By claiming that Democrat Barack Obama is "palling around with terrorists" and doesn't see the U.S. like other Americans, vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin targeted key goals for a faltering campaign.
And though she may have scored a political hit each time, her attack was unsubstantiated and carried a racially tinged subtext that John McCain himself may come to regret.
First, Palin's attack shows that her energetic debate with rival Joe Biden may be just the beginning, not the end, of a sharpened role in the battle to win the presidency.
"Our opponent ... is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect, imperfect enough, that he's palling around with terrorists who would target their own country," Palin told a group of donors in Englewood, Colo. A deliberate attempt to smear Obama, McCain's ticket-mate echoed the line at three separate events Saturday.
"This is not a man who sees America like you and I see America," she said. "We see America as a force of good in this world. We see an America of exceptionalism."
Obama isn't above attacking McCain's character with loaded words, releasing an ad on Sunday that calls the Arizona Republican "erratic" — a hard-to miss suggestion that McCain's age, 72, might be an issue.
"Our financial system in turmoil," an announcer says in Obama's new ad. "And John McCain? Erratic in a crisis. Out of touch on the economy."
A harsh and plainly partisan judgment, certainly, but not on the level of suggesting that a fellow senator is un-American and even a friend of terrorists.
In her character attack, Palin questions Obama's association with William Ayers, a member of the Vietnam-era Weather Underground. Her reference was exaggerated at best if not outright false. No evidence shows they were "pals" or even close when they worked on community boards years ago and Ayers hosted a political event for Obama early in his career.
Obama, who was a child when the Weathermen were planting bombs, has denounced Ayers' radical views and actions.
With her criticism, Palin is taking on the running mate's traditional role of attacker, said Rich Galen, a Republican strategist.
"There appears to be a newfound sense of confidence in Sarah Palin as a candidate, given her performance the other night," Galen said. "I think that they are comfortable enough with her now that she's got the standing with the electorate to take off after Obama."
Second, Palin's incendiary charge draws media and voter attention away from the worsening economy. It also comes after McCain supported a pork-laden Wall Street bailout plan in spite of conservative anger and his own misgivings.
"It's a giant changing of the subject," said Jenny Backus, a Democratic strategist. "The problem is the messenger. If you want to start throwing fire bombs, you don't send out the fluffy bunny to do it. I think people don't take Sarah Palin seriously."
The larger purpose behind Palin's broadside is to reintroduce the question of Obama's associations. Millions of voters, many of them open to being swayed to one side or the other, are starting to pay attention to an election a month away.
For the McCain campaign, that makes Obama's ties to Ayers as well as convicted felon Antoin "Tony" Rezko and the controversial minister Jeremiah Wright ripe for renewed criticism. And Palin brings a fresh voice to the argument.
Effective character attacks have come earlier in campaigns. In June 1988, Republican George H.W. Bush criticized Democrat Michael Dukakis over the furlough granted to Willie Horton, a convicted murderer who then raped a woman and stabbed her companion. Related TV ads followed in September and October.
The Vietnam-era Swift Boat veterans who attacked Democrat John Kerry's war record started in the spring of 2004 and gained traction in late summer.
"The four weeks that are left are an eternity. There's plenty of time in the campaign," said Republican strategist Joe Gaylord. "I think it is a legitimate strategy to talk about Obama and to talk about his background and who he pals around with."
Palin's words avoid repulsing voters with overt racism. But is there another subtext for creating the false image of a black presidential nominee "palling around" with terrorists while assuring a predominantly white audience that he doesn't see their America?
In a post-Sept. 11 America, terrorists are envisioned as dark-skinned radical Muslims, not the homegrown anarchists of Ayers' day 40 years ago. With Obama a relative unknown when he began his campaign, the Internet hummed with false e-mails about ties to radical Islam of a foreign-born candidate.
Whether intended or not by the McCain campaign, portraying Obama as "not like us" is another potential appeal to racism. It suggests that the Hawaiian-born Christian is, at heart, un-American.
The fact is that when racism creeps into the discussion, it serves a purpose for McCain. As the fallout from Wright's sermons showed earlier this year, forcing Obama to abandon issues to talk about race leads to unresolved arguments about America's promise to treat all people equally.
John McCain occasionally says he looks back on decisions with regret. He has apologized for opposing a holiday to honor Martin Luther King Jr. He has apologized for refusing to call for the removal of a Confederate flag from South Carolina's Capitol.
When the 2008 campaign is over will McCain say he regrets appeals such as Palin's? ___
EDITOR'S NOTE — Douglass K. Daniel is a writer and editor with the Washington bureau of The Associated Press.
Palin, not having read any newspapers until last week when Couric pulled the "gotcha" question "Which newspapers did you read before the nomination?" probably didn't know that the Bill Ayers story was debunked way back in February.
This woman has no conscience, no moral compass, and a snide, sneering kind of superiority reverse elitism complex. Her ambition has cost her the respect of her own grown children, who seem hell bent on NOT doing her bidding, and now she's working on losing the respect of the entire nation with her lies.
Is not Gov. Palin married to one of the leaders in the effort-group advocating that the state of Alaska Remove itself as a part of these United States? Is that not a crime of terrorism, traitor-type-overthrow of government-type crime? Wasn't she a member of that group? Is not McCain an old member of some group that was sanctioned as anti-jewish. AND don't orget The Keating-5 (all went to jail but McCain)
[Oh, it will appeal to racists looking for cover, but, they just want to win.]
Bill Ayers story
remains questionable.
While there is no proof either way.
yeah BOR and you might have killed kennedy..ther is no proof either way.
I think we should play the guilt by association game - lets have at it:
1) Palin's husband was a member of an alaskan political party that called for succession from the US.
2) McCain was a member of an ultra right wing organization Called the US Council for World Freedom that was labeled as a gathering forum for "extremists, Racists and Anti-Semites" (sorry Israel - McCain might not totally dig you after all)
3) McCain was admonished by the Senate for being in bed with Charles Keating of Lincoln Savings and Loan fame - another banking mess that I am sure McCain saw coming and tried to stop but cost the taxpayers a lot of money.
4) Cindy McCain had investments in Sudan and was making money off a country that has been widely condemed for the mass genocide that has cause hundreds of thousands of people to be slaughtered.
5) John McCain's campaign manager was receiving consulting fees from Freddie and Fannie until this last August. His roll was to hold off government interference and regulation. The only reason the payments stopped was become the government had to take both companies over and they cut that expense.
This is fun - shall we keep playing? Anyone want to check to see how tight McCain was with Abramoff or should we just leave that hot mess of scandal alone?
C'mon, BOR, you think an 8 year old kid who wasn't anywhere around helped out in terrorist bombings? Maybe he used a time machine to travel back and set it all up! By that logic GW Bush is responsible for 9/11 because he knows the BinLaden family. Give it a break.
Bill Ayers story
remains questionable.
While there is no proof either way.
Sure...in 1968 when Ayres was arrested, Obama was only 7 years old, born August 4, 1961.
LOL... no proof?
Now that Ayers is currently a Distinguished Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, I guess every student at that University is a Terrorist.. Sorry, but it's just so stupid to make any connection to Obama as a terrorist. So very Stupid. But the Republicans don't seem to have any sense of shame or honor anymore. How about McCain being Brainwashed by the Russians for five years as a POW? Maybe he's the Manchurian Caudate? Just as absurd? Perhaps?
Right, And as I recall, it was Palin that asked Biden to not look at the past. Well, say it ain't so SMOE six pack, there you go spouting lies again. Wink ; )
This woman has no conscience, no moral compass, and a snide, sneering kind of superiority reverse elitism complex.
Interesting term...what is a "superiority reverse elitism complex", anyway?
Wait, I think I figured it out:
Elitism, restricting powers and privileges in a society to members of one small, favored group, and the belief that this arrangement is justified by their superiority.
So, does reverse elitism mean not restricting powers and privileges to one small, favored group with a superior vision for society and government? Hmmm...isn't that a principle upon which this country was founded?
Is not Gov. Palin married to one of the leaders in the effort-group advocating that the state of Alaska Remove itself as a part of these United States?
Uh....No!
Is that not a crime of terrorism, traitor-type-overthrow of government-type crime?
Uh...No!
Wasn't she a member of that group?
Uh...No!
AND don't orget The Keating-5 (all went to jail but McCain)
And, finally...No! Three Democrats (Cranston, DeConcini, Riegle) were reprimanded, one Democrat (Glenn) was exonerated, and the only Republican (McCain) was exonerated. Keating went to jail! In fact, the Special Counsel (Bennett, who later became Clinton's lawyer) to the Ethics Panel investigation said he found nothing during the investigation to impugn McCain's integrity.
It now appears we know the real reason Sarah Palin was brought on board. Not to get the women's vote, but rather to shore up and excite the redneck racist wing, the base, of the GOP. Many of the racist redneck evangelicals were not happy with McCain, but now with Sarah's wink wink at racism they feel much better knowing one of their own is on the ticket. She was brought on board to secure the scum vote.
Palin was selected as the VP candidate to pander to the necon and religious right part of the party. When James Dobson and Ann Coulter whined about McCain not being conservative enough, it was obvious that someone from the Republican radical right wing would be McCain's running mate.
Oh yeah, that is believable that she never read a paper... you guys are idiots. She CHOSE not to disclose names because you people turn it into fodder!
Ayers = TRUTH About UHBAMA, your fearless messiah is another slick talkin' lawyer... you people have been rope a doped!
Dave - McCain was not exonerated by the Senate Ethics Committee, he was criticized for poor judgment. This does not negate his having taken Keating's campaign contributions, the travel and vacations that the McCains took at Keating's expense, Cindy's shopping center dealings with Keating, or McCain's going to the feds to get them to lay off.
These racist overtones of Palin's latest canned speech are nothing compared to what a Republican member a McCain campaign leadership committee has done:
Racist act by McCain campaign "leader" must be repudiated
The McCain campaign should smarten up and stop the race baiting or, as the article above states, it may backfire. I fear as McCain gets more desperate, he and his cohorts will only get uglier, sleazier and even more untruthful.
This is just further proof that the McCain/Palin ticket has no substantive arguments against Obama's platform. Since they cannot justify their own stance on the real issues facing our country, or come up with any factual criticism of the Dem's plans - they have to resort to name-calling and false innuendo about Obama's past to try and win votes.
They are desperate - and it shows. Even their own supporters are turning away because of it.
No one wants to hear all this crap. We want to hear about the issues that matter to US - the economy, healthcare, the war, alternative energy, government corruption, the environment, etc.
The more McCain and Palin attack Obama instead of addressing the issues, the more they show just how shallow and ill-equipped to lead they truly are.
Oh yeah, that is believable that she never read a paper... you guys are idiots. She CHOSE not to disclose names because you people turn it into fodder!
And if you believe Sarah, then I have a bridge in Alaska to sell you.
I heard Willie Horton can pilot a swift boat.
So desperate.
The only way that McCain has a chance to win is if he gets out the racist vote, especially in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Based upon issues and common sense he has no chance to win. This has been true from the beginning.
All Obama has to do is call him on his desperation. When McCain starts to talk about Ayers, Obama just needs to say "why aren't you talking about the economy, John?...could it be because you've supported the deregulation and corporate tax breaks that led to this mess?"...
The word is DESPERATE. Hang it on McCain in big, bold letters Obama.
grrgto:
CHOSE???? you are kidding right? Is this like a child, "no I am not going to tell you, so there."
She does not make any choices. Period. She is told what to do, who to talk with, when to shut up. This whole thing on Ayers, this is part of the play book. McCain can keep his hands clean and not look like the attack dog.
Even at the debate, she kept looking down at her notes. She had a list of catch phrases, like "say it ain't so Joe"
And Dave, yes McCain's hands are dirty with the Keating-5, not surprised he weaseled his way out. He has no integrity.
Both Cindy McCain and her father made money off of the Keating-5 investments.
Oh yeah, that is believable that she never read a paper... you guys are idiots. She CHOSE not to disclose names because you people turn it into fodder!
She made it up after the fact just like all pathological liars are known to do. Just ask any detective.
She doesn't read and when caught on it, Makes up a lie. She doesn't know what The Bush Doctrine is so she bluffs her way through it batting her eyes at Charlie Gibson. We did not see her do that because they edited her winking at him out.
She took the money to build her Bridge to Nowhere and her statement "Thanks but no thanks" is a lie
I could go on an on but I'll just leave you with this, She could charm the scales off a Pit Viper at forty paces. She is Joey Tribiani dressed up in Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader Drag and America is falling for it. She really is the Kelly Bundy and someone wants to put her next to Nu-Ku-Lar missiles.
Of course, if you want to see America go deeper in debt just go right ahead and vote for her because as soon as McCain can't perform his duties, god forbid, She'll have us a in a full scale shooting war with China and Russia in no time. Before we get to that point, tho, She will, with her EXPANDED VP Powers have us involved in an african genocide in no time.
I am Jeremiah Johnson and I think a vote for Sarah Palin will do wonders for Wall Street's Jack-Booted-Bankers so we should do everything we can to feed the starving bankers of America this Christmas when their heating bills and electric bills come due and they can not pay them and they default on their home loans... after all. Jack-Booted-Bankers are people, too.
No one wants to hear all this crap. We want to hear about the issues that matter to US - the economy, healthcare, the war, alternative energy, government corruption, the environment, etc.
Maureen hit the nail on the head, so to speak. I don't care about who Senator Obama was "palling around" with when he was under 20 years old! I don't care about his pastor and the "evil-speak" that he is accused of! Racism and racist remarks are Hate Crimes and we have NO ROOM at the INN for that nonsense!!!
Getting 50 to 100 miles per gallon on the cars we drive, sustainable energy use and development of more affordable and dependable alternatives, getting 2/3 of America back on the Health Care rolls (Verses letting them die of treatable diseases or suffering from illness that is treatable/cureable, but costs too much money!), getting our national debt under control and an effective way to pay it down! I care about these real issues that will haunt us for the next 20 years or more! Getting our troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan! Negotiating with Russia, Iran, North Korea, North Vietnam and other countries that have lost their respect and faith with America! I don't want a leader that is going to drag us into a global war, I want a leader that will show respect and sit and speak with these leaders. Former Presidents Nixon and Carter showed that the leaders of other countries want the same thing, they want to be respected and engaged as leaders, not snubbed and looked-down upon; just because America is a Super-power, doesn't mean we don't have compasion!
Stick to the REAL issues and let's discuss how they differ and how they will help America out of our serious mess! I just don't see McSame and Palin able to speak to these!
OK, enough is enough...
If it's associations that Grandpa McCain wants then it's associations he gets!
McCain = Keating 5.
There, it's done. There is no question about this association, no needing to probe what went on, it's all a matter of congressional record.
Bailing out is something John McCain knows plenty about, that was his role as a member of the Keating 5. He took money from Keating in exchange for derailing an investigation into the entire affair that costed ordinary Americans billions of their own hard earned dollars.
The current economic delimma is just icing on the cake, John McCain simply cannot be trusted any longer. He and his campaign spout nothing but lies that are regularly being debunked on the evening news. Sarah Palin is just driving nails in his proverbial casket!
I think the gop is extremely desperate which explains the unstable behavior of the past several months. This type of loose cannon thinking is not what the American People need right now....
The selfessness and greed of mccain ; his deregulation his anlienation of both parties is just another diversion to keep off message...
Country First is the slogan "me first " is the platform...very un heroic behavior, sham on you mccain, palin is a desperate scary pawn she would turn on him in a minute and looks like she has thrown him under the bus and is looking toward running in 20012.. sad, sad, state of affairs. mccain does not have Americans best interests before his own...desperate man=desperate results...
She does not read papers, she reads the experts that are given to her to catch up on. Just like she still has not really invested any time in meeting with foreign leaders.
She played photo tag with a key list of a few leaders. Smile and click. She meet with Kissinger, just so she could use it in the debate. So you spend a couple minutes with someone and you suddenly know what they are thinking? You read an article or two out of a few samples of newspapers, and you are now versed in ALL periodicals?
"Republican (McCain) was exonerated"
You call being censured in the Senate Exonerated??
McCain and ishandlers are so desperate now that they will play the race card and any other form of dirt, sleaze or slime which they think will help them win.
studiusbagus,
Cindy & daddy made money off of the S&L
Barbara Bush (Georgie's momma) made money off off the WTC. (she had insurance- I believe there are folks down in New Orleans still waiting on theirs)
What deeply concerns me is a presidential candidate with no real experience sitting in a church of an extreme racist and taking all that in along with ties (On the same board and possibly nominated by Ayers for 3 years) to William Ayers and Bernindine Dorhn. And move on dot org calling the shots. These people who ha te America.
And if your response is he has disavowed them do you remember David Duke quit going to clan meetings do you think it meant anything when he disavowed them. He is the farthest left politician you could have picked, and is slithering to the center as fast as he can. Soon you will call him conservative. You did not choose wisely if you had (with the dislike of Bush) it would not be close as it is now!
Ayers, Wright, Bradley effect you will need 15 points to win!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He disavowed Ayers and Wright? Sure he did!!!
Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it"
Adolf Hitler (paraphrased)
If you were in a wreck and needed immediate medical care, would it matter to you what color the doctor is as long as the doctor had been trained, intelligence enough to access the situation and plan treatment to save your life? America is on life support needing the best care that she can get and we have a political party more concern with character assassination because they have no legitimate plans for moving the country forward on their own.
Ideejeinnc
Excellent analogy...... just wonderful!
There are some people who refuse to let go of the past and join the rest of is in the 21st century. Race, class, and gender are relative terms that engender personal feelings from all of us however, we must not allow our personal feelings to obfuscate the reality that our nation is in need of change!
Ideejeinnc
"If you were in a wreck and needed immediate medical care, would it matter to you what color the doctor is as long as the doctor had been trained"
It does not matter what color he or she is! (I would vote for Condi in a heartbeat) I just will not now nor ever vote for a socialist/communist they are proven to fail the people every time and that is who Obama is.
So a right wing Nazi is a better choice, Donnie?Goebbels was part of the right wing movement in Germany, you do know that? Not socialist or communist...
I see you edited your comment---I won't.
Darkestdonnie
Welcome to the New McCarthyism. A chill is descending across the country, and it's frostbiting immigrants, students, journalists, academics, politicians.....
Sir your statement is frightening.....so.....prove you are not a communist? Please cite evidence that supports your wild accusations!
DARKESTDONNIE = DESPERATE
"He is the farthest left politician you could have picked"
The Republicans say this every four years. Can we at least have some new propoganda please? The socialist/communist comments are also particularly ironic considering that the government has ponied up about 1.5 Trillion to save AIG, Bear Stears, Fannie/Freddie, and the 'rescue package'. I know this stuff is automatic by now, but please have the decency to try to pick and choose your propaganda so that the irony is as minimal as possible.
I just will not now nor ever vote for a socialist/communist they are proven to fail the people every time and that is who Obama is.
The Socialist Party candidate is named Brian Moore. The Communist Party, as I understand it, is not running a presidential candidate this time. So as long as you vote for Barack Obama there won't be any danger of you voting for a Socialist or a Communist in this election. Glad I could be of help to clear your obvious confusion.
Obama is a socialist you may not want to believe it but the facts and his voting record and history prove it.
1) Obama speaks passionately about something called "economic justice." He uses the term obliquely, though, speaking in code — socialist code.
A) "Economic justice" simply means punishing the successful and redistributing their wealth by government fiat. It's a euphemism for socialism.
B) Obama also talks about "restoring fairness to the economy," code for soaking the "rich"
C) Obama makes it sound smart and tries to smuggle his socialism / collectivist garbage by the uniformed. He's disguising the wealth transfers as "investments" — "to make America more competitive," he says, or "that give us a fighting chance," ????????.
Investments: (socialism)
"Universal," "guaranteed" health care.
"Free" college tuition.
"Universal national service" (a la Havana).
"Universal 401(k)s" (in which the government would match contributions made by "low- and moderate-income families").
"Free" job training (even for criminals).
"Wage insurance" (to supplement dislocated union workers' old income levels).
"Free" child care and "universal" preschool.
More subsidized public housing.
A fatter earned income tax credit for "working poor."
And even a Global Poverty Act that amounts to a Marshall Plan for the Third World, first foremost Africa. (His roots are Kenyan, and none of his past relitives were slaves)
I do notice a lack of documentation underlying your assertions.
You do realize we already have much of what you describe in place in our country largely due to Republican activities?
Could you please provide me with your "decoder ring" or whatever you use to "decode" the words that are used by Obama? Thanks!
Why can't people who keep pushing the "communism" scare tactic understand that socialism is not communism. Nor is it that socialism becomes automatic lead up to communism. Its unbelieveable what people allow themselves to accept without researching, reading and thinking. Pure socialism is probably not the solution that America needs, but we need to redress the imbalance that we've all experienced the last 8 years.
What? From a woman whose husband was a registered member of the Alaskan Independent Party - with secessionist objective? Who attended meetings with her husband and delivered a speech there as recently as 2006?
http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-aip3-2008sep03,0,6399468.story
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/04/us/politics/04party.html?ref=politics
This is how McCain/Palin plan to close the issues gap - with guilt by association. But for every point they have, there is DIRECT guilt on their hands:
- On Ayers and patriotism, Palin is directly linked to the AIP through her own speeches and her husband.
- On Rezko and his corruption, McCain was directly implicated (not through acquaintance— ewith the Keating 5 SNL scandal in which he was censured by congress.
Why can't people who keep pushing the "communism" scare tactic understand that socialism is not communism.
Exactly---what the hell do people think "social security" is?????? Capitalism????
Or Medicare/Medicaid/ and a host of other programs.
The argument is bogus---and if we take the dictionary definition of "propaganda" the use of these "fear words" fits perfectly......
Why can't people who keep pushing the "communism" scare tactic understand that socialism is not communism.
Socialism and communism are alike in that both are systems of production for use based on public ownership of the means of production and centralized planning. Socialism grows directly out of capitalism; it is the first form of the new society. Communism is a further development or "higher stage" of socialism.
I do notice a lack of documentation underlying your assertions.
Do you not notice that these "talking points" or investments are out of your own playbook? If you're voting for him you might want to know what he stands for ("Those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber." Plato) and as in the article where he came from. It speaks volumes about who and what he wants for America comrade!
The wing nut that posted "Economic Justice" Does not even know what it is.
It is not socialism; The ultimate purpose of economic justice is to free each person to engage creatively in the unlimited work beyond economics, that of the mind and the spirit.
The economic justice system was defined by Louis Kelso and Mortimer Adler, there are three essential and interdependent principles: The Principle of Participation, The Principle of Distribution, and The Principle of Harmony. Like the legs of a three-legged stool, if any of these principles is weakened or missing, the system of economic justice will collapse.
Louis O. Kelso (1913-1991) was a lawyer, investor and economic thinker who sought to find a way to preserve capitalism from the competition of communism as an alternative within the context of the early Cold War and is credited with the creation of the first Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
He had a co author named Mortimer Adler who also wrote the Capitalist Manifesto.
But It is desperation time for the right wing and you might read anything so they can get the numbers close and maybe steal the election.
Socialism grows directly out of capitalism; it is the first form of the new society.
So----and I have to keep from laughing here----socialism is the natural outgrowth of capitalism?????
logdump:
You got any meds I can borrow???? This is just too much!!!!
These people are enough to drive someone to drink! I doubt he will respond to your documentation....
Tol' ya, log dump----oh my god---if'n uh din't know better I'd say it's a wearin' off un meh....
uhhh....that's what i said donnie----
Fascism/Nazism are right wing movements.......
And I must need education cause I don't understand a word you said after that...
Darkestdonnie, incase you haven't noticed, the current Republican Admin IS now officially a Socialist Party. Due to their economic policies of the last 8 years that has now necessitated all of us needing Bail-Outs to the tune of well over a trillion dollars!
(and all this after the Repubs have already spent another Trillion in social programs for the Iraqis & ridding Iraq of all those pesky WMDs!)
Unfortunately for 95% of us poorer Americans tho, Bush, Cheney, Paulson & Co., are only directly bailing out their mega-rich corporate friends & buddies, & hoping that the benefits trickle down to Mainstreet. (Youknow, kinda like McSame's plan to give/keep the tax-breaks to the mega rich oil companies & upper class - as if the tax breaks that GWBush gave the uber-rich years ago, has made any difference today!)
And in my humble opinion, the Socialism of Sweden, Germany, Heck! the Socialism of ALL of Western Europe, is looking a whole lot better than the Sewage-Plant of an economy we now have in America, after 8 years of the Republicans' brand of ultra-deregulated unbridled capitalism.
& I noticed on CNN today that the dollar has again started to slip in value against the Euro! So go figure, sweetheart.
Sound Familiar
Khrushchev said in reference to capitalism, "Мы вас похороним!" (My vas pokhoronim! ), translated to "We will bury you ". This phrase, ambiguous both in the English language and in the Russian language, was interpreted in several ways. Later, he would refer back to the comment and state, "I once got in trouble for saying, 'We will bury you'. Of course, we will not bury you with a shovel. Your own working class will bury you". Of course, on the metaphorical level, the statement could be read two ways. One way is: "We will kill you, then bury you." The other way is: "You will die, and we be at your funeral." ("We will outlive you.")
BOR wrote: While there is no proof either way.
You do realize that it is a logical fallacy to prove a negative, right? For example, you cannot, by any means, disprove my assertion that there is an invisible spaghetti monster hovering over your head.
The burden of proof lies with the claimant.
Poor Krushev. If he was alive today, he would have to admit that Western socialism/capitalism has instead buried communism.
Only North Korea & Cuba are the only countries of note that still embrace communism.
& Cuba, like "communist" China, is embracing capitalism, albeit to a lesser degree than China.
And wouldn't we love to have an economy like China's that's been growing on average 10% per annum for how long? Every year for almost 30 years!
And how do the Chinese do it? = With government controls/regulation, coupled with a healthy dose of Socialism, like our Welfare & Medicaid.
China has outplayed us at our own game of Capitalism, my friends, & now holds over half a trillion U.S. dollars in raw cold cash.
China doesn't need to attack us with their nuclear weapons to destroy us. They can simply dump/manipulate a small portion of their vast stockpile of what was once our dollars/wealth, & our economy & way-of-life will be effectively 'nuked'.
P.S. I saw an interview of one of their top leaders a week or so ago on BBC, Hu Jintao i think is his name, where he openly stated that it was They who twisted the arm of the Bush Admin behind the scenes to start bailing out our financial houses, even before the 700 bn bailout. So as to protect Chinese investments in Wall St & our financial sector.
Therefore, China is already flexing their economic dominance/mastery over us, & most of us are clueless to that Reality.
You should have done a bit of research on China before posting
As for the Dollar losing ground againsy the Euro, it's been posting highs
I believe if the other markets are experiencing drops and their central banks are increasing the insurance for their savers, this problem on Wall Street with the Mortgages was only a part of the problem.
I am Jeremiah Johnson and I am not a wall street insider or economist but I smell a RAT.
Donnie...you must be talking about McCain and Palin!
http://hubpages.com/hub/What-Does-China-Have-To-Do-with-the-Fannie-Freddie-Bail-Out
This is an excellent article on how China has outplayed us at capitalism & now holds us by our Financial Testicles.
It also hints that it WAS Chinese Pressure that triggered the once Ultra-capitalist , once anti-socialist GOP Admin, to start the massive bailing out of our financial institutions inclusive of Fannie & Freddie Mac.
I was looking for a link to the video interview i saw where the Chinese leader stated/boasted that it was they who applied the pressure on the Repub Bush Admin to start the massive bailing out of our financial institutions - in effect, to go Socialist. Ok Darkestdonnie.
A history of Bailouts will show that they all come during Republican administrations nearly exclusively since 1970.
I posted it a couple days ago. Just remember, Its a brave new world.

I am Jeremiah Johnson and presenting to you a history of your Tax Dollars at work
feel better?
Well, you are proving my point J.J. = that the GOP traditionally due to their over-reliance on the greedy captains of the free-market & general lack of regulation coupled with fiscal incompetence, have always tended to be the ones in the modern era ,to resort to outright Socialism, to rescue our economy.
However, you failed to factor into this current spate of Bailouts2008, that this time around we are Multiple Trillions of dollars in debt, courtesy of 8 years of Repub rule, & after 8 years of a GOP-championed debacle in Iraq, that could have entirely been avoided if Gore, Kerry, or Obama at age 39, had become U.S. president 8 years ago instead of Dumbya Bush!
Or dont you believe our financial wizards when they say our current economic calamity is a once in a century Event?? Potentially even worse than what we went thru in 1929? Huh?
Cheney & Bush must have been asleep these last 8 years. (or too busy with their corporate buddies, profiteering in Iraq! & not watching over the rest of us' financial house keenly enough)
And McCain in his own words, voted/agreed with GWBush's policies over 90% of the Time. And also in his own words understands Zilch! about our $14Trillion per year economy. (or are you relying on Klondike Barbie to bring him up to speed on our Tanking economy??)
Now that's Scary. :|
I sense an element of truth to the Chinese govt need to keep the US economy from tanking (and with it the US dollar). Since they are so leveraged in loans and bonds in US currency (much of it it due to gov bonds needed to support the war), they don't want the value of their investment to go down.
Thank you, Independent.
Unlike some other ppl posting, you are indeed thinking.
Republicans: "Brother, can you spare a Billion"
Democrats: "Brother can you spare a dime"
Hey guys, Palin just gave me a fun idea. Lets start to use a new phrase - "Paling around" meaning "Acting dumb and clueless with a fake barbie-doll smile and by using embarrasing phrases like "betcha" while impulsively winking as if you have a nervous condition!" LOL... You can use it like this: "Jenny stop Paling around!!! Or your brain will stick like that!!" hahahaha lol
It's sure to scare some kids straight.. lol
Jeremiah Johnson....
you have a good point.
The U.S. bailout is a whopping 700 billion dollars.
Though the U.S. economy is bigger than Germany´s, Germany´s bailout of the Hypo Real Estate bank is only 50 billion euros. If you multiply that by lets say 7 countries in Europe, its still smaller than the U.S. bailout.
Makes you wonder.... how U.S. government officials were sleeping on the job.
This entire administration and everyone who worked with them MUST GO.
Orr Stop Paling around Bor!! Your brain might stick that way!! hahahaha lol
(And wow, you must be psychic about the age thing! I'm really impressed.. ;) wink*
And ps. you've got to take these elections with a bit of humor, or you'll go mad and start acting like McInsane. Now thats someone who belongs in observation.. not the oval office..
Oh and by the way Bor, if you want to talk about someone's IQ, I guess yours is really low because your sentence doesn't make much sense. (SO you really were Paling aroung weren't you?!) lol.. Yea I'm a 4th year English Major, History minor.. so 'betcha' I would know ;)
I know what you're thinking: "Damn those 21 year old college students who can put together a sentence! Doggonit!" lol..
Perhaps I set the bar too low for Sarah Palin given her limited media exposure. I was glad to see she could actually put nouns and verbs together during the debate. Tactfully, she was supreme and on point. I could see her appeal - I’m sure she’s a great “hockey mom”; Alaska seems to embrace her, so I’m sure she’s a great Governor; certainly… is she likeable and smart. I respect her achievements and all women should be proud of her but, not all Americans grow up Mayberry, the state she governs is less than one tenth the size of the city in which I live. The notion that she is the face our nation is ridiculous. The only real direction she suggested was the expansion of her executive position. What is all that about? Would I be too naïve to think she might just want a tiara? Really, she needs to go back to Alaska, be a great Governor and active mother - beyond that, she’s McCains “bobblehead” and I’m sorry she doesn’t see that.
Now that the debates are over, “Ms. Barracuda” is on the Obama attack. Shame on her to stoop that low, it is not dignified, it’s downright disgraceful. What kind of message is she teaching her children? I suppose it would be too much to ask about her involvement in “Troopergate” and why she wants to stop the investigative process, to acknowledge McCain was part of the Keating 5. There are even declassified documents that appear to suggest that the then Lt. John McCain provided much more than his name and serial number as a POW. Now, honestly, I have overlooked many of these issues because the legitimacy of them. That does not mean to suggest that we should discount the importance of a thorough “background check”. I had thought the country had moved on since all these smears have already been hashed over and debunked. Furthermore, I’m appalled at some of the media refocus of these issues and not the real issues that face Americans today! I cannot believe the “Jerry Springer” mentality of the republican party.
Seriously, I don’t want a president I can relate to, I want one that can relate to me and to the millions of other Americans across the nation, a leader that restores our faith in government, represents us globally with grace, dignity, diplomacy and confidence. Given the current state of our economy and in the mists of not one, but two wars, we need a leader who can provide liberty and justice for all.
GrabanIdiot Jeremiah Johnson....you have a good point. The U.S. bailout is a whopping 700 billion dollars.Though the U.S. economy is bigger than Germany´s, Germany´s bailout of the Hypo Real Estate bank is only 50 billion euros.
Up until about two months ago, 50 billion Euros was equivelent to nearly $75 billion Dollars USA
I am Jeremiah Johnson and the EU Bailout I was just hearing being discussed was to be done by passing the bill onto the Shareholders and not use one single Taxpayer Euro.
I said exactly the same thing here and elsewhere. Any Wall Street Bailout should come directly from the shareholders who are first and foremost responsible for the criminal actions of the Officers of the Corporations they are invested in and not NOT the American Taxpayer.
What has happened here is criminal.
the EU Bailout I was just hearing being discussed was to be done by passing the bill onto the Shareholders and not use one single Taxpayer Euro.
Yet, some people calim we should be afraid fo becoming like "socialist" Europe -- countries that actually tend to watch out for their citizens.
While the world is shocked by the amount of the US bailout, the worse thing is that Americans themselves were likewise shocked by the amount.
Everything has become so unpredictable under the Republicans. How could anyone live peacefully with more of them at the White House ?
My family and I certainly dont know anymore what might hit us next or what more may be discovered after Bush leaves the White House.
McCain voted with George Bush 95% of the time...that's enough "palin' around" with terrorists to scare me.
It amazes me how the repugNUTs out there were hell bent for leather to protect this bimbo from Gwen Ifill and her biased questions in the debates. (methinks they feared that Bimbo (Saraccuda) would make a fool out of herself and attacked the moderator ahead of time.) Covered Saracuda's assets I guess.
Andf If she incited the crowd to chanting "Kill Obama" like I have heard happened, Saraccua should be prosecuited! Isn't threatening a presidential candidate a criminal offense?
If you want to start throwing fire bombs, you don't send out the fluffy bunny to do it. I think people don't take Sarah Palin seriously."
No WEdo take her serious that's the problem when you have a person running for the 2nd highest office in the land who grossly makes stupid statements at the drop of the hat. FACT: the entire team who brain washed her for the debate came from none other than"W"s team including Karl Rove. Is it a surprise that with less than 4 weeks to go the smears begin...again? Do any of you in the MEDIA believe inis your CONSTITUTIONAL duty to DEMAND interviews with Palin?? one on one?? Folks this ticket is asking for your vote but wont let you interview their candidate?? Is that not DISTURBING?? WHY?? DEMAND interviews so the UNSCRIPTED questions can be asked of Palin. Not about her hunting or children, but about her public office issues?? Her Husband running the unauthorized campaigns against members of her administration?? seceding from the Union?? Troopergate?? Avoiding Subpoenas?? America better wake up!! this election CANNOT be controlled by the Rove-Bush machine again!! OTHERWISE...You will get 4 more years of misery and ABUSE of power like the last 8...Just say NO to McCain/Palin and their smear machine. PEACE!!
Ok so let me see here . If Mccain ends up beating barrack in this election . Since this is now "racially tinged" ,are you nuts going to riot nationwide like after the oj trial in the 90's Just a thought , Please define racially tinged . you guys a friggin nut jobs.
p.s . i have my riot gear ready !!!!!!
This is your first comment on the site, sorry obama. . Wow. Here's the CoH . Get with it.
Ok I read the Code of Honor!!!! anything specific you object about or is it the McPain same...shoot the messenger???
The phrase you guys a friggin nut jobs is the part that people object to.
Lots of people make comments for and against Obama or McCain. That's fine. That's the sort of thing this website is for However insulting other posters is not acceptable.
I might add that I do not feel it is necessary to include ridiculous unfounded assertions...
Ok so let me see here . If Mccain ends up beating barrack in this election . Since this is now "racially tinged" ,are you nuts going to riot nationwide like after the oj trial in the 90's Just a thought , Please define racially tinged . you guys a friggin nut jobs.
p.s . i have my riot gear ready !!!!!
Come on......give all of us...a break!
P.S. THANKS TYLER!
Hey. You got something else wrong too.
Wasn't that the Rodney King trial?
I do not care for either parties candidate! But I see nothing racial about the fact that Obama, had or has a relationship with some extremist elements. I would think that however distasteful the comments may be to some, Palin's remarks are true.
I was around when Bill Ayers was doing his thing- does this mean that I was palling around with him? The thought processes of publicans makes me nauseous. I wish the publicans would stop using the reptilian portion of their hind brain.
Oliver, watch reruns of "Meet the Press" today if you want to learn more about McCain's deep relationship with some extra-chromosome right wing groups whose common bond is basically, at roots, racism.
I am interested to know what exactly you find "true" about Palin's comments?
To whatever extent you consider the phrase "palling around" is certainly up to debate as a personal interpretation, but I think the common acceptance thus far is that Obama and Ayers were not friends but acquaintances and they were only in contact professionally. Additionally, I cannot see how one person's actions can be used negatively towards another person especially when those actions were not endorsed, and in fact condemned, by the second person. I also do not understand how Obama can possibly control things that happened when he was 8 years old..!
What makes you think that Palin's remarks are true?
To date, Sarah Palin has not been a beacon of veracity in her campaign.
He was 8 years old....The story was completely debunked BY REPUBLICANS ON A WITCH HUNT earlier in the year
FFS The right ought to have some shame but we know they don't.
Oliver - your post is really out in left field. "Obama, had or has a relationship with some extemist elements"............ Are you serious with framing it that way?
Obama was on a charity board and a school reform board charged with distributing funds from a grant received by the Annenberg Foundation. This was 30+ years after Ayers had any issues related to his membership in the Weathermen. In that period he has gotten a doctorate and become a tenured professor and the Univ of Illionois Chicago. Interesting that in that light you would say that Obama has or had relationships with extremist elements. That isn't even remotely true and your post is inflammatory and paints issues with a very wide brush.
Obviously you have been "reading" the same papers as Palin--"doggone it, I betcha"
Such "Christian" behavior should make her concerned about being out in a thunderstorm.......it just may earn her a lightening bolt or two!!!
If it is not true,
why are you so outraged?
Just ignore it.
It MAKES SENSE :
Palin knows foreign policy because she can see Russia at the border.
Now they accuse Obama of being a terrorist because he lives in the same neighborhood as Ayers.
Did you see the reasoning ? WHOEVER is NEAR ANYTHING must be RELATED TO THAT THING.
Wow, what IQ. No matter it took Palin a longggggggggggg time to finish college.
yeah when poepel lie about you.. juist ignore it.. them swiftboat crap never wworks.. so forget the outrage,.,.this is jusyt gop business as usual with the southern stratgey in full force.
You start out in 1954 by saying, "@!$%# , @!$%#, @!$%#." By 1968 you can't say "@!$%#"—that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states' rights and all that stuff. You're getting so abstract now [that] you're talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you're talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites.
lee atwater 1990's
Bor(derline) - are you serious with that comment about ignoring it if it isn't true? You would make a terrible strategist for the GOP. This country is full of people that believe everything they hear - the only way to fight it is to counter what they hear with details. I bet if I check the blogs you have reacted many times to negative (true or not) comments about McCain or Palin or any number of other people. You don't have the market on outrage cornered.
Unfortunately swiftboating does work. There are people who firmly believe that John Kerry, a combat veteran with a Silver Star, Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts, was a coward in Vietnam. Telling lies about the opposition has been a political tactic for centuries.
And McCain/Palin "pal around"with the ultimate terriosts .....GW Bush, Chaney and Rove.
If Palin wants to look into the past (although she asked Sen. Biden not to do it), I would like to know why she is okay for charging a rape victim $1200 for a rape test kit? Why is that okay, but expensing 31 nights at home not? Hypocrisy apparently is not a word Palin is familiar with.
Buckeye Voter asks: What makes you think Palin's remarks are true?
What makes you think Douglass Daniel's remarks are true?
Okay people, let's get this mess out and over with. Show me the record that has placed Senator Obama in jail for terrorists actions! Show me records that he has been questioned by police officials for dealings with terrorists, commiting terrorist acts, planning or scheming to commit terrorist acts or even being questioned as a "person of interest" in any of the above acts or attempts to commit an act of terrorism or other violent crimes.
I am not from Missouri (a great State of America), but I want to be shown. Barring any evidence of this type....SHUT UP! THANK YOU!
I am more concerned with taxes, energy (sustainable), getting our troops home, avoiding Global War, healthcare, environmental issues and getting our National debt under control and getting America "back to work", instead of outsourcing our vital jobs that stem our economy! That's what I care about!
I had to put this in. Everyone says this and it is getting worse.
I'm sure I'm not the only male in America who, when Palin dropped her first wink, sat up a little straighter on the couch and said, "Hey, I think she just winked at me." And her smile. By the end, when she clearly knew she was doing well, it was so sparkling it was almost mesmerizing. It sent little starbursts through the screen and ricocheting around the living rooms of America. This is a quality that can't be learned; it's either something you have or you don't, and man, she's got it”.-- Rich Lowry, National Review.
Corperateties -
shes got it. Shes got what it takes to lose among thinking voters.
Just ignore it.
Standard operating procedure I see BOR---Sudan.
People like BORderline should be held accountable for their part in spreading this fabrication, as they are part of the problem and up hold the blatant lies and ethical misconduct of McCain's campaign. Factcheck.org has said that the smears the McCain are resorting to are blatant lies in regards to Ayers. More and more truth shall unfold as the lies catapult from the right. Bloggers that continue this blatant misconduct should be looked at by everyone as dishonorable with no credibility.
Oh yes, they are heading to the closets right now getting out those white sheets and the ironing board and hoping that Nov. 5th will be theirs.
If you think that Palin's statements are true, then you are reading the same source material as she does....the FOX NEWS ticker.
If Palin's remarks and claims are true, then dammit we have to convict every US President from the last 50 years, because all of them met with the leaders of our enemy countries.
In the same room with, shook hands with, ATE DINNER WITH, had pictures taken with, and directly talked to them. Sometimes not even with anyone else present.
Oh my god.
Forget palling around! These men were alone behind closed doors! There is no telling what they could have been doing!
Your use of the word relationship is incorrect.
They have no relationship at all.
Obama worked with him on programs related to his community service and Mr Ayers is a well regarded person in that field at the major university where Obama met him.
I talked recently with a person in business on a project and the first thing he said to me was he had a very old checkered past. He told me what he did I laughed and we did what I had came for. We met several times and completed the project. Once as we were meeting he said that he mentioned that because he did not want me to find out somewhere else. I told him it did not matter and we parted ways.
Someday if I ever decide to run for office I am sure my opponent if he is as unethical as McCain is and he has a stooge like Palin to mouth things he does not have the guts to mention himself would find I did business with someone in passing that did have a checkered background and use it against me.
In a large sense Charles Keating could be called a domestic terrorist if one wanted to stretch it.
Buckeye Voter asks: What makes you think Palin's remarks are true?
What makes you think Douglass Daniel's remarks are true?
Who?
Isn't it funny how Palin accused Joe Biden of bring up the past (how McCain/Bush got us to where we are today) even though it is relevant , but she can try to tie something to Barack Obama past when he was just a little boy of eight. Boy, hypocrisy runs deep within Palins veins.
Message to Sarah Palin, THINK before speaking.
I think it's funny how Palin sneers "He wants to bring up that past" while she didn't even make a half-hearted attempt to tell the country how her ticket would make the future better.
Think before speaking? Jeez what a radical concept for publicans!
Message to Sarah Palin, THINK before speaking.
Not possible. Winking and speaking at the same time is pretty much her limit.
My goodness, lordy, me! Think before speaking the ditz wouldn't have anything to say, and her "debate camp" crammed her head so full of trash, it just keeps falling out. A lot of people know people that they are not proud of, death row inmates, crooks, oh right politicians are not crooks, liars, drunks, so what?
Hanging out with Joe Six Pack, makes Sarah mightier than Obama, please, I don't think so.
Joe still has his concerns!
MsHooterville ---
Palin was supposed to be the attack dog of McCain. But the moment she was chosen, she shocked everyone by dragging McCain to the bottom of the polls and attacking her own self and political party instead.
bor one day you will have to surprise me with a witty comment,
biden was campaigning.. i guess the gop thinks mccain fathered a bastard black child sicne yall said it in 200 right? everythign bush said in his campaign against mccain is true right?
and ois this the reach accross the asiole reforming mavericks i have heard about that try to take down a man with lies and claim he is unamerican cause he has different views?
isnt this the @!$%# we are trying to get awy from.
the "your unpatriotic if you disagree with us " gop bull @!$%#?
Graban, I was just telling my daughter about my revelation of the day: SarahCuda doesn't WANT McCain to win. She wants Obama to win and run against him HERSELF in 2012!
Hell, what does SarahCuda need that old McMadMan for? She'll still be in her 40s in four more years, she'll just practice extra hard on those "gotcha" questions and start reading some newspapers and she'll take the White House herself!
Exactly.
She wants Obama to win and run against him HERSELF in 2012!
Palin/Duke 2012. The right white ticket for the newly formed GOP/KKK Party.
R.Rondald,
Palin/Duke 2012. The right white ticket for the newly formed GOP/KKK Party.
I am snickering over that! Never quite thought of it that Though truly it it NOTHING to laugh at. Rather, its quite revolting. I need a rolaids now.
I burst out laughing, not snickered but laughed.
charlotteslse, you will find the longer you are here on NV that the 'Faux' News network isn't worthy of actual factual news or information.
If you want to be considered credible here you need to use other sources. And if you want to be educated you will have to look beyond FNN as well. Faux news is a known GOP mouth piece with evidence right here on numerous articles to back it up. You can do a search here on NV if you want.
The "Faux News Network"----good one dcstone! Never heard that one before.
I have heard the "Fox Noise Network" before----
Considering who their first news editor was----it should not surprise us that they are the avenue of the doctors of spin for the fearmongers....
I mean be serious----Bill O'Reilly a serious journalist???? He is a disgrace to everyone who is human most of the time.
Then there is Hannity-----OMG---squeaking little lower echelon sycophant that he is....
I have been scanning comments after getting off of work----I have to tell you that the level of conversation reflected in most of the right wingers comments has deteriorated even more than usual----and that really is saying something....LOW expectations and all----: )
A simple observation of the vocabulary is hysterical----and I won't even get into the sentence structure, syntax, spelling and grammar.....let alone coherence.
Our education system HAS failed.....to a large degree.
I really did not think people actually talked like Sarah Palin---a journalism major???----ba-hahahahahahaha----
Her admission the other day when she spoke of the fact that Catie Couric "annoyed" her and that was why she responded as she did is just fabulous!!!!
She admitted that when she doesn't want to talk about something she "pivots" away from the subject matter to another of her choosing.
Her words---not mine....the "Artful Dodger" will not withstand scrutiny for very much longer....
I don't know about you but when I am annoyed my communication becomes much more precise-----not what happened with Palin.....English must be her second language....
I really wonder if the power seeking child actually does read anything or writes anything----her communication skills are sorely short of anything intelligible unless scripted. I don't think she is incapable----just so overwhelmed she becomes befuddled.
Oh---and lest I neglect my promise to myself:
Governor Palin is an accessory to genocide in the Sudan and feels no remorse (despite her lie about it during the debate) about using part of the Alaska Permanent Fund money ($22M) to assist the government in the Sudan in the extermination of many, many people.
Guess we better not get on her wrong side......
Sinister Sarah Palin is living up to her evil master's expectations by serving in the role of attack female dog. The publicans are counting on the average underinformed American voter's laziness to accept at face value any lies that spew out of Caribou Barbie's mouth.
Yup, they'll vote for her hairdo, it's nicer than Biden. But what they don't know is that stupid breeds more stupid and we will far worse off than we are today. That's why we have to try to keep educating people to make sure to vote for Obama.
Yup, they'll vote for her hairdo, it's nicer than Biden.
It comes to a peak in the back like that so it fits under her pointy white hood easier.
Every time I hear her speak, I am back in high-school listening to one of the Cheerleaders running for student office on the mandate "The Shorter the Skirt, The Better The View"
Thanks JJ, for a mental image by which I will forever be scarred!!!!
God---along with BOR(derline) and AMR 1960's rejection today I think I will need severe counseling.....for many years....
Bahahhahahahahaha!
Scotch, it's cheaper then a shrink and a lot more effective.
R. Donald:
A good Manhatten will do----never did develop a taste for Scotch----though I am seriously thinking about it!!!
Her reference to Obama's relationship with William Ayers, a member of the Vietnam-era Weather Underground, was exaggerated at best if not outright false
Of course they're using false fears. That seems to be all the republicans have left to base their campaign on. In this election, the facts favor the democrats, so to compete, the McCain campaign has to lie. This from the man who promised an honorable campaign. Disgusting.
The publicans only have 3 tools in their campaign arsenal:
1. Fear
2. Smears
3. Qu**rs
Frank, you forgot "Scare the White Folks." Or maybe that's a subcategory of "Fear"
Perhaps we should be digging into Palin's background. She is already in the middle of a CURRENT corruption investigation. Shouldn't that be sounding off bells? It has also been said that she would cc cher her husband on government emails, which it is unknown if he has any type of security clearance.
Here is what is being said in Alaska and shouldn't this be a concern for all Americans:
Appeal Filed in the Case of Sarah Palin's Secret Emails
Days ago, Mother Jones ), asking Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee, to review the decision to keep these emails secret. Here is the statement McLeod issued afterward:
September 9, 2008, Anchorage, Alaska—Andrée McLeod, a registered Republican and well-known citizen watchdog filed an administrative appeal in which Ms. McLeod requested Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to review the decision to withhold or redact over 1,100 public records in violation of the Alaska Public Records Act. The records document the day-to-day operation of the Governor's Office and members of her administration during Sarah Palin's tenure as governor.
"The people of Alaska have a right to know the inner workings of their government. They have a right to know how the individuals they elect to public office are discharging the public trust," McLeod said. "The decision to hide documents to which state law allows citizens to have access suggests that Governor Palin's promise to have a transparent administration is bogus."
"Equally troubling," said Donald Mitchell, the Anchorage attorney who is representing Ms. McLeod, "is the fact that the records that have been provided to Ms. McLeod document that for the past two years Governor Palin has allowed her husband, Todd Palin, to compromise governmental decision-making by inserting himself whenever he chooses to do so into the day-to-day operations of the Office of the Governor.”
Documents received in response to a public records request by McLeod contained logs of undisclosed emails and thousands of e-mails assigned to Palin administration appointees Frank Bailey and Ivy Frye. The logs and redacted e-mails are the basis of this administrative appeal.
“Keeping government communications secret is not being a ‘champion of transparent government’ and fails to meet Governor Palin's promises that she established and ran on,” McLeod says. “What is Sarah Palin hiding?”
Will Palin get to this review before Election Day—if at all?
Isn't one of McPalin's big gotcha statements, "We got to make big government 'tranparent' so everyone can see what's goin' on." Based on her actions, seems like she's not being so "transparent."
Sarah Palin is for John McCain what Spiro Agnew was for Richard Nixon. A corrupt unknown turned attack dog, telling lies for political advantage. History repeats...
History repeats...
Hope not; Nixon was not out until 1/2 way through his 2nd term.
Someone, anyone ... should inform Sarah Palin this country was founded by what we know today are terrorists.
I am Jeremiah Johnson and I know my history and Sarah Palin does not.
"that past"?
I just don't know about this woman.....
She's a drama queen with a passel of trouble on her own door step, she would be better off tending her family...a Christian Woman's #1 job, than trying to cut down a decent hard working man like Obama. Back to junior high for Sarah!
There is a forth tool in their arsenal..Racism. I wonder who have more white sheets hanging in there closet Palin or McShame.
Has the world forgotten that Sarah's married to a member of a secessionist party in AK, and spoke at their convention. Talk about the pot calling the kettle.... oh, dear, gotta get a new metaphor.
For Sen. McC there are many lingering questions about his record from 40 yrs ago, and a brushfire of rumors that he will never put to rest until he releases POW/MIA records (along with his medical records). Does he really want MSM pulling off those scabs? Has McC forgotten that the Obama campaign has yet to unleash its own 527s?
The narrative of the moment is that McC is increasingly desperate and whatever campaign approach he takes -- positive, negative, indifferent -- will be viewed as a sign of his increasing desperation. Whatever McCain now does is almost immediately turned against him. He's a one-man circular firing squad.
The Dems should show the same respect for McStain's military service that the filthy publicans did for John Kerry's service. (Remember those fat female cows at the Publican convention with purple bandaids on their fingers?)
I remember those, Frank. Nutri-System should have a booth at the GOP conventions.
obama should have put one on, on day one and never took it offf.
that was some of the most shameful gop hipocracy in histoy.
they atatcked a man who vulunteered while theri boy ran and hid.
This article itself is guilty of stoking racism, not Gov. Palin's remarks. Mr. Daniel does a poor job proving his thesis and should keep his mouth shut.
portraying Obama as "not like us" is another potential appeal to racism
No, you can be a blame-America-first Harvard elitist snob who thinks that all of us in flyover country bitterly cling to our guns and religion... regardless of your skin color. Obama's shameful apology for being American in his Berlin speech, and claiming that US soldiers fire-bombed villages and murdered civilians in Afghanistan make him unfit for command in my book... and I would say the same thing if he was a corn-fed white boy from Nebraska.
Agreed. Inflammatory headline, unsubstantiated by the story. Can we "report" AP?
Nate, you're so cute with your "Harvard elitist snob" snarks. I've always had a good vocabulary, just by nature of having parents who did and who didn't talk down to their kids. We learned early to speak properly and know the meanings of words and their contexts.
When we were just being ourselves at school, other kids would say, scornfully, "You use BIG words!"
I'd be puzzled, thinking, "Thats a BAD thing?"
MsHooterville - since you have a good vocabulary and are apparently a brilliant person, please re-read my comments and actually respond to a point I actually made.
Nathan - two interesting points in your post. 1) The elitist line is tired and not even true. Lose the college connection if you want your point to be taken seriously - there are just as many GOP advisors who went to an ivy league school as there are Dems. 2) Take the comment about afghanistan and post the full source for everyone to see - when you do and they read it, they will see that you are playing the old GOP favorite of taking things out of context. He point was to say that they needed more troops on the ground in Afghanistan so that they didn't have to fall back and air raids and dropping bombs on villages that were having the effect of killing a lot of innocent people. Do your homework and play straight with the facts. And thats coming from a non-ivy leaguer so maybe it will mean more to you.
Nate, what is there to respond to? Its just a parroting of the same bullcrap my neocon friends send me in anonymous chain letter emails. Don't admonish her to "respond to your point" when all you have is bluster.
Nate, when your first line is "Harvard elite snob" there's no point in reading the rest of your rant. You've already exposed yourself for what you are. I live in fly-over country, too, but I don't have the chip on my shoulder for bright people the way you clearly do. Stop giving fly-over country negative image.
"Blame-America-first"? Why do republicans feel the need to attach this label to anyone who believes America undermines its credibility by ignoring its role in creating some of the problems it is attempting to solve. Have you ever tried to resolve a conflict with someone who accepts no responsibility for their actions? It's impossible. At best you end up agreeing to disagree.
"Harvard elitist"? This is a pathetic attempt by republicans to turn a huge positive into a negative. When did being educated disqualify someone for the world's highest office? By definition, anyone who graduated from Harvard is part of an elite group (i.e., select few) and, as previously pointed out, this includes many republicans. The term elitist, however, has a purposely negative connotation and implies that Obama believes power should be concentrated in the hands of the elite few. By definition, every voter and candidate in a federal election subscribes to this theory. According to the US Census Bureau, there are roughly 305 million Americans who are governed by roughly 514 federally elected officials. That's nearly one official for every 600,000 people. How's that for a concentration of power?
"Snob"? All my life, I've been listening to the republicans tell struggling Americans to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and turning their noses up at the down trodden. How ironic is it that you are now labeling someone who has overcome so much adversity a snob. Meanwhile, your candidate has more homes and cars than he can count, and wouldn't even include anyone with income of less than $5 million among the rich.
Your claim that Obama "apologized for being America" is so ridiculous it doesn't warrant rebuttal.
Obama's "cling to their guns and religion" comment was clearly a reference to the hot button issues along which party lines have been sharply divided, and the attempts by the republicans to exploit those concerns time and time again--especially in rural areas.
It's hard to believe that you are intelligent enough to operate a computer, yet stupid enough to believe what you've posted. In my opinion, you're either an idiot or a liar. Then again, maybe I'm just one of the millions of blame-america-first, harvard elitist snobs who are tired of the republican fear and smear tactics.
It is so true that repubicans always claim to be the only 'true' American, they NEVER take any blame for the mess they have caused, never. But to claim that if we don't think as you, we are elitist, snobs, uppity, but you are so down to earth and are the only ones who really know what is best for this country, THE WORLD.
Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran, Iraq, any 'brown' country for they are inferior to your great whiteness..you know what is best for you & others of your kind are always 'right' therefore do not question you or question what you do.
That will not happen again, those of us who disagree with you & your ink will stand and shout out your lies and faults. We will air your dirty laudry and expose the filth you are. No longer will you claim to represent ALL of USA for you do not.
Nicely said underdog!
Underdog #8.7 x2!
Underdog, thanks for opening up that can of "Get With You" on Nathan. The very fact he can deny that Palin's comment was thinly-veiled racism already goes to prove you're having a battle of wits with an unarmed combatant. Again, the repugnantcan party has resorted to the "Attack the Other Guy" strategy, but I believe that, unlike 2000 & 2004, the American people have had enough of this nonsense.
Look, I watched Obama's speech in Berlin, and I was embarrassed for him. He doesn't speak for me when he apologizes for America. We're not perfect, but you don't air your laundry outside the family. It was classless.
And from the way he treats people when he thinks the cameras are off... I think he's kind of a jerk. But that's just my impression of him.
Okay, so forget he's from Harvard. He's still a snob. Forget the punditry... let me speak for myself here: he is not like ME in so many ways that have nothing to do with his skin color. He doesn't see the world like I see it, he doesn't see America like I see it, so I'm not going to vote for him. I don't care how much he promises to make all my dreams come true.
He attended an America-hating church for 20 years and didn't know about how his pastor really felt? How is that a display of good judgment. And regardless of how close he is (or isn't) to Bill Ayers the terrorist, Obama hasn't exactly tried to distance himself from him... especially when Ayers helped launch Obama's IL campaign. Bad judgment. He said that when Russia invaded Georgia, that we should let the UN handle it. Guess who's on the UN Security Council? Russia. Bad Judgment. He'd legitimize Ahmadinejad's destroy-Israel rhetoric by meeting with him face to face with no preconditions. Bad judgement.
"This is not a man who sees America like you and I see America," she said. "We see America as a force of good in this world. We see an America of exceptionalism." Sarah Palin
Imagine for a minute....Ms. Palin.... the second in command to run our country. Just the thought of it .....is a frightening image. If Americans can't see what is happening.....it is time to do what is right....this effort must transcend race, class, and gender issues..it is about what is best for OUR country.
That's what happens when you don't travel or at least have curiosity about other cultures.
I've travelled quite a bit and trust me, people in other countries have enough sophistication to love what America stands for, but dislike and disagree with her current leadership.
Nathan - might be hard for you the believe but the last 7.5 years and the policies that have come from this disaster of a president is now what the world thinks we believe in.
I've travelled quite a bit and trust me, people in other countries have enough sophistication to love what America stands for, but dislike and disagree with her current leadership.
I wish more Americans would see other countries the same way. It's usually not the people but the governements of the countries that are the problems.
last 7.5 years and the policies that have come from this disaster of a president is now what the world thinks we believe in.
patently untrue. Give them some credit.
Nathan - credit for what? List 5 things they should get credit for with foreign policy.......
I've travelled quite a bit and trust me, people in other countries have enough sophistication to love what America stands for, but dislike and disagree with her current leadership.
I Disagree 100%. I have traveled a bit also, living the last two and half years in South America and Europe and in my experience the last 7.5 years of Bush's polices and the direction the US has taken have been bad enough and long enough to sway A LOT of people.
7.5 years is a whole generation!
15 year olds who were just learning about the world have learned only bad things about the US until now when they are 23 years old. These are the people that make the future of the world and these are the people that will count in shaping America's leadership ability on the world stage. Remember that the US can only lead if the rest of the world follows, and right now not many people are interested in following in the footsteps of the US.
Nathan---Do you read the foreign press or have friends from foreign countries?
The United States under Bush has zero credibility anywhere----and in many places the current administration's policies (and many before it) are esteemed as terrorist in nature themselves......and I find it hard to disagree.
Sarah Palin: Investor in the genocide in the Sudan for instance......with Alaska tax payer money.
How do you think the rest of the world really perceives her when the "financial concerns" of Alaska citizens trumps divestiture from an investment that underwrites murder and genocide???
And let us not forget that Zero Credibility automatically translates to Zero Tolerance and Zero Credit
Who in the hell was she talking to and how would she even know that after being stranded in Alaska for most of her years. Putting the pulse on the finger of people here in the lower 48 and traveling around the country may be the way to find out how we feel!
Look at it this way, everyone. Palin is making an emergency trip here to Omaha NEBRASKA to try to gin up my district, which is leaning heavily Obama. Obama looks poised to snag one of Nebraska's five electoral votes because of his popularity in "Obamaha."
Now how bad is it when a Republican has to come to NEBRASKA in OCTOBER to try to save ONE electoral vote?
My God, what's next? The Missouri Tigers beating the Cornhuskers? Oh...wait...
Or Publicans having an honest election?
McCain insulted America's intelligence by choosing her and she'll insult his campaign in return. That is how karma works.
He insulted women, too. Is Palin how he sees most women? He does seem to have this bizarre thing for former beauty queens, marrying one and chosing another as his political wife.
Gives McCain a manly feeling to have his EGO stroked!
McCain holds anyone who doesn't stroke his ego in utter contempt. His attack dog, Palin, has rabies and is losing her mind.
I seeded this link today with commentary on some of her other words (it's a beauty): Kiplin' vs. Palin
There is a dough!
Pretty strong words coming from someone who's husband is in a party that wants Alaska to secede from the union.
Some body should tell Sarah Palin that there is another difference between Pit Bulls and hockey Mom's other than "LIPSTICK" and that is Pit Bulls while a vicious breed they don't lie and avoid subpoenas
.....We see an America of exceptionalism.
So when did we become accepting of meritocracy at best...
mccain graduated at the bottom of his class and palin attended several colleges in order to obtain a journalism degree...
This is not the example of exceptionolism that I preach to my children and it is not the example we should send to the white house..
.If you believe this electoral soap opera is anything more than a flaccid distraction while wall street gets given blank checks into what is laughably known as 'the federal tax base' in a country whose only power is to print paper with the same credibility that is afforded the trust that believers in a desert cannibal, 3 day aged zombie whose 2nd hand narrative steers 21st centurians into believing the 'last days' are upon us, based on the bible and a president who freely believes he hears voices and is supported by subhuman slugs and braindead crotchless panties of the soul. then gee wizz, you deserve to be throttled in good faith by those who simply don't buy into the platitudes of "you must hate America" and who acknowledge that slavery is not what America is based on and that being a @!$%# is not not a natural state. You need heros for as long as it takes them to have their heads blown off on the telly which is why there has been no meaningful popular response to the rape that's culminated in this latest 'rescue' that is a top-down digital economic rape while you either vent on the internet impotently or pretend long after the fact that you are anything more than economic compost poised to "make a difference'
Fools.
What?
winsomecowboy.........
Your point ?
Is that Palin speak?
winsomecowboy just said what I've been thinking, albeit a little more haphazardly and with a little less punctuation!
If you think any party made of men are going to save this country and make it better for any real lasting period, enjoy the ride. Fools indeed.
Sara Palin Should not walk that walk, USA cannot survive RACIAL WAR, with the hatred of the ARABS, ASIANS, RUSSIANS and comtempt EUROPEANS have for America, It will be really dangerous if BLACKS all over the world become radicalized against USA, so be careful.
THE LAST WARNING
You know, I want to see Obama prez, not McShameless, but threatening racial war is really ignorant.
I have been hearing about a racial war out of not only angry Afican-Americans, Nazis, skin-heads, and it is really tired.
It solves nothing except create more anger and fear, and it is a deadly combination.
No, truly unbiased individual (white or black) is fooled by the McCain/Palin ticket. And it is not working. Polls are indicating such. Your inflammatory remarks is what could cause a set back. So please knock it off..... cool off. Let us work together.
Not saying the person is but most of the hate mail in my inbox that threatens racial wars comes from such people as the KKK and Arian nations types. Think about it
Yes, I know. Still it is very sad.
I think the AP left off the 'This message is approved by Obama' that's required under law for political ads. I know this election has been noted for the media straying off into political speech instead of reporting but this particular one takes the cake.
If that is the case why didn't they play up the fact that there were over 10 protest disturbances at the speeches Palin gave yesterday.
Seems to me that if this were a truly 'liberal' media, they would have said something about that.
Bull there was a post on Newsvine this morning by a Conservative Brit very complimentary to McCain
What's the best strategy for the Obama campaign to counter this drivel?
Hit hard with surrogates on the talking head shows?
Obama/ Biden to come out with the facts and quash it themselves?
Let it simmer a bit and then come out with a counter attack?
I'd say quash it now because the mental right are just looking for a rallying flag or talking point. This kind of Rove crap is perfect for them
Stay on point its a winner and do not even bother. They are rehashing old news that has been discredited many times. I am sure the economy is more important to true Americans than some guy who happened to cross paths with Obama years ago.
The campaign slogan change, must not apply to political smear tactics, coming into the last four weeks of this campaign is going to test the candidates as well as America with reference to what may be a proper or improper comparison with acquaintance, votes, or even contributors.
Let the games begin, and right now Gov. Palin is carring the flag?
Yep, she's carrying the flag that's leading McCain right down the sewer--hope she continues to carry THAT flag. He also needs to realize that Palin keeps referring to herself and Todd, wonder if McCain has picked up on that!!!! He's already a "goner" in her book........ I just continue to feel sorry for her poor, neglected children. No wonder that child got pregnant, she needs attention and someone to care for her!!
And that baby clearly needs to be put in his crib, not dragged around to show off!
I dont know what kind of mother would want to expose her children to politicking ALL OF THE TIME. If you care about that baby´s welfare, you would most likely keep him at home, happy and rested.
I do miss Jackie Kennedy protecting her kids exposure. She was very careful about that so she could rear them as normally as she could.
Ah, Jackie, a fierce mother, and an intelligent, beautiful woman of substance and class.
I miss her.
It is time for J. Wright to step up in support of Obama.
Like Palins minister protects her from "witches"?
AMEN!!!! Palin should have Pastor Muthee come "lay hands on her"!!!...and McCain and get those witches away. Oh...... I mean the Palin witch!!!
Yeah! I wanna see the witch hunter 'blessing' Palin in front of a whole crowd of believers! That would make for a republican event! The witch hunter finds the uh....
Or how about John Hagee's endorsement of McCain?
Thats a good one - forgot all about that - should finish off the catholic vote for McCain quite nicely.
More revelant is :
http://en. wikipedia.org/wiki/Keating_Five
I thought Sarah was all about not looking at the past? So much for that plan.
"Oh there you go again, Joe, pointing to the past. Now Dog gone it..."
It slipped her mind for the occasion. Good catch!!
Unbelievable, we are suffering through one of the worst economic times in American History and McCain and Palin want to talk about one of Obama's donors and fellow board members? How many people that McCain worked with in the past went to jail for the Keating Five thing? Gimme a break. Rick Davis? Phil Gramm? C'mon people, let's not fall for these dirty tricks again.
Why is it if someone tells the truth about Obama the Liberals cover their ears. Obama is, and has since around 1999 and as late as 2002, been involved with Bill Ayers. They remain friends despite the fact that he (Obama) thought Ayres' "acts of terrorism" were despictable. Now isn't that nice???
So Obama doesn't need any enemies with friends like Ayres. It will be his ties with all of his American hating friends (and several of them), not to mention his connection with ACORN a group known for voter fraud. In Washington State ACORN was responsable for nearly 1,750 votes from people that didn't exist...do you think they would do it again for Obama? Everyone knows they will try.
So I hope Sarah and John not only continues with their assault, but it's time they bring out the big guns in the next few weeks and sink Obama's "love boat".
....and then you woke up!!! Let's bring up all of McCain's questionable contacts and "cases". Maybe we could even spin things like McCain does and say that he covorted with Communists and spent 5 years living and conversing with them about the U.S....... sounds like a good ad to me
I hope that Sarah and John continue with it also because it will backfire so badly it will make their heads spin. Whats good for the goose is good for the gandor. I think some Keating 5 ads should do the trick. Or maybe some ads about Cindy McCain's investments in the Sudan? How about McCain's membership to an ultra right wing organization with Anti-Semitic positions. Maybe some McCain-Jack Abramoff commercials - we all know McCain's ties to the gambling industry and Abramoff was all over that. Oh - and maybe some Freddie and Fannie ads showing McCain's campaign manager (or one of the other 12 lobbyists running his campaign) depositing consulting fees into a bank for helping them hold off regulation and oversight.
John McCain spent years living with avowed enemies of the U.S. He ate their food, slept in their bedrooms, and consorted with them every day.
Aren't innuendo and half-truths great? You can drag anyone into the dirt if you use smears and sneers the right way.
But I'd better apologize about my characterization of McCain. After all, telling lies about political opponents is a trick reserved for conservatives. They get all whiny if someone uses their patented strategem.
Why are you and so many other republicans pretending that you are concerned about Obama's "ties" to radicals? Do you really imagine a world in which there are politicians who are not acquainted with any shady or radical individuals? Do you really believe neither John McCain and Sarah Palin have ever attended a fundraiser attended or held by people who held overtly racist views? Do you really think Sarah Palin has not rubbed elbows with some extremely anti-American Alaskans? Are you not aware that John McCain gave interviews in which he acknowledged that he himself (not his wife or pastor) made comments that could be considered anti-American or unpatriotic?
No reasonable person believes you give two sh!ts about any of these flimsy associations to which you and other republicans keep alluding. You know how hard it will be for many white voters, especially older white voters, to look beyond race. This is nothing more than a desperate attempt to make white voters who are giving him serious consideration to second guess themselves. You're trying to give them an excuse for voting against their own self-interests in good conscience.
I have more respect for the redneck idiot flamers who just come out and say "Don't elect a n!@@er". At least they're honest. Cowards like you lie about your motives but pretend to be concerned about Obama's character. Give me a break! All this from the party that gave us Bush.
why not read OKC Dem's post "McCain sat on a Ultra right wing racist board"
They need some more birdseed in here for the parrots.
the country does not deserve to be put in the hands of a glib and cocky know-it-all, who has accomplished absolutely nothing beyond the advancement of his own career with rhetoric, and who has for years allied himself with a succession of people who have openly expressed their hatred of America.
I agree - we never should have elected George W. Bush - too late for you to be sorry for that vote though. Oh - you didn't mean GW when you mean glib and cocky with zero accomplishments? Your a tool.
So you're saying Palin should not be on the ticket! We're in concurrence sir! That Alaska first party really bothers me too, along with the inexperience. Imagine, a small town beauty queen thinking that's the kind of experience we need in a leader. 5 colleges in six years to get an undergrad degree. Why, that woman's got book larnin!
No.....I guess we need a hotheaded, senile, out-of-touch old man and a hockey mom. By the way the "hockey mom's" that I know resent Palin putting them in the same class as her....oh, I forgot, she's also a member of the PTA. Sounds like a wonderful ticket!!!! Then you add to the wonderful personalities, the fact that they do NOT discuss their plans for improvement. I guess that's because they have none--everything is just great!! the economy is sound!!
SM-701919 - good point, except that Bushy was never actually ELECTED... either time.
Hockey moms actually ATTEND their children's games. Her son was shipped out to Michigan for a year and Sarah never once went out there to visit.
I have been a volleyball mom, a basketball mom and now a band mom.......I had never missed a game or performance since my daughter was in the 3rd grade.......the night of the 1st presidential debate......was the homecoming game........I ended up staying home to watch the debate......although my daughter didnt seem to mind.......I feel like such a schmuck for missing it.
Don't know how she could send her kid away and never visit.
I wonder IF all you liberals would care as much if Mccain Had served on board with Klan member....or held fund raiser at Klan members house?
Fact OBAMA served on Board with Ayers and used Ayers house to hold fund raiser.
This is a valid issue...the fact so many in the media , MSNBC, think its some how not a valid issue.....shows how scared Obama supporters are of this issue.
Sarah?!!! is that you?! Sweet fennel!!! It is you.......wow! You've memorized your talking points so well you can still recite them verbatim.
Impressive.
Oh, and by the way, Sarah, verbatim is pronounced VER BAY TIM and it means repeating what someone says exactly as they heard it or....or in your case cattle prodded until you remembered.
:)
Obama didn't serve on Ayers board, they both served on an anti-poverty board - the Woods Fund of Chicago. There's no indication that they were ever friends or close.
And there is a rabbi in Chicago who claims to have thrown the first political party for Obama. Not Ayers.
If you're going to state "facts" at least get them right. Hard to make correct decisions on exaggerations and lies.
It's guilt by association to say Ayers "palled around" with Obama because the two attended the same legitiate charity. Might as well say Palin went to a secetionist convention of which her husban is a member and so supports Alaska breaking away from the U.S. That's a heck of a lot closer than Obama's in both realtionship and time since Palin gave a speech at the secetionist convention in 2006. Should we dig out our photos of Rumsfield shaking hands with Saddam Hussein, and then a photo of Rumsfield talking to McCain ans say a secret message was being passe from Saddam to McCain? The Republican right has gone totally bonkers. Even their star quarterback Rove says Obama will win.
Chargerguy and all others who want to waste time on Obama's past acquaintances, colleagues and associates:
Do you want to have a decent job and a home and food on your table? Do you want your country to be at peace? Do you want your children to be able to get a college education? Do you want to be able to see a doctor and receive quality healthcare when you need it? Do you want the U.S. to free itself from the hooks of Mideast oil so we can breathe easier? Do you want the polar ice cap to stop melting?
These are the issues that matter, not Ayers or Wright or any of the other distractions being thrown across the road by McCain's strategists. Can you not see that the Ayers discussion is nothing more than a gnat in your eye purposely placed to blind you to the fact that all McCain/Palin can do is try to run down Obama because they have no solutions for you and your country?
Come on, people. Snap out of it.
