"Late Show" host David Letterman treated John McCain's decision to cancel an appearance on his talk show more like a stupid human trick than the act of a statesman.
The Republican presidential candidate said he was halting his campaign activities Wednesday, citing the need to deal with the nation's financial crisis, and called Letterman to drop out of the show's late-night lineup. On the air Wednesday night, Letterman assailed McCain's rationale and, with prickly humor, questioned whether the nominee — now trailing in some polls — was in trouble.
"This doesn't smell right," Letterman said. "This is not the way a tested hero behaves. Somebody's putting something in his Metamucil."
McCain spokeswoman Nicole Wallace said Thursday that the campaign "felt this wasn't a night for comedy."
"We deeply regret offending Mr. Letterman, but our candidate's priority at this moment is to focus on this crisis," Wallace said on NBC's "Today" show.
Letterman called McCain "a true American hero" but told his viewers: "This is not the John McCain I know, by God. It makes me believe something is going haywire with the campaign."
Instead of suspending a campaign, Letterman said, a presidential candidate should go to Washington to deal with a crisis and let his running mate shoulder the burdens of politicking.
"That's what you do. You don't quit. ... Or is that really a good thing to do?" Letterman said, a reference to McCain's running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. "What's the problem? Where is she? Why isn't she doing that?" he asked.
Letterman later asked: "Are we suspending it because there's an economic crisis or because the poll numbers are sliding?"
Making matters worse for McCain, his replacement was MSNBC's "Countdown" host Keith Olbermann, a constant critic of the Arizona senator.
McCain told the CBS show that he was immediately flying back to Washington, Letterman told his audience. Then Letterman showed a TV feed of McCain being made-up for an appearance on news anchor Katie Couric's "CBS Evening News."
"Doesn't seem to be racing to the airport, does he?" Letterman said. "This just gets uglier and uglier."
As McCain spoke to Couric, Letterman shouted at the feed: "Hey, John, I've got a question. Do you need a ride to the airport?"
Letterman later said: "We're told now that the senator has concluded his interview with Katie Couric and he's now on Rachael Ray's show making veal piccata. ... What are you going to do?"

He lied to his wife, he lied to Letterman, you think he's not gonna lie to America?
the the old man's a douche.
There's actually part of an Interview series with both candidates with Katie Couric on CBS's website, where she actually asks the candidates when it is acceptable to lie to the American people.
I guess we don't have to watch the McCain section. We already know everything is fair game for his lies.
I want to preface my comments by saying I don't know to whom I will be giving my vote this election. I am one of the many undecided. Neither candidate is really doing much for me.
Having said that- this matter really makes McCain appear unable to keep a commitment or worse amazingly adept at lying.
I'll give him the benefit of the doubt maybe he felt that Couric's show at that point in time was more important than Letterman's. Why not be honest? Why say you are leaving town?
If there is such a crises that you can not see through a commitment once made, why go on the Rachel Ray show. I would love to hear a response to this -without all the rhetoric (i.e. Obama bad/McCain good or McCain Bad / Obama good)
It seems really unfair to criticize Letterman for being upset, and voicing that upset when he was lied to and obviously felt slighted.
Jam:
That is the fundamental part of this that is so disturbing. McCain seems to be willing to lie even in situations where it has no positive effect for him or anything for that matter.
I hope you will continue to pay attention in the days to come. This is nothing new.
That's it!!!! I'm voting for Barr.
Bob Barr 2008! Uhh, I don't think he has a VP candidate....I know what I'll be doing in November!
Barr/Annoyed '08!
JAM,
Exactly... Neither candidate was doing much for me, until I asked myself a question. "Okay, you're not sure who to vote for. Who do you vote AGAINST?" That clarified things rapidly.
While the fact that McCain lied to and cheated on his disabled wife is distasteful, the fact that he's so quick to lie to the public disturbs me. The fact that he lied while on the campaign trail about his feelings regarding the Confederate flag is especially disturbing, and tells me he's willing to lie to the public for personal gain. And, arguably the biggest decision he had to make in the campaign, his choice of running mate, was, in my humble opinion, NOT well thought out. (I'd go on, at length, about Palin, but that's not what we're discussing, here.)
As for Obama... There's some concern that he might and that's a BIG might) have been a Muslim. So? In case people have forgotten, this is AMERICA. If you want to worship imaginary unicorns, go right ahead, as long as you're not breaking any laws. A President who has some understanding of the Muslim culture does NOT sound like a bad thing, at the moment. There's concern that he's short on experience with foriegn policy. Well, his choice of running mate very neatly covers that one, Biden has a boatload of experience, there. Quite honestly, he hasn't done much to offend me, other than holding up his end of the mudslinging that's been going on. (And I respect his stand that Bristol Palin and the rest of Palin's family are off-limits.)
Cleared things up nicely for me, anyway.
I understand the University of Mississippi will lose up to 5 million dollars if the presidential debate is canceled as McCain is apparently trying to do. Now that is really letting folks down. Do we really need another president like this?
Rainkiss:
I would like to commend you on your thoughtful comments.
Maybe Congress can add a few million to the bailout to compensate Ole Miss for the loss. And throw in a little for poor Dave Letterman who had his show spoiled.
I guess McCain just doesn't have his priorities straight.
Doesn't it seem ironic that since the country has been in "crises" for what almost two weeks McCain waits until now to find the sense of urgency to stop his campaign and run to Washington to save the day? If this is such an emergency why didn't he stop his campaign before the photo ops in New York? You know, the ones where Palin is meeting all the top knobs from other countries and having her picture taken for ALL to see ? Where the pit bull still had her muzzle on and could not speak with the press? Why is it only after that did it become a true emergency? Is it because the session is suppose to end Friday and not reconvene until after the New Year? If the situation has been so dire why has it taken him so long to respond? He needs to go and bring his party together now? Two days ago you couldn't get him to answer the question of which way he was leaning and he's one of the heads of the Republican party. Oh that's right, in the beginning there wasn't a problem, it was just a figment of all our imaginations. If the whole reason he's suppose to be going there is to solidify the party why hasn't he been in contact with them all along? It is important right? Or is this another 9/11 for the Republican party in more ways than one? Scare tactics like after 9/11, 2001? Or what about the no campaigning on 9/11 2008, where Sarah Palin used the podium to send her son off to war when he wasn't even leaving that day? And the media allows McCain to get away with this crap over and over but complain when Palin won't talk to them? Where was this united front that McCain stole from Obama? Everyone admits it was Obama's camp reached out first to say they should make a statement TOGETHER, to show bi-partinship. Getting the jump on it first just goes to clue you in to what McCain is really going for.. Himself...not the country... himself. You don't step on the hand that's held out to you for the good of the country, the country you say you so care so much about by showboating to the cameras. And good for David L. for putting him in his place. How many times has McCain been on his show and they are supposedly good friends yet he out and out lies to him? (Its not like David L. needs McCain to make his ratings) Then the really good part is is The "Maverick" is going to Washington to get the Republican base to agree with their Republican President! The same President that they have been pushing us to believe to believe McCain has distanced himself with. McCain can't get control of HIS campaign, doesn't have an original opinion or decision, and has a hard time controlling what is coming out of his own mouth. Does he really know what's best for our country or really care? I think we have all just become stepping stones to what he really wants at any cost, The title of President.
LINDA LINDA HOW MANY WORTHLESS PARAGRAPHS CAN U WRITE
I am glad Letterman showed the clip of Mcsame with Katie Couric. It shows what a real opportunistic phony Mcsame really is. If he was so concern why did he wait to the last minute to speak up.
Mcsame is afraid the debate is going to turn to the economy...something he knows nothing about! His poll numbers are dropping. HE IS TRULY DESPERATE !!!!! This crisis no time for phony concerns and photo ops.
So why can't McCain multi task. I do believe the crises, caused in part by McCain's continual deregulate, deregulate, deregulate was due to that song. I think the crises must be addressed, but I believe the American people deserve at the very least the debate that has been promised.
Does anyone really believe this was not political grandstanding by McCain?????????
He is really flattering himself - 99 senators can't resolve the mess without him?
Our getting debate info to decide on who the next pres should be is less important than his one vote on the crisis?
The time to prepare for and participate in the debate can't be long enough for him to take part in both activities.
It's all so transparent - but then, so is his campaign.....
I am reminded of what Bush said a few months back: "The fundamentals of our economy are strong. ... Job creation is strong. Real after-tax wages are on the rise. Inflation is low."
What planet do these Republicans live on??
Our economy is the way it is because of Bush and his war. Period. Unless McCain can go back in time, he is about worthless in my opinion.
I am glad Dave brought to light McCain's B.S. and got people talking, that otherwise would sit silent. Letterman is no idiot, and loves this country. McCain is a puppet for Bush, and may continue to be, even after Bush is gone.
My goodness! How dumb does McCain and his campaign hoodlums think the public is? If elected these are the republican idiots who will run the country, that is a very scary thought. His presidency will be like Howard Hughes' last years OMG! !#%&^(
How many of the "undecided" were waiting to see McCain last night on Lettermen and decided?
Damn Late Night TV talk show celebrities, can't live with 'em and and can't shot-em.
McCian will either ignore this. or try to get back on Lettermen, asap. But the damage is done...
David Letterman is a Comedian; since when is his TV show more important then dealing with an incredibly serious Economic Crises for the US and maybe even the ENTIRE World.
Letterman needs to check himself and put his EGO in perspective. His comments regarding McCain's postponement and or cancellation of his appearance on "The Letterman" show were just ludicrous, pompous and arrogant.
McCain is a real Leader, a man who will put aside his own self-interest and agenda for the good of the Country. McCain does not care about the polls or "hurting" Letterman's "overly sensitive" feelings of self importance; McCain cares about the Country and the needs of our Citizens FIRST!!!
Also, McCain picked Gov. Sarah Palin for VP BECAUSE he thought she was the BEST choice; not as the cynical MSM report (for political reasons). The media is pathetic and they just don't get it, McCain is the REAL DEAL!!!
Real Leaders Prioritize and I want MY LEADERS in Washington solving this CRISES not meeting with David Letterman or campaigning or "debating" hypothetical issues!!! I want my Leaders to be finding SOLUTIONS for the REAL ISSUES!!!
The Letterman Show and the Debates can be rescheduled; we need to FOCUS ON THE CRISES IN THE ECONOMY NOW!!!
McCain/Palin08
FOR REAL LEADERSHIP
COUNTRY FIRST
Carly your one of the republicans I was referring to.
How does canceling an appearance on Letterman and appearing instead to be interviewed by Couric, then heading to Rachael Ray's show put country first, exactly?
DemBarb:
Actually I have never voted Republican in a Presidential Election; I am one of the MILLIONS of former HILLARY supporters who will NEVER VOTE for OBAMA and who plan to ensure that HE LOOSES the ELECTION for POTUS.
So you and the rest of your OBOT pals who ONLY know how to INSULT people and think that will make them VOTE for OBAMA can just look in the MIRROR and see who will DEFEAT your CANDIDATES.
In case you forgot, this IS STILL A DEMOCRACY and people have a CHOICE!!! Until you create a dictatorship, which I am sure you would be glad to do.....I OWN MY VOTE AND I AM VOTING FOR A REAL LEADER and COURAGEOUS MAN, JOHN MCCAIN for POTUS!!!
NONE OF YOUR INSULTS WILL CHANGE THAT FACT for ME or THE MILLIONS OF OTHERS who may NOT post here but feel exactly as I DO!!!
SO, save your rantings and insults for someone else!!! OBAMA/BIDEN will loose this ELECTION because of people JUST LIKE YOU!!!
McCain/Palin08
Country OVER Party
Hey Carly, I guess the crisis could wait until Katic Couric had her interview finished. So, let me get this straight...Crisis too important so McCain had to miss the evening entertainment show for another evening entertainment show.
Carly in NJ:
Wow, that's some anger you have!!!!!
You say we have choice?
Try pitching that after McCain loads the Supreme Court with those who want to take away yours.
Food for thought.
People like Carly are exactly the ones that cause people to think there should be a 5 question test prior to being allowed to vote!
She was for Hillary but WON'T vote Obama, you may not need to the 40% of the rest of the racist population will take care of it for you!!
Sounds like your harboring some sort perverted attraction to him but you can't let the other big haired NJ girls or guys know about it?????
bs
FISHFART AND JAMES AT LEAST mccain is not a socialist with a radical wife
McCain is an unstable adulterer with a wife who is an addict and stole medicine from kids.
Go play elsewhere with your propaganda and hate filled Bull#$@!
Some of the things McCain does befuddle me.
Some McCain supporters are so blind.
Are you reading the same news reports as I am? Did you see him on camera with Couric or are they lying about the appearance as some big conspiracy to make him look bad?
He said he was suspending his campaign and didn't.
Said he was rushing to the airport and so didn't have time for Letterman. Didn't.
Duh, he LIED people. He could have been truthful said that he changed his mind about Letterman. I'm sorry, it's the last minute..blah..blah..blah.. Didn't.
Instead he used deception.
I don't see how any of you can say that McCain did the "right thing"?
Why can't you just say the guy made a mistake, it was wrong but you still support your candidate???
some osmambama voters are so blind
The show was awesome last night!! When Keith Olbermann told David Letterman that Senator McCain "dissed" him so that he could appear on the nightly news with Katie Couric, you could almost see steam exploding out of the top of David's head!! It was priceless!!
april did you know Keith nasty Olbermamnn was just demoted because of his poor ratings
What are you doing up at 3:07 am Elise.
Go to bed and log back on when your not going to be screaming at empty seats.
Why can't you just say the guy made a mistake, it was wrong but you still support your candidate???
Good point, Maggi. The more posts I read and the more I think about it, the more I agree that he's not doing the right thing. McCain should have cancelled ALL appearances if it was really his intent to suspend his campaign to work on the economic problem. The Straight Talk Express should've gone straight to DC.
why do so many of you continue to make a parody of senator mccains name?
i haven't encountered this since the grade-school playground. i hope you don't think that
this lends credence to your childlike regurgitation of each others narrow minded postings.
You shouldn't use such big words on the grade school playground, we narrowed minded people might not understand the point your trying to make. Are you sure you don't work for the Mc Cain Campaign because this seems like the ploy they ALWAYS use, attacking to keep the focus off the real issues
Disabled Vietnam Vet,
Thank you for your service to our country.
This is the worst election that I can remember as far as name-calling, insults, and disrespect. And that's from supporters on both sides.
I was raised to respect our President, whether we voted for him or not. In the military, I served under a President for whom I did not vote and with whom I did not always agree. However, I had great respect for him as President. I'm afraid much of the general population just doesn't get that. We will continue to see the same types of insults after the election toward whomever wins.
I was raised to respect our President, whether we voted for him or not. In the military, I served under a President for whom I did not vote and with whom I did not always agree. However, I had great respect for him as President
Yes, that way of thinking seems to have gone out the window. I felt the same way as you did, serving under a President that I didn't vote for and whose views were sometimes the polar opposite of my own. But I didn't resort to the name calling that has become so common during this election. This goes above and beyond anything I've seen since I've been voting. I try really hard to stay out of the mudslinging, but every once in a while I'll throw out some comments that I end up regretting.
And BTW, thanks to you, Disabled Vietnam Vet, and anyone else on this thread who has served our country.
disabled vet I know and I agree — ridiculous they are so immature
Didn't you call me fishface? Maturity has different standards for you?
Maybe Letterman will give us a weekly segment of stupid campaign tricks! Any suggestions of what he could include?
Just look at McCains whole campaign. He'll be able to have a weekly segmant for the whole year
On Letterman's fat contract I suppose he only has his ego to worry about unlike the pain his viewers are having to bear in this economic crisis. The inflated egos and salaries of such television presenters are as bad as those on Wall Street. Time for things to change.
The person who is using this economic crisis to try and win the White House is Obama. He wasn't doing so well in the polls until this came along and he could milk it for all it is worth to win votes. No doubt, Bill Clinton told him over their lunch "It's the Economy, stupid" and, wow, all of a sudden Obama becomes interested in the economy just in time. All of the promises Obama has been making to the American people in this campaign are the usual old politician's empty promises which he wasn't going to implement anyway: now he'll use this as his excuse and be able to be seen as innocent. And since he calls people who are not prepared to pay the higher taxes he wants unpatriotic he'll also blame them. He's too busy dreaming about imitating Kennedy on the steps of the Capitol in January to care much about how the ordinary person on Main Street is hurting. Empty words won't fill empty stomachs.
I would think that Obama would have more in common with the ordinary person than McCain. Granted a bunch of the money McCain has comes from his wife but they are MULTI-MILLIONAIRES.
I doubt that Letterman would have made a big deal out of it McCain hadn't lied and said he was hoping on a plane and then Letterman sees McCain getting prepped to be on camera??!!
He lied to him and I get mad too when people lie to me. Don't you?
Janet do some actual research and then come back to debate
go janet!!!!
Yes, Janet. Pay attention to Elise and all her wisdom and go.
Luckydog - I also think McCain looks like he had a stroke!! At first I thought it was just damage from the whole "cancer of the face four times" thing that I hadn't noticed before, but I saw some old footage of him from spring and there is definitely something different about his one eye.
Letterman has good political instincs. He knows what this McCain "suspension" is all about. And he is right to goof on it.
As he said, this is not the McCain he knows.
and another good point he made.....why the hell isn't his VP picking up the slack while he attends to business in DC?? Isn't that what a VP is for...to fill in for him when needed????
Tells you a lot about Palin. A LOT.
This shows what demos think is important, going to hollyweird hanging with the "STARS" (obama's new friend's). Who do you think David Letterman is. He is a nothing, like Barbara Walter's and all of the other Obama a$$ kissers.
DEMOCRAT'S need to be shot in outer space so they can be with their crazy minds-out in space somewhere no thinking.
Why don't you demos get upset that Obama was "watching" over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and look what has happened and you want him looking out for you. Yet, he managed to stuff his campaign with their money, before the collapse. Wonder is this had anything to do with the collapse.
Maybe this was the demos plan so they can get us out of this "mess". Like a demo can do anything for anyone. Clinton comes to mind. (HUGE JOKE)
It would literally take a month or two to jot down all of the democrats screw ups. obama is the largest next to biden. Both are nothing but huge a$$ jokes. I think biden has had a stroke, no one can be that stupid on their own.
If you would notice, John McCain has not went along with Bush on everything.
Unlike Obama, this moment he says this and the next moment he talks out the other side of his stupid mouth. He does this when he answers a question by himself that is the wrong answer. Then his flock of advisor's have to tell him he was wrong and to say what they tell him. Yes, this is just what we need in the White House another puppet democrat that cannot think for himself.
Like all these boards about celebs, we all bash them and talk about how sorry they are and yet here is obama in the middle of hollyweird with the losers. obama needs to get some advise on how to pick some decent friends. Guess decent people don't want to hang with obama. Dont blame them.
They would be in a scandal if they hung around him.
obama dont want to put off the debate for the country and it's economic problems. He want's to show up for the debate alone, this way he can actually, maybe, say one intelligent thing. We will see what happens tomorrow, then you will know where obama's priorities are.
THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY IS NOTHING BUT A VERY VERY LARGE A$$ JOKE AND THE COUNTRY KNOWS IT. (well the ones with a brain knows this).
I think biden has had a stroke, no one can be that stupid on their own.
I try soooo hard to refrain from replying to comments like this in a nasty, mean way, but I just can't help this one.
Sara must have had a stroke, too.
But McCain cancelled Letterman to talk with Couric and then appear on Rachael Ray's program.
That hissing sound is your point being deflated.
What are the specific Obama and Biden screw ups you speak of?
Sara. That is not short for Sarah Palin is it? You write very much like I imagine she would.
If you would listen to numerous reports you might not open mouth and insert your foot. The DEMS? NOT!
If you are the "Sarah" McCain and his campaign are making a total idiot out of you.
It's NOT the media. Yea, they have you thinking that. It's McCain's directives to you that has the media wondering just who and the hell you are.
Thank your John and his nutball campaign advisors.
If this is NOT the "Sarah Palin" I got something off my chest... :)
Can you see Russia from your house?
sara319317
Do you actualy claim to have a brain? IF SO WHERE DID YOU LEAVE IT?
SARA I LOVE IT YOU ARE MY NEW HERO
YES - THE RESULTS OF "TRICKLE DOWN" AND "DEREGULATION" ARE EVIDENT! TRUTH IS - THE LAST 8 YEARS HAVE BEEN "TRICKLE UP" AND REGULATE ONLY THE WORKING AND MIDDLE CLASSES!
ITS FUNNY HOW $700 BILLION IN BAD LOANS JUTIFIES A BUYOUT BY US TAXPAYERS - BUT MUCH MORE THAN THAT HAS BEEN SPENT IN IRAQ (NOT COUNTING THE BLOODSHED) AND HOW WILL THAT AFFECT THE ECONOMY?
I CAN ONLY JUSTIFY MCCAINS 'SUSPENDING HIS CAMPAIGN" IF HE FINDS A SOLUTION THAT WILL NOT COST TAXPAYERS, WILL KEEP HOMEOWNERS IN THEIR HOMES, AND NOT REWARD THE CEOS AND THEIR CLIQUE WHO CAUSED THE MESS. LONG LIVE OBAMA!!! (I'D EVEN VOTE FOR HOWDIE DOODIE RATHER THAN MCCAIN)
DemBarb:

Country OVER Party
I asked this above, perhaps you missed it:
How does canceling an appearance on Letterman and appearing instead to be interviewed by Couric, then heading to Rachael Ray's show put country first, exactly?
Please answer.
If you supported Hillary, why don't you listen to what she is saying now and vote democratic?
Carly,
May I ask a question? I can respect that you've made your decision to support McCain. As you say, this is a Democracy, and you have every right to vote as you choose. Out of respect for your view, I'll keep this post as free of rantings and insults as possible.
Why, ESPECIALLY with Hillary Clinton as an excellent example of women in politics, would you choose to support the McCain/Palin campaign? To be brutally honest, Palin scares the hoolies out of me, and the thought of her so close to the Oval Office makes me shiver.
I understand you may have your differences with Obama, but is his platform so different from your own political views that you'd vote for McCain?
It's what comedy is about, it keeps politicians honest to some degree. Dave did not insult McCain at all, he honestly asked reasonable questions. I've always been a Clinton supporter, and I believe in what President Clinton has to say about Obama. My reason for voting for Obama, is, he's capable of making intelligent decisions, based on his academic background. I feel he'll do his own leg work and follow up on what those he appoints are doing. I don't see him taking a lot of vacation time. I feel he's a leader other World leaders will look up to, and respect. Among the many wrongs Bush has done, it's his arrogance, bully way of disrespecting and insulting all World Leaders...
To: TheJonesGirl
I did not see the Interview on Couric or Rachael Ray; so I will certainly not provide a glib answer here. I will check into the point you are making.
However, I also will not jump to conclusions. When President Clinton was Interviewed this morning by Matt Laur (I did see that Interview), he was asked if he thought McCain's choice to focus on the Crises of the Economy was politically motivated.
Former President Clinton's position was that the Economic Crises has the potential to create dire consequences for the Nation and he would NOT try to score political points by questioning McCain's integrity or motives.
Regarding your question, I WILL honestly check out your points. I think for myself and I will not support an action or statement by an elected official that I disagree with or find less then above board (regardless of Political Party). However, I am not going to totally take David Letterman's word on this situation, I am going to investigate the facts myself.
Our Country is facing a potential disaster and as former President Clinton said this is NOT the time for finger pointing. In this Country, we seem to be so divided over all kinds of issues and there is little or NO respect given to those who think differently then we do.
It is not helpful to berate and insult others because they offer a different point of view. Our Democracy will not long survive if we are unable to come together when we face a serious threat to our Country.
Today, Obama and McCain are at the White-house meeting with other Leaders to find a solution to this serious fiscal crises. Perhaps we need to find a way to allow that process to take place without all of the rancor, accusations and recriminations. Let's hope we find a way to do that together!!
Carly:
That was a better post and worthy of respect. Thanks.
Carly, the facts are there...McCain was taping wth Couric as Olbermann was sitting with Letterman.
Where did I berate and insult you?
I too am a huge fan of Hillary. I too swore that I would never vote for Obama, and would vote for McCain instead when Hillary lost the nom.
Then McCain selected Palin for VP, and I ran screamingly back to the democratic ticket.
Please, I ask all of you Hillary fans, think carefully about your vote. Whether you like Obama or not, think about which candidate most closely resembles your own ideals and principals.
Carly - McCain's a buffoon. Sorry to break it to you.
CARLY YOU ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING AND T-BONE STEAK LET HER MAKE THE DECESION
Wow Elise:
I'm surprised you managed to find the caps lock key through the haze of the drunken stupor your in.
I just hope that they took care of what they needed to sign or pass today... so that we can have the debates tomorrow!! I heard that Obama refused to cancel them, so I hope they are on. I really want to hear what they have to say.
Maybe Obama can turn it into a giant city hall meeting, taking and answering questions from the crowd, and proving he can handle forign policy and the economy (like the economy won't come up :D).
Come to think of it, this may HELP Obama rather than hurt. Either way, just like the Palin pick, he's scaring of the Independents he needs to win the election.
Rob
You are right..... Dave said that this was not the McCain he knows. If you have ever watched Letterman, then you know he has great respect for our service men and women. When i comes to politics... yeah Dave can joke around, but he can also be quite serious. I believe McCain's decision to cancel was a terrible choice. Dave was disappointed as much, if not more, than his supporters.
(sarcasm) OMFG! How dare David Letterman blast a war hero and former POW! Is nothing sacred to this America hating Commie? (/sarcasm)
Why are we suppose to walk on eggs around McCain and are not permitted to even joke (which has absolutely NOTHING to do with McCain/POW. Why are we suppose to walk on eggs around Palin and are not permitted to approach her like she's a cotton ball on a weed. This is absolutely ridiculous. McCain can step on ANYONE he pleases anytime, anywhere and treat people with NO respect. People have feelings too. McCain has been attacking people at the drop of a pin and telling them off wayyy before he went to war and shortly after and continues. McCain behaves like a juvenile. We have all seen his biography. Overboard, overboard, overboard!
I get angry when I think about how McCain was tortured, beaten, starved, and left for dead. I respect McCain for his loyalty to the American people. Now, that being said I am tired of people using his POW years as a defense. I watched David Letterman last night. He spent 10 minutes talking about McCain and repeated what McCain endeavored in Vietnam. Letterman KNOWS McCain. They are friendly. Perhaps you need to get over it. He did not Insult McCain he was funny. He was NOT laughing at McCain. Letterman's sarcasm had nothing to do with McCain being a POW. Lighten up...Whats up with "Commie." FGS...
If McCain wants to be President of the United States he wants to be prepared for many, many personalities, reactions and drawbacks. Whats he going to do, just blow them away.
Why are we suppose to walk on eggs around McCain and are not permitted to even joke (which has absolutely NOTHING to do with McCain/POW. Why are we suppose to walk on eggs around Palin and are not permitted to approach her like she's a cotton ball on a weed
If McCain ever does show up for a debate, Obama should hire someone to make a loud bang just off stage.
Incoming!!!!!!!
