McCartney's ex donating $1M in vegan food to Bronx

Paul McCartney's ex-wife is donating $1 million worth of soy hamburgers, soy hot dogs and soy chicken cutlets to one of the poorest neighborhoods in the Bronx.

Heather Mills is set to announce the donation just before the Hunts Point Back to School Fair kicks off Saturday afternoon. The vegan animal rights campaigner is an honorary chairwoman of the nonprofit that organizes the event.

She tells the New York Post that she wants to make sure children in the neighborhood "have as many nutritional advantages as anyone else."

Children in Hunts Point have some of the highest obesity and asthma rates in the city.

Mills and McCartney were granted a divorce earlier this year.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Wow, a gold digger gives away some of Paul's hard earned money. How philanthropic.

Personally, having eaten soy hamburgers and hot dogs to see if they were edible or not, I think the $1 million in cash would be better for the neighborhood.

Good for her. Maybe it's not her money she's donating, but it's a worthy cause.

This is grandstanding. Why send a million dollar's worth of food to a wealthy nation? You cannot impose vegetarianism on people, any more than you can ingratiate yourself into American hearts.

What a great thing for Heather Mills to do.

It doesn't matter where she got the money from, fact is she has it,  and most people getting it from their ex spouse, would for the most part not give much of it away, when I watched part of the today program it was not just soy things but other things such as well like broccoli, She is planning to still do even more projects with them in the future not just a one time give and she was challenging and hoping that others watching her that have money will also be moved as well in the direction of helping them and some that don't have that much money but have at-least $1.00 to spare will be touched and give it, they all add up, I have ate soy burgers and they didnt seem so good to me, then we mixed it half an half with real burger and it was quite tasty and a little bit healthier then just plain burgers.

As for imposing her vegetarian life on people I don't see that is it, I see it as her trying to make sure they have some nutritious things to choose from to feed these kids, what other donations they get from others can go towards some meat.
