Is not Gov. Palin married to one of the leaders in the effort-group advocating that the state of Alaska Remove itself as a part of these United States? I think we should play the guilt by association game - lets have at it:

1)  Palin's husband was a member of an alaskan political party that called for succession from the US.

2)  McCain was a member of an ultra right wing organization Called the US Council for World Freedom that was labeled as a gathering forum for "extremists, Racists and Anti-Semites" (sorry Israel - McCain might not totally dig you after all)

3)  McCain was admonished by the Senate for being in bed with Charles Keating of Lincoln Savings and Loan fame - another banking mess that I am sure McCain saw coming and tried to stop but cost the taxpayers a lot of money.

4)  Cindy McCain had investments in Sudan and was making money off a country that has been widely condemed for the mass genocide that has cause hundreds of thousands of people to be slaughtered.

5)  John McCain's campaign manager was receiving consulting fees from Freddie and Fannie until this last August.  His roll was to hold off government interference and regulation.  The only reason the payments stopped was become the government had to take both companies over and they cut that expense.

This is fun - shall we keep playing?  Anyone want to check to see how tight McCain was with Abramoff or should we just leave that hot mess of scandal alone?

And, finally...No! Three Democrats (Cranston, DeConcini, Riegle) were reprimanded, one Democrat (Glenn) was exonerated, and the only Republican (McCain) was exonerated. Keating went to jail! In fact, the Special Counsel (Bennett, who later became Clinton's lawyer) to the Ethics Panel investigation said he found nothing during the investigation to impugn McCain's integrity.

It now appears we know the real reason Sarah Palin was brought on board. Not to get the women's vote, but rather to shore up and excite the redneck racist wing, the base, of the GOP. Many of the  racist redneck evangelicals were not happy with McCain, but now with Sarah's wink wink at racism they feel much better knowing one of their own is on the ticket. She was brought on board to secure the scum vote.

Palin was selected as the VP candidate to pander to the necon and religious right part of the party.  When James Dobson and Ann Coulter whined about McCain not being conservative enough, it was obvious that someone from the Republican radical right wing would be McCain's running mate.

Dave - McCain was not exonerated by the Senate Ethics Committee, he was criticized for poor judgment.  This does not negate his having taken Keating's campaign contributions, the travel and vacations that the McCains took at Keating's expense, Cindy's shopping center dealings with Keating, or McCain's going to the feds to get them to lay off. 

These racist overtones of Palin's latest canned speech are nothing compared to what a Republican member a McCain campaign leadership committee has done:

This is just further proof that the McCain/Palin ticket has no substantive arguments against Obama's platform.    Since they cannot justify their own stance on the real issues facing our country, or come up with any factual criticism of the Dem's plans - they have to resort to name-calling and false innuendo about Obama's past to try and win votes.

They are desperate - and it shows.  Even their own supporters are turning away because of it.  

No one wants to hear all this crap.  We want to hear about the issues that matter to US - the economy, healthcare, the war, alternative energy, government corruption, the environment, etc.  

The more McCain and Palin attack Obama instead of addressing the issues, the more they show just how shallow and ill-equipped to lead they truly are.

The only way that McCain has a chance to win is if he gets out the racist vote, especially in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Based upon issues and common sense he has no chance to win. This has been true from the beginning.

Getting 50 to 100 miles per gallon on the cars we drive, sustainable energy use and development of more affordable and dependable alternatives, getting 2/3 of America back on the Health Care rolls (Verses letting them die of treatable diseases or suffering from illness that is treatable/cureable, but costs too much money!), getting our national debt under control and an effective way to pay it down!  I care about these real issues that will haunt us for the next 20 years or more!  Getting our troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan!  Negotiating with Russia, Iran, North Korea, North Vietnam and other countries that have lost their respect and faith with America!  I don't want a leader that is going to drag us into a global war, I want a leader that will show respect and sit and speak with these leaders.  Former Presidents Nixon and Carter showed that the leaders of other countries want the same thing, they want to be respected and engaged as leaders, not snubbed and looked-down upon; just because America is a Super-power, doesn't mean we don't have compasion!

Stick to the REAL issues and let's discuss how they differ and how they will help America out of our serious mess!  I just don't see McSame and Palin able to speak to these!

B)      Obama also talks about "restoring fairness to the economy," code for soaking the "rich"

C)      Obama makes it sound smart and tries to smuggle his socialism / collectivist garbage by the uniformed. He's disguising the wealth transfers as "investments" — "to make America more competitive," he says, or "that give us a fighting chance," ????????.

"Universal," "guaranteed" health care. "Free" college tuition. "Universal national service" (a la Havana).

I saw an interview of one of their top leaders a week or so ago on BBC,  Hu Jintao i think is his name, where he openly stated that it was They who twisted the arm of the Bush Admin behind the scenes to start bailing out our financial houses, even before the 700 bn bailout. So as to protect Chinese investments in Wall St & our financial sector.

Therefore, China is already flexing their economic dominance/mastery over us, & most of us are clueless to that Reality.

Perhaps I set the bar too low for Sarah Palin given her limited media exposure.  I was glad to see she could actually put nouns and verbs together during the debate.   Tactfully, she was supreme and on point.  I could see her appeal - I’m sure she’s a great “hockey mom”; Alaska seems to embrace her, so I’m sure she’s a great Governor; certainly… is she likeable and smart.  I respect her achievements and all women should be proud of her but, not all Americans grow up Mayberry, the state she governs is less than one tenth the size of the city in which I live. The notion that she is the face our nation is ridiculous.  The only real direction she suggested was the expansion of her executive position.  What is all that about?  Would I be too naïve to think she might just want a tiara?  Really, she needs to go back to Alaska, be a great Governor and active mother - beyond that, she’s McCains “bobblehead”  and I’m sorry she doesn’t see that.

Now that the debates are over, “Ms. Barracuda” is on the Obama attack.  Shame on her to stoop that low, it is not dignified, it’s downright disgraceful.  What kind of message is she teaching her children?  I suppose it would be too much to ask about her involvement in “Troopergate” and why she wants to stop the investigative process, to acknowledge McCain was part of the Keating 5.  There are even declassified documents that appear to suggest that the then Lt. John McCain provided much more than his name and serial number as a POW.  Now, honestly, I have overlooked many of these issues because the legitimacy of them.  That does not mean to suggest that we should discount the importance of a thorough “background check”.  I had thought the country had moved on since all these smears have already been hashed over and debunked.  Furthermore, I’m appalled at some of the media refocus of these issues and not the real issues that face Americans today!  I cannot believe the “Jerry Springer” mentality of the republican party.

Additionally, I cannot see how one person's actions can be used negatively towards another person especially when those actions were not endorsed, and in fact condemned, by the second person. I also do not understand how Obama can possibly control things that happened when he was 8 years old..!

I talked recently with a person in business on a project and the first thing he said to me was he had a very old checkered past. He told me what he did I laughed and we did what I had came for. We met several times and completed the project. Once as we were meeting he said that he mentioned that because he did not want me to find out somewhere else. I told him it did not matter and we parted ways.

"Blame-America-first"?  Why do republicans feel the need to attach this label to anyone who believes America undermines its credibility by ignoring its role in creating some of the problems it is attempting to solve.  Have you ever tried to resolve a conflict with someone who accepts no responsibility for their actions?  It's impossible.  At best you end up agreeing to disagree.

"Harvard elitist"?  This is a pathetic attempt by republicans to turn a huge positive into a negative.  When did being educated disqualify someone for the world's highest office?  By definition, anyone who graduated from Harvard is part of an elite group (i.e., select few) and, as previously pointed out, this includes many republicans.  The term elitist, however, has a purposely negative connotation and implies that Obama believes power should be concentrated in the hands of the elite few.  By definition, every voter and candidate in a federal election subscribes to this theory.  According to the US Census Bureau, there are roughly 305 million Americans who are governed by roughly 514 federally elected officials. That's nearly one official for every 600,000 people.  How's that for a concentration of power?

"Snob"?  All my life, I've been listening to the republicans tell struggling Americans to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and turning their noses up at the down trodden.  How ironic is it that you are now labeling someone who has overcome so much adversity a snob.  Meanwhile, your candidate has more homes and cars than he can count, and wouldn't even include anyone with income of less than $5 million among the rich.

Obama's "cling to their guns and religion" comment was clearly a reference to the hot button issues along which party lines have been sharply divided, and the attempts by the republicans to exploit those concerns time and time again--especially in rural areas.

Underdog, thanks for opening up that can of "Get With You" on Nathan.  The very fact he can deny that Palin's comment was thinly-veiled racism already goes to prove you're having a battle of wits with an unarmed combatant.  Again, the repugnantcan party has resorted to the "Attack the Other Guy" strategy, but I believe that, unlike 2000 & 2004, the American people have had enough of this nonsense. 

Look, I watched Obama's speech in Berlin, and I was embarrassed for him.  He doesn't speak for me when he apologizes for America.  We're not perfect, but you don't air your laundry outside the family.  It was classless. 

And from the way he treats people when he thinks the cameras are off... I think he's kind of a jerk.  But that's just my impression of him. 

Okay, so forget he's from Harvard.  He's still a snob.  Forget the punditry... let me speak for myself here: he is not like ME in so many ways that have nothing to do with his skin color.  He doesn't see the world like I see it, he doesn't see America like I see it, so I'm not going to vote for him.  I don't care how much he promises to make all my dreams come true. 

He attended an America-hating church for 20 years and didn't know about how his pastor really felt?  How is that a display of good judgment.  And regardless of how close he is (or isn't) to Bill Ayers the terrorist, Obama hasn't exactly tried to distance himself from him... especially when Ayers helped launch Obama's IL campaign.  Bad judgment.  He said that when Russia invaded Georgia, that we should let the UN handle it.  Guess who's on the UN Security Council?  Russia.  Bad Judgment.  He'd legitimize Ahmadinejad's destroy-Israel rhetoric by meeting with him face to face with no preconditions.  Bad judgement. 

That's what happens when you don't travel or at least have curiosity about other cultures.

I Disagree 100%. I have traveled a bit also, living the last two and half years in South America and Europe and in my experience the last 7.5 years of Bush's polices and the direction the US has taken have been bad enough and long enough to sway A LOT of people.

7.5 years is a whole generation!

15 year olds who were just learning about the world have learned only bad things about the US until now when they are 23 years old. These are the people that make the future of the world and these are the people that will count in shaping America's leadership ability on the world stage. Remember that the US can only lead if the rest of the world follows, and right now not many people are interested in following in the footsteps of the US.

I dont know what kind of mother would want to expose her children to politicking ALL OF THE TIME.  If you care about that baby´s welfare, you would most likely keep him at home, happy and rested. 

I do miss Jackie Kennedy protecting her kids exposure.  She was very careful about that so she could rear them as normally as she could.

Why are you and so many other republicans pretending that you are concerned about Obama's "ties" to radicals?  Do you really imagine a world in which there are politicians who are not acquainted with any shady or radical individuals?  Do you really believe neither John McCain and Sarah Palin have ever attended a fundraiser attended or held by people who held overtly racist views?  Do you really think Sarah Palin has not rubbed elbows with some extremely anti-American Alaskans?  Are you not aware that John McCain gave interviews in which he acknowledged that he himself (not his wife or pastor) made comments that could be considered anti-American or unpatriotic?

No reasonable person believes you give two sh!ts about any of these flimsy associations to which you and other republicans keep alluding.  You know how hard it will be for many white voters, especially older white voters, to look beyond race.  This is nothing more than a desperate attempt to make white voters who are giving him serious consideration to second guess themselves.  You're trying to give them an excuse for voting against their own self-interests in good conscience.

Hockey moms actually ATTEND their children's games.  Her son was shipped out to Michigan for a year and Sarah never once went out there to visit. 

I have been a volleyball mom, a basketball mom and now a band mom.......I had never missed a game or performance since my daughter was in the 3rd grade.......the night of the 1st presidential debate......was the homecoming game........I ended up staying home to watch the debate......although my daughter didnt seem to mind.......I feel like such a schmuck for missing it.

Obama didn't serve on Ayers board, they both served on an anti-poverty board - the Woods Fund of Chicago. There's no indication that they were ever friends or close.

And there is a rabbi in Chicago who claims to have thrown the first political party for Obama. Not Ayers.

If you're going to state "facts" at least get them right. Hard to make correct decisions on exaggerations and lies.

It's guilt by association to say Ayers "palled around" with Obama because the two attended the same legitiate charity.  Might as well say Palin went to a secetionist convention of which her husban is a member and so supports Alaska breaking away from the U.S.  That's a heck of a lot closer than Obama's in both realtionship and time since Palin gave a speech at the secetionist convention in 2006. Should we dig out our photos of Rumsfield shaking hands with Saddam Hussein, and then a photo of Rumsfield talking to McCain ans say a secret message was being passe from Saddam to McCain?  The Republican right has gone totally bonkers.  Even their star quarterback Rove says Obama will win.

Chargerguy and all others who want to waste time on Obama's past acquaintances, colleagues and associates:

Do you want to have a decent job and a home and food on your table? Do you want your country to be at peace? Do you want your children to be able to get a college education? Do you want to be able to see a doctor and receive quality healthcare when you need it? Do you want the U.S. to free itself from the hooks of Mideast oil so we can breathe easier? Do you want the polar ice cap to stop melting?

These are the issues that matter, not Ayers or Wright or any of the other distractions being thrown across the road by McCain's strategists. Can you not see that the Ayers discussion is nothing more than a gnat in your eye purposely placed to blind you to the fact that all McCain/Palin can do is try to run down Obama because they have no solutions for you and your country?
