McCready to serve 60 days for probation violation

FRANKLIN — Country singer Mindy McCready will surrender to authorities Tuesday to begin serving a 60-day sentence for violating her probation on a 2004 drug charge.

McCready's deal with Williamson County prosecutors was announced Monday by her attorney, Lee Ofman.

The 32-year-old singer was accused in June of falsifying her community service records and charged with violating her probation.

"I am working very hard to put all of this behind me as quickly as possible so I can get back to what I love to do most: sing, write songs and entertain," McCready said in a statement. "I would like to thank my fans for their unwavering support as I continue to work on my recovery and to regain custody of my precious son, Zander."

McCready received a suspended three-year sentence in 2004 for fraudulently obtaining prescription painkillers.

In July 2007, she was accused of scuffling with her mother and resisting arrest at her mother's home in Fort Myers, Fla. She was sentenced to prison for the probation violation and released last December.

McCready had a No. 1 single in 1996 with "Guys Do It All the Time," but was dropped from her record label after lackluster sales. She has been dogged by legal and personal problems in recent years.
