ANCHORAGE — A video on her hometown church Web site shows Sarah Palin being blessed three years ago by a Kenyan pastor who prayed for her protection from "witchcraft" as she prepared to seek higher office.

The video, which made the rounds Wednesday on the Internet, shows Palin standing before Bishop Thomas Muthee in the pulpit of the Wasilla Assembly of God church, holding her hands open as he asked Jesus Christ to keep her safe from "every form of witchcraft."

"Come on, talk to God about this woman. We declare, save her from Satan," Muthee said as two attendants placed their hands on Palin's shoulders. "Make her way my God. Bring finances her way even for the campaign in the name of Jesus. ... Use her to turn this nation the other way around."

The date of the sermon listed on the church Web site is Oct. 16, 2005. Palin formally announced her gubernatorial bid two days later and was elected the next year.

Palin does not say anything on the video and keeps her head bowed throughout the blessing. The Republican vice presidential candidate was baptized at the church but stopped attending regularly in 2002.

A spokesman for the McCain campaign declined to comment late Wednesday. A person who answered the phone at the Wasilla church confirmed the video was from May 2005 but declined further comment.

Palin was baptized Roman Catholic as a newborn.

Pentecostals are conservative in their reading of the Bible. Unlike most other Christians — including most evangelicals — Pentecostals believe in "baptism in the Holy Spirit." That can manifest itself through speaking in tongues, modern-day prophesy and faith healing, which includes the laying on of hands.

Maria Comella, a spokeswoman for the McCain-Palin campaign, has said Palin attends different churches and does not consider herself Pentecostal.

On a visit to the church in June 2008, Palin spoke fondly of the Kenyan pastor and told a group of young missionaries that Muthee's prayers had helped her to become governor.

"Pastor Muthee was here and he was praying over me, and you know how he speaks and he's so bold," she said. "And he was praying 'Lord make a way, Lord make a way' ... He said, 'Lord make a way and let her do this next step.' And that's exactly what happened."

Muthee returned to the Wasilla church last weekend, where he gave a series of sermons over three days. Palin was campaigning in Florida.

The Rev. Zipporah Ndiritu, who studied under Muthee in the Kiambu, Kenya-based Word of Faith Church, said the bishop is revered among evangelicals there. In a phone interview from Mombasa, Kenya, she said church doctrine focuses on ridding the world of demons — and witches.

"Even in the days of Jesus Christ, according to the Bible there were witches who were manifesting through demonic forces," she said. "You can seek from the Lord, and if you find demonic forces you cast them out."

Ndiritu said she did not know Palin.

Ok, for one, a Journalist should be aware that the individual in this country has a right to his or her own religious beliefs and that commenting, is a form of judging; as such, a form of "manipulating" others to a bias, that may or may not originate with the reader; therefore, it becomes a form of "persecution"; look up the May Flower Compact for clarification. Second, a Kenyan pastor is more or less a front line solider in the Christian world of things, so he would see the devil in a more personal light; he might have a better perspective on "demonic activity" than, say a simple, atheistic journalist, who may or may not know what he is talking about. If you don't believe in witchcraft, or the devil, try working with homeless people, you'll find evidence to the contrary soon enough. Finally, the most treasured possession of any journalist is the right to free speech; with the same above, possible, persecuting influence, wouldn't that be a form of "censorship" of Governor Palin's right to express herself? The trouble with being a journalist is the art of remaining objective. The minute one begins to paint a picture in the mind of a reader, one looses that ability, even if it is of a grainy video on YouTube.

Sorry. Freedom of religion doesn't include the right not to have people talk about your religion or make judgments about it. It only includes the freedom from "interference with the free exercise" of your beliefs. And we really shouldn't be citing the Mayflower Compact in a dialogue about religious freedom. After all, the Puritans routinely kicked people out of their colony for disagreeing with the beliefs dominant within the Massachusetts colony. They were only interested in religious freedom for themselves.

That said, this story is pretty trivial and has little if any bearing on Palin's qualifications for office. I wish the media would concentrate on more relevant questions about Palin's church, like whether or not they give money to a group that's stockpiling arms to "fight for God" whenever they decide that Armageddon's happened.

Trivial, yes. But was Obama's association with Reverend Wright handled as a trivial matter? No it wasn't. It was 24 hours a day - everyday! He was never taped speaking with the Reverend, or even on stage with him. This video not only shows Palin involved with the Pastor, but other videos show her referring to how important and effective the man is - essentially suggesting that he had something to do with her getting elected. Can you imagine what would have been done to Obama had there been a "witch doctor" in his past?

It should have been a trivial matter, but because of the internet it is out there. How does a media venue decide to air the inflammatory videos of one candidate, and not the other, without appearing biased?

Frank the communist in 'Dreams of my father' whom was a great inspiration to Obama.
Saul Alinski, community organizer self proclaimed socialist who taught Obama the ropes.
Rezko, Criminal who did favors for Obama via real estate fraud.
William Ayers, Terrorist who founded an organization with Obama. Ayers was in charge of the extremist education projects and Obama was in charge of the funding. They worked closely for a long time.
Rev Wright, Black liberation theology racist and marxist. 20 years!!!!!
Father Flagherty, racist against his own color and also a marxist. hatemonger.
Farakahn, Extreme racist who thinks whites should be eliminated.

These are just the ties we know about. All of these are anti-american and filled with hate. How many does it take to make someone in-elligable for your vote? How many is one too many? Seriously, WHAT THE F@#& are you thinking when you want to vote for someone like this? These people are his friends, his inspiration. Are you people mad? We aren't talking about one skeleton in the closet here. You can only rationalize and explain so much. Never in our history have we had such an anti-american in the running for president. He IS the Manchurian candidate who is going to bring socialism to democracy, nationalism to capitalism. This will no longer be the land of the free.

Christianity is just another Middle Eastern religion which encourages stealing from their opponents, then claims the blessings of God/Allah/Jehovah when successful.
This current witch hunt isn't about God--it's about black gold. Oil.
The European witch hunts were started by E India Tea Co reps who wanted to import the practice of suttee so they could steal land from widows. Failing that, they burned them as "witches". In Salem, young girls rebelled against forced marriages to older men for property acquisition. They were hanged. One was my many-times-great-great aunt.
Now we have witch hunts starting in Alaska, where working-class people own homesteaded land with property rights intact, near oil fields and pipelines. Also vulnerable: the Black Hills, oil-and natural-gas rich central AL, and oil-shale lands in upper E TN and Ky, or anywhere ignorance thrives.
Vote "None of the Above" on a write-in ballot and vote to rid ourselves of both Muthee, Rev. Wright, and the specter of a white Mugabe in our futures.

Exscuse me? How do I report someone for blatant slander? Don't post hate filled garbage and then attach my name to it. I shouldn't be suprised, this is the tactic of the liberal left. You know, make stuff up and then hope the public buys it before some of the media comes out and proves it to be false. You sir are the lowest of low. You can't even take part of a discussion, your only resort is to call people names and fling boogers. Congratz, you have graduated from preschool to kindergarden.

Bring finances her way even for the campaign in the name of Jesus.

I think that is worse than the witches part. The witches thing is just stupid. But suggesting she is campaigning for Jesus is disturbing. I thought political offices were intended to serve the people, not Jesus.

I'd like to bring in some clarification concerning the matter of 'baptism in the Holy Spirit'. All Christians, whether Catholic, Protestant or otherwise, view baptism as being of the Holy Spirit. In the case of infants this means that at the time of baptism the Holy Spirit enters into the person, and then, presumably, the child is raised being instructed in God's word through the Scriptures. In the case of adults, one may be moved by the Holy Spirit to be baptized, and, having recieved instruction in the basic teachings of the Christian church, may then be baptized and continue to learn about God's will for our lives.

As concerning gifts of the Spirit, whether it be tongues, prophecy, healing, teaching, hospitality, interpreting of tongues, and so on, again all Christians know of these things. It is true that the different denominations will place different emphasis on some of them, but they are universal within the Christian faith.

MEDIA BIAS ROBS AMERICANS OF THE TRUTH ... NOW, AP IS UNFARILY PLAYING THE RACE CARD ... The media’s continual bias in favor of Obama is not only disgusing, it’s against everything that America, a Free Press, and Freedom of Speech stands for. To suggest that there is no media bias in favor of Obama not only robs Americans of the truth, it insults the intelligence of the American people. TALK IS CHEAP … CHECK OBAMA’S RECORD !!! A candidate’s track record, and associations are always a legitimate issue when running for President. Let’s take a look at the qualifications, judgement, and experience of Obama, who is running for President. Obama had 25 years to fulfill the potential he displayed as a rising start at Harvard Law School … and, how did he live up to that potential? … He chose to align himself with anti-American racist, Jeremiah Wright for TWENTY YEARS … along with Ferrahkan, Rezko, Ayers, and others. As a community organizer, he registered thousands of voters in Chicago … then, when he ran for the state legislature, he took away their votes, by disqualifying his opponent (a black woman) on a technicality. As a U.S. Senator, he voted present 160 times … he never called a meeting on the Afghanistan committee he chaired (although he NOW says we must shift all our military from Iraq to Afghanistan). He claimed Foreign Policy experience from a 9 day whirlwind photo op to 6 countries. And, he spent almost half of his tenure neglecting his responsibilities as a U.S. Senator, so he could run for President. Senator McCain served America honorably for 22 years in the military. He proved his love for America, as well as his honor, integrity and character, by refusing early release as a P.O.W., even while being tortured. He served America as a ‘contributing’ U.S. Senator, working across the aisle, for 20 years. If Obama’s Twentyfive year track record shows he lacks judgement, and can’t be trusted, who cares what he says about Health Care and the Economy! What Obama never learned is Character. He simply can’t be trusted … ask Jeremiah Wright, a friend of 20 years, who Obama betrayed for personal ambition … and, you Obama supporters really think he won’t betray you If he gets elected??? If he gets elected, you Obama supporters will be facing a HUGE disillusionment !!!
