Bid of $1.75 on eBay gets abandoned Saginaw home

SAGINAW — With a winning bid of just $1.75, a Chicago woman has won an auction for an abandoned home in Saginaw. Joanne Smith, 30, recently was the top bidder for the home during an auction on eBay, The Saginaw News reported. Her bid was one of eight for the home.

"I am going to try and sell it," she told the newspaper. "I don't have any plans to move to Saginaw."

Smith said she hasn't seen the property or visited Saginaw, which has been hard-hit by economic troubles in recent years.

There's a notice on the door of the home saying a foreclosure hearing is pending, the newspaper said. She must pay about $850 in back taxes and yard cleanup costs.

The Saginaw News said it could not reach the seller, Southern Investments LLC, for comment.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

What a bargain! If that property was in southern California, the owner would be able to go on over to the nearby Home Depot and have their choice from among 20-50 illegal aliens that can be found gathered in the parking lot looking for odd jobs. That would make the bargain complete. Cheap house and cheap labor. If the new owner can't find them in the parking lot, just try looking in the neighborhood adjacent to the Home Depot, the illegals are probably just hiding from the police that simply drive by. If they aren't hiding it's probably lunch time for them, which means time to buy beer and start urinating behind trash cans and hanging out by the convenience stations. Gotta love it.

Obviously I am way off topic here, just couldn't help myself.

hasnt anyone heard of min bid prices and such?
and msm needs to et on the ball with this whole net thing.
this article could link the ebay auction.
heck it could link the article it got the info from rather than the front page.
a picture of the house would be nice. and a bit more info. You know she could end up losing money on this depending on the condition and local laws.
Neato cool article.. designed to make us all salivate but woahfully weak on the details, which always makes red flags fly out of my head.
Yeah sure it looks like a giant chocolate bunny but i bet it is hollow.

I'd be willing to double her offer!  Then if she were to accept it, I guarantee you would read about a tornado that came out of nowhere, lifted the house off the foundation (if it has one) and slammed it into a school bus.  Which of course I would be found liable for and have an outrageous lawsuit.
