— Movies
Feel like a Western? How about one that involves the handsome Viggo Mortensen (never a bad thing) and the lovely Renee Zellweger? The reviews out of the Toronto Film Festival are mixed, but if you like genre, ride out to see “Appaloosa.” (Opens Sept. 17)

Samuel L. Jackson said he wishes there was more female nudity in creepy-cop drama “Lakeview Terrace,” so at least you know this thriller will be somewhat family-friendly. (Opens Sept. 19)

Can British comic Ricky Gervais become a movie star? His new comedy, “Ghost Town,” looks a bit high-concept, but if anyone can bring something fresh to the formula, it's Gervais. (Opens Sept. 19)

TV
Who hasn't mocked Martha Stewart? Stewart's daughter, Alexis, will be one of two hosts offering snarky critiques of old clips of Mom on "Whatever, Martha!" Stewart says the concept was inspired by "Mystery Science Theater 3000." (Premieres Sept. 16, 9 p.m., Fine Living)

Fat and families: Hot-button topics, indeed. Husband-wife and parent-adult child duos try and lose weight together on the new family-focused season of "The Biggest Loser." (Premieres Sept. 16, 8 p.m. ET, NBC.)

"House" is back, and he's still bitter. We wouldn't have it any other way. (Returns Sept. 16, 8 p.m., Fox)

DVD
Talk about golden oldies: "Young @ Heart" tells the true story of a senior-citizens' chorus who sing modern rock songs. Touching, entertaining, and life-affirming from the first note to the last. (On sale Sept. 16)

Thanks to a mysterious brain dump, goofy nerd "Chuck" is now working with spies and running from bad guys. Catch up with him via his first season, out on DVD this week. (On sale Sept. 16)

Music
Are you missing Fleetwood Mac? While they aren't reuniting anytime soon, Mac man Lindsay Buckingham is releasing a new CD, “Gift of Screws.” (On sale Sept. 16)

Christmas music in September? Faith Hill is hoping to get on your gift list early with her new release, “Joy To the World.” (On sale Sept. 16)

Romantic evening in the works? R&B singer Ne-Yo’s “Year of the Gentleman” might put your loved one in the mood. On his blog, Ne-Yo writes that his lyrical view of women is “sexy, strong, sexy, a lil’ dangerous.” (On sale Sept. 16)
