need answers, not McBarbie.
But she also took the gloves off with her nasty lies and and jokes, so as far as I'm concerned Barack And Joe need to takes the gloves off too and beat her lying backside to the ground. If she wants to play rough then smack her down.
And watch how fast the McCain crowd cries Unfair treatment. It would be fun to watch both of them cry actually. Palin is only tough because she is on a stage surrounded by supporters and reading a prepared text - put her somewhere else and have her discuss issues without a script and she won't be looking so tough after all. She is kind of like a professional wrestler now that I think about it. Talk a tough game and then go in a follow the script.
10 years ago the internet was in it's infancy most people either didn't use it at all or had very very slow connections. McCain was 62 at that point and has only gotten older. The problem is everyone already knows that. There is no compelling reason for him to use a computer if he doesn't want to.
If they have a clip of him forgetting what he wanted to say somplace, that might be a worthwhile ad. The computer thing is stupid.
Rubbish. I've actively used the internet since 1992.
Yes, we had slow connections then. We still used it. People of all age who had a brain cell in their head realized the potential of the Internet for information and communication. My dad died at age 84 in 2004 and knew how to use the Internet.
John McCain IS a slow connection - to failed Republican policies that have, pardon my bluntness, @!$%#ed America over for 8 years.
Rubbish. I've actively used the internet since 1992.
Whoopdedo for you. The internet took off in the mid to late 90's. People used to wait two minutes for one page to load. Maybe you want to demand that McCain have a Blackberry or IPhone too. People need to grow up. He's a U.S. Senator for God's sake. If he communicates by crayon or carrier pigeon that is between him and the people he communicates with.
If he communicates by crayon that is between him and the people he communicates with.
Yup, four more years of the same for sure.
Bush: "Hey look what I drawed Mr. Cheney, its a cat!!"
Cheney: "That's mighty fine work there Mr. President, we're putting that up on the fridge right away."
I demand nothing from John McCain at all. No use for the man whatsoever.
But, if someone's going to consider hiring him for the job of Leader of the Free World, they might want to know his skills and abilities. Evidently, McCain needs other people around him who actually live and work in the 21st century to make up for his deficiencies.
I'm not asking McCain to do all his communication and information gathering. But it would be nice if he could do so without dependency on others.
Given the enormously importantly role the Internet plays, and will continue to play in our society, it is perfectly reasonable to expect that our President be comfortable with using it.
Reading all this crap tells me how much of a waste the Internet is. Hell porn is the number one market...oh joy..lets' all spank the monkey.
I doubt the most wealthy business men in the world can barely turn on a computer. They are just smart enough to hire people that can.
Whether a President can use a computer or not is BS. They don't even drive or carry money.
I doubt the most wealthy business men in the world can barely turn on a computer. They are just smart enough to hire people that can.
"We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them." Albert Einstein
Reading all this crap tells me how much of a waste the Internet is.
As you post your opinions on... wait for it... the internet!!
I doubt the most wealthy business men in the world can barely turn on a computer.
Really... so.. Bill Gates... Steve Jobs...? Like it or not, IT is extremely important in the US economy as a multi trillion dollar industry. e-commerce alone is a $200 billion dollar market.
Your correct - there isn't a compelling reason for him to use one. He has a staff that tells him what to do and he has no need for an ATM since he just calls his sugar mamma and she sends the staff over with cash.
The guy is out of touch and that is dangerous in this day and age - you can't say it isn't either. He actually got up on a stage and said with his own two lips that he doesn't know much about economics - DOESN'T KNOW MUCH - that is from his own mouth - not even something that the Obama campaign had to make up.
Good thing the economy is running along so well right now or we would be worried about electing someone that doesn't even understand it.
Good help us all.
Reading all this crap tells me how much of a waste the Internet is. Hell porn is the number one market...oh joy..lets' all spank the monkey. I doubt the most wealthy business men in the world can barely turn on a computer. They are just smart enough to hire people that can.

I'll defer to your expertise on how much porn is on the net.
The president of my company, (and digadogabone, I'm pretty sure he could buy and sell you with his pocket change), not only can and does use a computer, he demands that we all do so with competence. He doesn't hire people who can't carry their weight, innovate, research, and communicate. He wouldn't hire McCain. Neither would I.
Maybe the President doesn't carry a wallet but maybe he should? Could keep him in touch with the rest of us getting hurt by the prices of gas and food. Maybe he shouldn't be in a motorcade so that he has to deal with the crappy traffic that the rest of us suffer.
McCain is an out of touch old guy with no new ideas, and no way to get in touch with the American people.
And it isn't just the lack of skills with technology. The guy is out of touch with the world (nothing to do with being 72) because he lives in an ivory tower with his wife's $300 million fortune. That should be enough to tell you that he isn't going to help the every day person because he doesn't know what an every day person does. Don't think for a moment that living a life of that much wealth (not knocking it at all) doesn't cloud your view on the real world. If he had earned that money himself I might think a little differently but he married it and she didn't even earn it - she just outlived her parents. Not knocking wealth - I just don't think they share my values.
We are living in a very modern technical age. I believe it's 2008. If McCain can't learn how to use the internet and email how can he learn to run our country. C'mon, two year olds are using some type of computer, whether its a Leapfrog learning toy, it's still computerized. Hey let's start McCain with Leapfrog. Anyone want to volunteer their 2 year olds to teach McCain. But be cautious if McCain gets frustrated with them he might draft them into war, just for the hell of it!
If McCain can't learn how to use the internet and email how can he learn to run our country.
Lexieb:
You assume that the man can't learn to use the internet? How nuts is that?
That he hasn't taken the time to learn might be a function of how he actually does spend his time and the fact that he has a herd of assistants to access electronic communication devices that might be handy.
What presidential duty do you think requires internet competency?
Finally, if not accessing the internet means he's reading books instead, then he's spending his time in a more educationally fruitful way.
What presidential duty do you think requires internet competency?
Making informed decisions on net neutrality and e commerce legislation?
BAjunkie
Interesting bit of reasoning. Let's see if it can apply anywhere else?
So then you think Congress and the President were incompetent to enact legislation establishing Major League Baseball's monopoly because they'd never played professional ball?
So then you think Congressmen and Presidents are incompetent to enact regulations affecting air safety unless they happen to have been pilots or parachutists?
So then you think Congressmen and Presidents are incompetent to enact regulations affecting prescription drugs unless they happen to have been drug companies?
So then you think Congressmen and Presidents are incompetent to enact regulations affecting meat packing safety unless they happen to have been butchers?
So then you think Congressmen and Presidents are incompetent to enact regulations affecting nuclear regulation unless they happen to have been the operators of nuclear plants?
Naw...................that bit of rationalization just doesn't scour. If it did, nobody would be qualified to be president or serve in Congress because most things such magistrates deal with are outside their own personal experience.
It was a notion though.
Hello! This is the 21st century, not the 18th.
We just had a Cowboy, and saw what that's like, now we are being sold a Maverick and his side kick Annie Oakley?
If you don't know why we need a Leader who knows what kind of world we live in
then you Simply just don't get it. Simple
I think the fact that he has not learned how to use the internet or even send an e-mail (quite honestly a very simple thing to learn) probably doesn't impact how he would directly perform his day to day duties as president (as I believe most presidents don't use e-mail for obvious reasons). However - that being said it does shed some light on his level of curiosity and ability to adapt to an ever changing world. That to me is the more important element in this argument. We live in a very fast paced and complicated world and I think it is important that the person running our country be "of that world" and not just in it and riding along trying to look as if he is current.
The flip side to this argument is that it has been widely reported in the last week that Palin not only knows how to use e-mail (as does her husband) but she and her staff have taken a page out of the GOP playbook and use their personal e-mail addresses to communicate state business - because they feel it shields them from prying eyes and subpeonas. That is an even scarrier issue than McCain not knowing how to turn on a computer. This is obvisouly a women who believes that what she is doing is outside what the public would approve of so she has chosen to hide her actions and have a more secretive approach to governing. This is sounding more and more like Bush/Cheney every day.
If you don't know why we need a Leader who knows what kind of world we live in
then you Simply just don't get it. Simple

In 1961, when Ike left the White House for retirement in Gettysburg, he picked up a phone to dial for himself for the first time since 1942. According to his biographer Steven Ambrose, when Ike heard the dial tone that had been ubiquitous for most Americans for more than a decade, he didn't know what it was and thought the instrument was broken.
Was he therefore unfit as Supreme Commander and as President because he "didn't know what kind of world we live[d] in?"
I am sorry, young fella, but if you think the internet is of such inherent importance to 'knowing" what kind of world we live in, then I think it is you who has lost touch with "what kind of world we live in."
it does shed some light on his level of curiosity and ability to adapt to an ever changing world.
Nonsense: It means he's decided there is no information on the internet that he can only get by personally accessing it. What's important is the quality of information he gets, not how he gets it. If he's spending his time reading reports prepared by experts and by books written by authors who've educated themselves on subjects of the books, then the quality of the information he's getting is worlds better than what he'd find here, for instance.
Do you think when he says, "Hey you! Lackey "A", tell Lacky "B" to reschedule my speech in Omaha," that the Lackys ain't using Email on his behalf.
I frankly think it is a mark of credit to his curiosity that he doesn't waste his time exploring the intricacies of communication tools used by his underlings.
Does it follow from your argument that he can't be interested and curious about music because he doesn't own an IPOD?
Jess - you missed the entire point of my post. And interestling you assume that I am a young fella?
I said in there that it probably wouldn't have an impact on how he was president in the day to day functions. While your Ike story was interesting - what you fail to mention is that Ike was considered one of the most mediocre presidents of our time. Not a bad president but he didn't move the ball forward one inch. He was a great commander - can't say that he wasn't. However his was a seat warmer of a president - could have been caused by the serious heart attack while in office.
Your references to rebut my curiosity comment are beyond silly. You took that idea and when small time with it instead of big picture. I never said he should search the web or chat online with his secretary. Bring your game up a notch.

Young Fella - or Maybe Not (hmmmm interesting isn't it?)
Look it is not over till it's over..
You better ask somebody this is not the party of Kerry/Edwards
We are coming out swinging.....
You've Got more of the same !!!
We've go a country Hungry for Change!!!!!
OBAMA/BIDEN 08
Look it is not over till it's over..
That's a good one. When the left was ceaselessly trashing Sarah Palin a couple weeks ago, one of the resident goofs at Newsvine was touting her story that "it was over" because of something or other that she thought completely disqualified Palin. I guess the shoe is on the other foot now, and "it's not over" has supplanted "it's over" as the Obaman rallying cry.
Sarah was trashing herself. Except for a few rumors that no one believed all of the garbage the media dug out about her was created by her. She asked for it, she got it. I mean it's not like the media made her unmarried daughter pregnant or asked for hundreds of millions in earmarks or got her commissioner fired for not firing her ex-brother-in-law. Sarah brought all of these things down on herself.
Is tunnel vision a Republican trait?
Ms. Palin came out swinging. The mccain camp broke the news about her daughter.
Mccain/Palin/Rove have been criss=crossing the country reciting the same debunked lies.
The media went after Palin because of the way camp mccain handled the roll out.
Again this campaign is not owned by karl rove/bush and the republican big wigs.
Obama's campaign is powered by the people. You can laugh and be in disbelief but there is a movement that is occurring of everyday people just like me who are working for change and we will have our due...
OBAMA/BIDEN=CHANGE
Mike...Right on! And,what the heck lies are they yapping about?? McCain does not spell his name .B.U.S.H ... ana13...sounds like it will get uglier...
Let's not panic, people. We've got more than 50 days to go before election day. Relax!!! But I agree, Obama was taking the high road and trying to be noble and unfortunately it will not work. He needs to answer every charge. He needs to fight UFC style or he will lose. They also need to have the guts to attack Sarah Palin on the issues only. You can't say that you're a pit bull then want protection when the real dogs come out. World leaders will not treat her with "proper deference".
Obama tried to take the high road but...
We are dealing with people who will do anything and everything to win...following the lead of their leader Mccain's dirty trick and ads.
If camp Oama tells the truth that will be worst than any lie they can create.
My message to Ms.Palin...This ain't no tea party. You are not going to get a pass if you want to be treated like a girl grab your barbies and go home.
Palin/Mccain =The Real Bridge to Nowhere
Its amazing how our fine feathered friend and SELF described Maverick has pulled another Maverick move and hired the same people that ran Bush's campaigns. These are the same people that dragged he and his wife and kids through the mud in South Carolina in 2000 - the ones that he said her disgusting. Now they are his buddies and the maverick is writing them big checks to be disgusting on his campaign.
Sorry - just another example of how this guy isn't a maverick. Probably the worse example because he has actually sold his soul with this little maverick move.
The boxing references maybe prescient: If Obama conterpunches with "The Truth About You" he may make the McCain campaign look like the tottering, out of shape, much too smug Sonny Liston vs. the young Mohammed Ali (then Cassius Clay). However, Obama needs his own Angelo Dundee in his corner (and I don't mean Bill Clinton, who may be better cast as Don King in this movie).
Toward the end of the campaign a far riskier, but perhaps necessary, coda to the "Truth About You" campaign could be a "Truth About You" speech aimed squarely between the voting public's eyes, in which Obama takes off the gloves and becomes, almost in Kabuki style, the early Huey Long/Willie Stark persona, gambling that he can verbally slap sense into people by telling them directly that they've been suckered and disrespected, in a word "had", over and over by politicians who know they are stupid, promising and delivering nothing for them, not ever, hiding behind flags, nimbly diverting what passes as their thoughts and questions, manipulating their infantile need for an omniscient protector, their childhood love of easily chanted slogans and their idiotically insatiable hunger for rumor, scandal, half-truths, outright lies, and simple solutions.
Obama should look straight into the camera and tell the American public that Bush conned them and laughed at them, Reagan conned them and laughed at them, and now McCain is conning them and laughing at them.
He should strongly suggest that these people are not Conservatives but Corporatists disguised as Conservatives. Obama, at that point in the speech, should immediately bring Democratic convention speaker Susan Eisenhower on to explain her (Republican President and) grandfather's immortal warning about the dangers and evils of the military-industrial complex.
At that point, Barack/Stark should exhort us to choose: Are we going to get up and walk on our hind legs, or......" Well, you've all read All the King's Men, so you know the rest.
To all you GOP supporters out there, I'll just say one thing.
I'm 29 years old, and this is the FIRST time I've ever voted in my life. I've never voted because I've never cared so much about wanting this country to change, especially after the past 8 years. And, it was Obama that stimulated me, NOT McCain/Palin (bunch of BS that McCain is the agent of change).
If McCain/Palin become President/VP, I can guarantee you that many young people like me will be VERY disappointed and will probably never vote again in our lives. I'll guarantee you I won't. What's the point, when the spirit of hope is quashed? You GOP supporters are delusional to think that the GOP is the agent of change.
Wow 29 is a great age!
Don't let the success of failure of this election discourage you from being involved in the process.
I am much older and believe me after the last election I was almost paralyzed for two day.
I was so depressed because I could not believe that so many people could not see that another 4 years of the bush administration would not be good for the country.
I believe that history has proved me and millions of other to have been right.
We were right then and we are right now.
This is not a spectator sport get out there and do something to help make this happen.
It is not about just you or me it is for the good of our country.
Obama/Biden 08
This all sucks. I don't care who you like or who you vote for. This is the best we can do?? A buncha name calling mamby pamby's. YOU BOTH SUCK
digadogabone...
I would encourage you to not put yourself in the place or position to get so upset over words expressed by those that have the right to their own opinions. We still live in a democracy, which allows for persons to have a voice.
Try to be a bit more tolerant, state your opinion, but do so with respect and a little dignity and diversity.
You seem so stressed out.
Nicely said DIGADOGABONE - hate the name calling and then end with YOU BOTH SUCK. The reason it gets this way is because no matter how much people say they hate the mud slinging, they actually like it and particpate in it. Its like having Access Hollywood on location - all the smut you can handle about things that don't matter.
Too many people in the US like trash and gossip - until that changes this will all stay the same and we will deal more with Britney Spears than we will fixing our country.

[The elitist, as in McCain] The artificial aristocracy is a mischievous ingredient in government, and provision should be made to prevent its ascendency." --Thomas Jefferson to John Adams, 1813.
Oh God is this that guy who pulls up quotes all day and tries to impress us?
How the hell did my parents generation get past the great depression and WWII?
All we have now is a bunch of crying babies who don't even know what hard times are.
Life is to hard, I can't make it, I need more free stuff. This country is sucking wind because the men act like women and the women think their men.
This country needs a sex change and time to take the baby bottles out of their mouths
Those who do not learn from history are destined to repeat it. If you are not impressed with the Founders of America, then How can you call yourself an American? You are avoiding the issue with disinformation tactics. Your comment fails to offer any meaningful dialog or information, and are worthless except to pander to emotionalism, and in fact, reveal you to be emotionally insecure with these matters. Why do you refuse to address the issues by use of such "Ad hominem abusive" tactics?
"Being ignorant is not so much a shame, as being unwilling to learn."
Benjamin Franklin
I do just fine. I think on my own two feet and have better quotes than most founding fathers. And the last thing this county is doing is following in the footsteps of our founding fathers. 75% are egg sucking gutless wonders who want everthing for free and don't even try. And the last thing they do is give a s h i t about AMERICA.
So pull up all the quotes you want sonny, because no one is paying attention.
Play I HAVE A DREARM 100 more times on TV and tell me about the black mans plight.
I still can't walk down in Compton without fear of getting shot just because I'm white.
So pull up a quote and show me the error of my ways.
might be easier walking down the street in Compton, if you remove the rebel flag from your jacket
Dan Hallo...
"An imbalance between rich and poor is the oldest and most fatal ailment of all republics." Plato
How true, how true. And that is just what Bush and his administration have gone and done. And we do not want more of the same doctrine. The Republican party is very well known in bringing on the great dvide in society's across the country. The rich got richer and the hard-working man and woman got poorer.
That is not what their political positions were meant to do to citizens of this nation. We must start moving in a different direction under Obama's lead.
BEV_OKC_CITIZEN
That's what I hope for as well. this top down crap has been a failure for millennia, why do we want to go back to the time of insane kings and warlords? That's what the republicans will lead us to.
The difference between a thriving country and a third world country is the middle class. Ours is deteriorating. We need to do something now. Obama/Biden 08
How the hell did my parents generation get past the great depression and WWII?
In short, they elected a Democrat who brought about the New Deal, a plan to redistribute wealth and power from an elite class back to the masses. Sound familiar?
Watched Obama last night regarding making opportunities open to all Americans to and to help college tuition students if they will in return help America with new gained knowledge. Barack Obama is a very intelligent man and Joe Biden is second to none in Foreign Policy. The choice is clear to me as it is time to change Washington and with no lobbyists at all working for Obama this is one Vietnam Veteran who will be voting for Obama/Biden 2008.
Actually, if you watched the entire forum last night--Obama and McCain almost completely agreed on everything. Am I the only person who sees the nastiness, ugliness, and mudslinging from both sides? It's there. We have no innocent candidate here.
Rixart...Proud of your service to America and BRAVO in supporting Obama!!!
Rixart I agree and I am also a veteran (DAV AF). My vote is Obama/Biden
usa1 thank you for sharing my brother, I am (DAV CG). Obama/Biden 2008 in 52 more days.
Mc Cain and Sarah have been on the TV all day telling lies. Sarah now thinks she will work with other to cut down the rate of abortion.McCain lied on the view said Sarah never had earmarks as a governor. Which is a bold face lie. They are saying anything they want. REFORM MY A$$! once they are in the WH it will be Poltics as usual. Some one should ask McCain if Rove will be in his Whitehouse? We need to work even harder. to make sure Obama gets elected. Obama doesn't just throw around the word change, he gives us hope.
Amen Nancy in WA!
Does Palin and her new found buddy really believe they can say one thing and then say another without the world questioning thier intentions?
I have heard no less than 4 outright lies, since she has opened her mouth and as for Mickey C...well...I haven't heard much from him lately, but I do know he represents more of the same and yet claims the adverse.
He and she will be called in on their outright lies...America turn to and start working for a better America...write, donate, educate voters...do whatever you can to support Obama and his team.
No it wont be rove in the white house Nancy in will be lunatics like Lieberman and Lyndsay Gram which are worse than Rove.
Palin thought the Bush Doctrine was a gynecologist lol
she also thinks the hijackers of 911 were from Iraq
Oh dear God...where did you hear that? Okay...she needs to go back to the igloo and stick her head in between two ice blocks...
WAKE UP AMERICA...IGNORANCE IS NOT AN OPTION OR A PREREQUISITE IN RUNNING A COUNTRY.
Obama appears to be tired of the bull hockey coming from the McCain campaign. I do believe their are about to find out how Obama was able to make it to the top in Chicago politics. The gloves are coming off, this should get interesting. If McCain doesn't watch it he will be called a liar to his face during one of the debates.
I am getting very tired of all of this. Obama/Biden, McCain/Palin spend all day talking about he said she said. It is obvious that we as a nation must be so in love with all the back and forth banter because that is all we get. Sound bite after sound bite and at the end of the day all we have is pigs with lipstick and overstatements of resumes. Try to stay focused America! 8 is enough! Obama/Bidem 08!
I agree, now McCain is resorting to lies. He is a true inept snake in the grass.
I am awaiting the debates!!!!!!
Oh ... me too... waiting with baited breathe as to the showdown we're going to see when both parties debate the issues.
If McCain speaks the truth and Obama brings out the truth, McC and P haven't a chance in hell.
I'm planning a party...wanna come? unlike Republicans, looking to make a buck whenever and wherever possible...It's free admissions for all!
I will be there with my TIVO recording each second of the debate!!!!!.
Wow yeah that ad was a 'brilliant" move Obama,
Hmmm lets see what age group shows up for every election in record numbers? People over 60 and by making fun of McCain as being old and out of touch you just probabaly molilized the entire AARP against you. As somebody who worked the polls I have watched seniors come in in carpools and those senior center buses to vote. Especially if they are mad about something. He already had the Evangelical vote locked up, now youv'e given him another.
I dont know who on your campaign gave you this advice but you might want to think about hiring some new people.
Wow that should bump McCain up in the polls another couple of points in Florida!
No McGovern ...
I am affiliated with AARP and I must inform you that the majority of older citizens I have had the pleasure of talking up politics are hands down, with fist on table, rooting and looking for change and believe Obama / Biden (a senior citizen) will bring it on home. And I'm talking countrywide, not just in FL!
Not to worry...there are more educated and intelligent older persons than you realize and they have felt the monetary pain and suffering McCain has brought on and has effected their generations. Thank God..huh!
This is just more lipstick on a pig nonsense. Obama's ad is making fun of the fact that McCain hasn't taken the time to learn how to use a computer, and doesn't feel it's very important to do so. He has his techological head in the sand. He's trying to say he's for change and he won't even make an effort to change himself. There are are lots of AARP folks who love their computers, I talk with them all of the time at work. THEY probably even think that he is an "old fuddyduddy" as my mom would say.
McCain is aware of technology, he is able to use a telegraph, and knows what a gramophone is. He just has a problem with these new fangled phones, he keeps looking for the crank.
He IS the crank. His new campaign slogan is "Hey you kids! Get off my lawn!"
LOL, I don't understand McCain's campaign is upset because McCain is compared as a relic of the disco age. They should be flattered since he is actually a relic from the bronze age
lol R Donald! lol usa1. Maybe he's a relic from the Mezozoic period? Methusalah? (sorry, i'm getting carried away)
$200 billion in new tax cuts for corporations and almost nothing for the middle class...THIS IS JUST WHAT I AM VOTING AGAINST.
Don't forget the fact that he has no clue as to how many houses he and his very well - to - do wife has. They need not worry, they're set for the years he has left...and we're counting.
VOTE OUT RIGHT WING BIGOTRY AND PHILANDORING AND PANDORING to the wealthy...
IT'S NOW TIME TO REVERSE THOSE SELFISH PRACTICES AND GIVE BACK THE POWER TO THE PEOPLE AND FOR THE PEOPLE.
We cannot wait any longer for change...NOW!
as the middle class is just considered collateral damage of this economic policy, as the middle class we should show our discourse and stop paying any tax to the federal government. Take one week off from work and not buy a thing, and stop paying bills for a month. Marching protests no longer work but a short boycott of money will show how powerful the middle class is.
