Couple in settlement with State Farm over Katrina

GULFPORT — A Mississippi Gulf Coast couple has settled a lawsuit against State Farm Fire & Casualty Co. over damage to their home from Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

U.S. District Judge L.T. Senter Jr. on Monday agreed to dismiss the lawsuit after lawyers for Thomas and Pamela McIntosh and State Farm filed documents showing the settlement had been reached.

Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

Last week, Senter dismissed portions of the McIntoshes' lawsuit after the couple said there was no evidence that State Farm acted negligently or in bad faith.

The lawsuit was once considered the centerpiece Katrina litigation for now-imprisoned attorney Richard "Dickie" Scruggs, once the among the most prominent — and feared — tort attorneys in the country.
