Rep. John Lewis, a Georgia Democrat and veteran of the civil rights movement, says the negative tone of the Republican presidential campaign reminds him of the hateful atmosphere that segregationist Gov. George Wallace fostered in Alabama in the 1960s.
Republican candidate John McCain on Saturday called Lewis' remarks "shocking and beyond the pale."
The Obama campaign said the Illinois senator doesn't believe McCain or his policy criticism is at all comparable to Wallace and his segregationist policies.
In a statement issued Saturday, Lewis said McCain and running mate Sarah Palin were "sowing the seeds of hatred and division, and there is no need for this hostility in our political discourse." He noted that Wallace also ran for president.
"George Wallace never threw a bomb. He never fired a gun, but he created the climate and the conditions that encouraged vicious attacks against innocent Americans who were simply trying to exercise their constitutional rights," said Lewis, who is black. "Because of this atmosphere of hate, four little girls were killed on Sunday morning when a church was bombed in Birmingham, Alabama."
One of the seminal events of the civil rights movement was the bombing of Birmingham's 16th Street Baptist Church on Sept. 15, 1963. Four black girls died in the blast, which was linked to a Ku Klux Klan group.
Late Saturday, Lewis released another statement saying it was not his "intention or desire" to directly compare McCain or Palin to Wallace.
"My statement was a reminder to all Americans that toxic language can lead to destructive behavior," he said. "I am glad that Sen. McCain has taken some steps to correct divisive speech at his rallies. I believe we need to return to civil discourse in this election about the pressing economic issues that are affecting our nation."
Lewis' comments follow widely reported examples of anger at McCain rallies that has been aimed at Obama, the first black man to be a major party's nominee for president. During some rallies featuring McCain and Palin, supporters have shouted "traitor," "terrorist," "treason," "liar" and even "off with his head."
The outbursts came amid a harshly personal line of attack against Obama by the GOP campaign. McCain and Palin have said Obama failed to tell the truth about his ties to 1960s radical William Ayers, had a radical agenda on abortion, and wasn't really known to voters. Last weekend, Palin signaled the uptick in the criticism when she charged that Obama was "palling around with terrorists," a reference to Ayers, and that he didn't see the U.S. as others did.
McCain drew boos at a town-hall meeting Friday in Minnesota when he defended Obama after a supporter said he feared what would happen if Obama were elected president. He also cut short a woman who said Obama was an Arab, and he called his rival "a decent, family man."
On Saturday, McCain called on Obama to repudiate Lewis' remarks. While dismissing the comparison to Wallace, Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said Lewis was on target in other ways.
"John Lewis was right to condemn some of the hateful rhetoric that John McCain himself personally rebuked just last night, as well as the baseless and profoundly irresponsible charges from his own running mate that the Democratic nominee for president of the United States 'pals around with terrorists,'" Burton said in a statement.
In his remarks, Lewis also said: "As public figures with the power to influence and persuade, Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin are playing with fire, and if they are not careful, that fire will consume us all. They are playing a very dangerous game that disregards the value of the political process and cheapens our entire democracy. We can do better. The American people deserve better."
McCain rejected any comparison to Wallace.
"I am saddened that John Lewis, a man I've always admired, would make such a brazen and baseless attack on my character and the character of the thousands of hardworking Americans who come to our events to cheer for the kind of reform that will put America on the right track," McCain said.
In August, while appearing at a forum on faith, McCain was asked to name three "wise people" he would listen to. He cited Lewis as well as Gen. David Petreaus, head of U.S. troops in Iraq, and former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, a top adviser to his campaign.
By the way...my #12 post....I meant some of the people on here (a lot of which do make nasty comments about MCCain/Palin) & vise versa, to a smaller extent.
McCain and Palin need not drop any bombs on Obama, his background and friends speaks for itself.....Forget for now about Bill Ayers, Obama has others in his pocket.
Not only did Barack Obama attend the America bashing Jeremiah Wright's church for 20 years, but he also has a long close friendship and financial association with suspected former PLO operative, Hamas and Hezbollah supporter, and Israel hater, RASHID KHALIDI. Obama funneled thousands of dollars of cash to Rashid's anti-Israel Foundation through his work on the WOODS FUND. In 2000 Rashid Khalidi justified Palestinian terrorism as contributing to political enlightenment, as he threw a fundraiser for his friend BARACK OBAMA. Khalidi glorifies anti-Israel violence and unsurprisingly admires those who carry it out. Khalidi's book, Under Siege, whitewashes PLO violence against Israelis and Lebanese, as well as the Syrian occupation. The LA Times wrote an article about Obama's association with Rashid Khalidi in April: It was a celebration of Palestinian culture, a night of music, dancing and a dash of politics. Local Arab Americans were bidding farewell to Rashid Khalidi, an internationally known scholar, and a special tribute came from Khalidi's friend and frequent dinner companion, the young state Sen. Barack Obama. Speaking to the crowd, Obama reminisced about meals prepared by Khalidi's wife, Mona, and conversations that had challenged his thinking. His many talks with the Khalidis, Obama said, had been: --consistent reminders to me of my own blind spots and my own biases... and it's for that reason that I'm hoping that, for many years to come, we continue that conversation — a conversation that is necessary not just around Mona and Rashid's dinner table, but around this entire world". The LA Times acknowledged it has a video of this tribute Barack Obama gave to the Khalidis at their going away party but won't release this video before the election.....It's hard to imagine that they would hold onto a video of Sarah Palin praising an anti-Israeli radical and former PLO operative…But, that is today's liberal mainstream media.
Oh! Yes, Obama has had his attorneys to not only stop videos being showed but threatend to sue the broadcast networks. I am going to retrieve the item and post it for you to see.
Obama is going to be president. Aint a lick of nothing you can do about it. Throw in the towel, it's over.
once again more fearmongering crap from the right wing nuts....give it a rest please. We are sick of it and you.
"Fear mongering" to liberals is TRUTH to everyone. Obama is so scared of everything he did in his past he has his liberal lap dogs barking loud in order to cover the truth. He HAS threatened to sue tv stations if they run any adds about he and Bill Ayres...Don't believe it??? Check out -- Now I'm SURE the Obamamamas will say...it ain't so.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Obama's a secret Muslim who's going to inflict sharia law on the country. And the moon is made of green cheese and the tooth fairy leaves quarters under children's pillows.
lol jojo
so in perspective,,,,lets say 100 people......
fear mongers =10
liberal sane folks= 90
um,. im thinkin the liberal SANE folks are more inclined towards truth.....look at the polls. mccains losing.
regardless, say what you will it won't change the fact that OBAMA is going to win. Try not to be a poor loser umm k?
He may be the next President, or he may not be the next President, but if he is, he is not going to do you one IOTA favor. His tax cuts (tax breaks) are not going to help a lot of people, but he can promise these to people with a smile on his face because he knows he is fooling you..........and according to the Polls he has fooled a lot of people.
The Truth has a Liberal Bias.....
Yes sir looking forward to a little change around here
Doyle Wheeler
I hope you are prepared for the change you will get if Obama is elected President. He isn't really promising anything in particular if you will notice, he says a lot of "STUFF", but he is just making speeches. I hope you too are ready for a Socialist Government. Sometimes we don't like what we wish for after we get it.
John McCain hasn't done or said anything about hatred, this is just an statement made from a man who himself must be full of hatred.
I remember the days of Governor Wallace I live in Alabama at the time, I remember the march by Martin Luther King, and myself I am glad to see the changes, so my reasons for not wanting Obama for president has nothing to do with the color of his skin, it is who his friends are, and they are bad people and he is easily influenced by them. It all started with a Mentor (Frank Marshall Davis) when he was young and he still likes to connect himself with people like him. So look him up and find a very interesting read..........
he says a lot of "STUFF", but he is just making speeches.
Barack Obama's Science [e.g. energy, technology] proposals
Obama Announces $1B Education Proposal, Would Double Funding For Charter Schools
Barack Hussein Obama II has proven on countless occasions to be supplying more than just "stuff" when he speaks to American voters. He has an extensive platform, whether you wish to recognize that or not.
John Lewis has fought for civil rights his entire life. He spent half his life being the victims of kluckers. Now he has earned the respect of every American. I don't consider KKK Klukers as Americans. I believe McCain and Palin need to be slapped down and they have been. Hopefully now we can have debate about the issues and then a smooth transition of Senator Obama into the White House. Thank you and good night
Edward Arnold any relation to Benidect Arnold? It Late I'll just you're full dog crap and a right wing nut to boot!
Nope!!! Benedict Arnold was British. My Great Grandfather changed the family name to Arnold from Arnheldt. But the name Wheeler brings up a memory when I was in the Marine Corps, they convicted a Private Wheeler of Cowardice Under Fire... any relation to you???
Not that I'm aware of but damn unless you're are an out and out lier you must be one old son of a gun. Sense the last person shot for cowardice was an Army Private in World War II and he was the only person of any service shot for cowardice in WWII with none since. Read a book before you make an idiot of yourself, oh yes to late for that! So what war were you talking about? Old old Marine dude. Changed your name usually people do that because they hiding something but no need to get personal! I'll be willing to my DD214 up to you or anyone not that medals mean that much, with all of them I have and I have pretty good size handful and $4.00 I can get Mocha. Peace old Marine Dude unless that's BS too!
Edward:
Actually, Benedict Arnold was not British. He was American. He would have been utterly useless were he British because he would not have gotten appointed as the commander of the fort at West Point, which he tried to surrender to the British. It should also be noted he was a hell of a fighter and, without him, the Americans never would have won at Saratoga which is what convinced the French we were worthy of aid.
I can see why your family changed its name, kind of like being named Hitler. But Jesus man, would it kill you to read some history?
Benedict Arnold and I have something in common. We both went to the same high school, Norwich Free Academy in Norwich, Connecticut. He did go there a few years before I did.
Scott Isaacs:
You are right...to a point, but if you recall George Washington, Benedict Arnold, and all of the rest that began the revolt were BRITISH SUBJECTS, since New England and the other colonies were under British rule, there was no United States of America until years after the revolt against the Kings rule, Revolutionary War. I guess I should have made the point clearer for the sake of those who don't know their history.
Doyle Wheeler:
During my lunch break I broke out a Leatherneck Magazine (July 11, 2006). In it it spoke of the Combat Action Ribbon (CAR) and how it is meant to eliminate a potential situation where a Marine demonstrates cowardice under fire or disobeys a direct order. So if a Marine shows cowardice under fire, he, or she, could be brought up on charges of disobeying a direct order (to engage the enemy). But to combat Marines it is still called --- cowardice under fire--- and William Doyle (2nd Mar. Div) may have been brought up on charges of disobeying a direct order (he backed down the hill we were taking and refused to go on), we look at it as him being a coward....So, maybe you were in the Army or maybe never served, but get your facts straight before you question a Viet Nam Marine vet.
Edward:
It is a fair point to make. My only point would be that after Arnold fought against the British in battle he became American and, therefore, even though he later became British again after he had switched sides he will always remain an American. He is certainly a study in contradictions and would most certainly been a revered war hero in America had he not changed sides... he did more to aid America's birth than perhaps anyone but Washington.
BTW, was your family related or just had the same last name by chance?
Negative that, my great grandfather came here from Germany, he hated Kaiser Wilhelm and even after here he hated Hitler even more. My grandfather joined the RCAF and fought against the German Luftwaffa. Our original name was Arnheldt but being a bit difficult to understand he changed it to Arnold. One of my relatives was General Harley "Hap" Arnold of Pennsylvania. He flew the first B-25 raid from carriers in the 2 W.W.
Hap Arnold was quite a warrior.
James Doolittle commanded the B-25 raid on Tokyo.
Henry "Hap" Arnold became commander of the Army Air Corps in 1938 and remained the senior Army aviator until he retired in 1946.
I guess you're right, the stories were told to me by my father and I guess this old Marine's memory surley slipped...thanks JoJo...How old does one have to be to have a "Senior Moment???
So you were a Marine in Vietnam we may have chewed some of the same dirt. You were right I miss read your statement I had a senior moment and thought you said the Marine was shot for cowardice. I'' sure there have been any number of Marines and members of the Army charged with disobeying and order or even cowardice but know in answer to your cheap shot question no I was never cited for cowardice. I did go in and bring out downed Marine Helicopter crew though once. They were much more appreciative of my service than you are. Most Vietnam Vets are my brothers but lets just leave that we would care for each other. But I'm still willing to to my dd214 up against yours anytime if you actually have one.
Doyle --- Okay, let's leave the sour attitude behind. Bless you for your service, and yes I ate some of the same dirt. I served with the 2nd. Marine Div. as a scout sniper, but as I am sure you will agree, that is all behind us (with the exceptions of a few scars). My son is in the Corps now, he's an instructor in Camp Lejune, N.C. at the very same sniper school I went through. I can't say how much I appreciated seeing a chopper come in to carry us away, and if I had gone down and my ass was pulled out by someone like you I most likely would have kissed you and today would still call you "brother" as I have to so many that were there when I needed them. Again Doyle, thanks...and "Semper Fi".
McCain is right, Lewis' comments are "shocking and beyond the pale." ( was he making some sort of pun?)
Isn't John Lewis part of the crowd of black 'leaders' that stabbed Hillary Clinton in the back? I think so.These people will say anything it takes to get Obama elected. They are shameless.
Isn't John Lewis part of the crowd of black 'leaders' that stabbed Hillary Clinton in the back?
Nope he didn't support Obama until Clinton lost Super Tuesday and it was clear that Hillary wasn't going to win.
They are shameless.
About as shameless as allowing people to yell "kill him" or "terrorist" and smirking instead of intervening.
People who want the complete picture need to check out

http://michellemalkin.com/2008/10/12/crush-the-obamedia-narrative-look-whos-gripped-by-insane-rage/
There is a cartoon image of a gun pointed at Palin's head, a photo of McCain changed to show blood dripping from his mouth like he's a vampire, a "Kill Bush" t-shirt, an explicit cartoon of a monkey taking a crap on John McCain's head, a button with a fake photo of a gun being held to Bush's face, various signs held by demonstrators suggesting Bush should be beheaded or shot dead, etc.
It is pure hypocrisy and the blatant refusal of the media to be fair that accounts for this incredible disparity in how these 'threats' are portrayed to the American people.
JohnRussell
Thanks for pointing out these sites, I checked them out and found them appalling. Where people's imagination goes for some reason always surprises me, I also heard that at one of the Obama Rallies someone shouted out that Sarah Palin should be stoned.
McCain is a man of honor who immediately chided his own supporters for yelling slurs at Obama:
McCain drew boos at a town-hall meeting Friday in Minnesota when he defended Obama after a supporter said he feared what would happen if Obama were elected president. He also cut short a woman who said Obama was an Arab, and he called his rival "a decent, family man."
Obama is a child, more interested in maintaining ties to all sorts of very questionable people (Alcee Hastings, Rev. Meeks, Rev. Wright, Louis Farrakhan, and Bill Ayers) because he can use them, and he's unwilling to man up and denounce the bigots amongst his own ranks:
On Saturday, McCain called on Obama to repudiate Lewis' remarks. While dismissing the comparison to Wallace, Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said Lewis was on target in other ways.
If by "immediately" you mean "a week or so later" then you're right. However, for most people "immediately" means "as soon as he knew about it." So McCain is nowhere near as honorable as you seem to think he might be.
As for the Hastings, Wright, etc. allegations, they were all brought up last spring by Hillary Clinton and debunked then. If you and your fellow Republicans can't keep up, please take notes.
Take your own notes. Follow the links to Obama's bigoted "friends," and tell me point-by-point, with references, why I shouldn't be concerned about Hastings, Meeks, Wright, Farrakhan, and Ayers. I've already done my own research, and Obama has not made clean breaks with any of these people -- he's been wishy-washy as usual -- so please spare me any speeches, rhetoric, or flat out inaccuracies.
Here's a glaring innaccuracy: McCain did so "immediately" because he told the wackos at the town hall meeting to shut their mouths immediately, right after their outbursts, at the time it happened, during the town hall meeting.
thedoctori:
The McCain/Palin campaign is unintentionally creating a fringe of the Republican Party that is going to have to be dealt with at some point with unknown consequences. That should not be papered over or covered up, people should know this. And McCain did not defend Obama until the other day, this has been going on for weeks. And Palin doesn't even bother to defend Obama which occasioned a large fight between her and Obama.
thedoctori,
Palin was attacking Obama as a terrorist for over a week before McCain "defended" him. If that's immediately then you have a very slow sense of time. As for your other slurs against Obama, as I said, Hillary Clinton brought them up six months ago and they were answered then.
But you don't care about having your rants debunked. You want four more years of economic failure, expensive but useless wars, and watching the country go down the tubes. But you and your boy McCain don't actually say that. You and your boy McCain can't argue the issues. So instead you and your girl Palin use sneers, half-truths, innuendoes, and flat-out lies to try to discredit Obama. Sorry, some of us aren't buying your BS.
Where have I minimized the wacko McCain supporters? Nowhere. In fact, I brought up the fact that McCain told his own supporters to shut their yaps. I called them "wackos." But nowhere do I see evidence that the majority of McCain supporters are bigots.
I see no problem with McCain calling Obama out on his "friends" like Bill Ayers, a "former" terrorist:
"Ayers and his education school comrades are explicit about the need to indoctrinate public school children in the belief that America is a racist, militarist country and that the capitalist system is inherently unfair and oppressive."
I do see a problem with Obama being unwilling to make a clean break with bigots like Ayers, Meeks, Wright, Farrakhan, and Hastings. There is such a thing as moral clarity, but apparently not for Obama. He got his education and started his career in a milieu of moral relativism.
(Saying that a few nutty McCain supporters are going to lead to a Fourth Reich is completely a stretch of the imagination -- sophistry.)
thedoctori:
The problem McCain has is that he'd rather lose honorably than win with the tactics at these Palin rallies and the people in his campaign that either came in with Palin or don't care how they win are forming a mutiny against him. Palin clearly doesn't understand how to be a stateswoman: she can't even stay within the bounds of acceptable negative campaigning.
Looks like someone also has a problem of ignoring comments that don't suit their agenda.
But you don't care about having your rants debunked.
You haven't debunked anything. You probably didn't even follow my links and certainly didn't tell "me point-by-point, with references, why I shouldn't be concerned about Hastings, Meeks, Wright, Farrakhan, and Ayers."
... as I said, Hillary Clinton brought them up six months ago and they were answered then.
Excuse me while I laugh. Ms. Hillary-taking-cover-from-imaginary-snipers-in-Bosnia Clinton. What a reliable source.
Exit stage left -- and click on the "Ignore This Author" button.
You're right, I didn't follow your specific links. That's because I've been looking at that same set of "OMG look at who Obama's been seen with now" sneers, innuendoes and lies for months. As I've said several times now, those same sneers, innuendoes and lies were brought out by Clinton during the primaries. But you were too busy following what the Republicans were doing to pay attention to the debunking of Clinton's sneers, innuendoes and lies.
In fact, you've proven that you haven't paid attention to what I wrote. I didn't say that Clinton debunked the sneers, innuendoes and lies, I said that she gave them and then they were debunked after she gave them. I take it that reading comprehension is not one of your strengths.
Go ahead and ignore me. I'm not surprised. Like most conservatives, you're afraid of the truth and hate to see it presented.
thedoctori
you some what right and then no. Being from the very heart of Dixie. There is a language or tone that is unmistakable. It is McCain fault only because Palin has no knowledge of the lower 48 states. Her tone plus she let things get out of hand. The sheriff in uniform was the eye shot. The mention of his middle name was the dog whistle! The mop was ready! Etc etc... Ya see Doc My Aunt is alive to day Only because the Preacher called her back up stairs before the bomb went off. And if you know anything about history then you know what church. We have learned what to look. YOU see sir you can afford to be dismissive but your safety is not in peril
The McCain-Palin campaign's worst mistake is to cater to racists... there are many more blacks and this will compel them to the polls all the more reliably. You lay down with dogs, you get up with fleas.
No you have it wrong sadly it's McCain that has clearly demonstrated that he has entered his second childhood. He won't and can't turn over his medical records because he would clearly be disqualified from holding the office of President. Saying he has a lot of senior moments is a kind way of saying he is in the early stages of the same problem that took President Regan from us. With Regan his came at the end of his presidency not before the start! I respect John McCain's service to his country and sadly he was forced to endure more than anyone should ever have endure. But that does not mean he should be President. He should be relaxing at home enjoying his children while he can still recognize them.
From today's Columbus Dispatch, an op-ed questioning whether Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, a Democrat, is trying to give presidential candidate Barack Obama a little extra help for the November elections. The plot keeps thickening...
Thanks for providing a link to another post which references a conservative newspaper.
However, until someone actually goes to court, it's nothing more than a tin foil article.
And this "McCain's Questionable Ties" isn't a "tin foil article?" The site doesn't provide the names of its authors, provides no information about who is publishing it, and provides no address, not even and email address.
The links/information I posted were from the LA Times, ABC News, CNN, the Washington Post, Investor's Business Daily, the BBC, and the New York Times.
The Columbus Dispatch, one of Ohio's top newspapers, is "conservative?"
The Colubmus Dispatch article doesn't reference "a conservative newspaper." In fact, the article explicitly documents the shenanigans of the former Republican Ohio Secretary of State.

Blackwell bent every single rule and regulation there was to deliver Ohio to Bush. If you are a Democrat here in Ohio, you consider this the spoils of war.
Blackwell was one of the biggest putzes ever to grace Ohio govt -- maybe besides that screw-up Taft.
I have to say I think that Bob Taft was one of the most ineffectual governors in the history of all the states. Also, Blackwell's losing margin to Strickland speaks for itself. I don't even remember a statewide election being decided by 25 points even when Republicans were completely and totally dominant in the state.
You obamanites are a lost cause. You cannot accept the truth about your false messiah.
Maybe you need to find a mirror... none of us are yelling "KILL HIM!" about John McCain.
Yes but we are going to be the majority and this time you won't be able to steal it. So cry in your beer joe it not a messiah we seek to elect it's some that doesn't wonder around on the stage mumbling to himself. A man with strong mind not a used up worn out mean spirted old fart!
i thank god that people have finally woke up and seen the lies you neocons have been force feeding them for so long.....WE SHALL OVERCOME
American Believer, what you on the right are missing, is that we on left are NOT looking to elect a messiah. We are looking to elect the best human to be our president, to uphold our beliefs, a good example being SEPARATION of church and state.
I think Palin is doing it on her own and McCain is not happy about it. It's starting to show on his face. People shouting such things are simply unruly and ignorant. By acting in such a way as to disturb the peace or inciting to riot, the people are able to be arrested and convicted. It should happen. This is not the way Americans feel. These people are reflection badly on the rest of us. It's not free speech when it's hate-mongering.
Now seriously what kind of President would he be if he can't control is VP running mate? Give me a break, he gave her marching orders but he had to write them down for her so she could remeber her lines.
what doyle said......
so now Obama is buddies with Farakhan...wow you guys are grasping at straws these days.
The fact is, only Obama and Joe Biden have run an uplifting, inclusive campaign, one with honor. They aren't perfect but compared to McCain/Palin, they might as well be.
McCain and the Republicans are trying to take the nation down with them, and hopefully the intelligent people left won't let it happen.
That guy with the 'obama monkey' is a sad, yet appropriate characterization of their base.
What's wrong with an Obama Monkey? Haven't you heard of such things as a "Rally Monkey"? Or was it that YOU made a direct mental correlation between Obama and monkeys? If you don't feel there's a resemblance between the two, then you shouldn't be so saddened.
You know, in a lefties overwhelming desire to be accepted by their peers and in order to show solidarity with others by making pandering comments, sometimes they put their foot in their mouth by exposing their own subconscious racial observations. How does that Nike taste, pablito?
If you don't know what's wrong with an "Obama monkey" then you don't know anything about the pre-Civil Rights South... heard the term "porch monkey"?
There are a lot more racist comments in these posts than George Wallace ever uttered. George Wallace was a States Rights advocate. Of course its politically correct to demonize the man as a flaming lyncher now but the fact is that he was one of the most honest poloticians of our time. Its a shame that these media/poll built characters like Obama and McCain with their "hope" and "straight talk" can't actually speak what is on their mind. It would be nice to know what a potential president's actual intentions really were before the election. That wont work though because all you politically correct types were breast fed on CNN. Ron Paul spoke the truth and nobody listened because they wanted to hear words crafted by a legion of professional speech writers and polsters. Thanks to you all we will elect a President whose agenda is hidden, regardless of which party wins. Comparing McCain to George Wallace is flattery, Wallace really did engage in straight talk.
I know the porch monkeys that you are referring to. I think we had one in my yard growing up. So...Did this guy that pablito was referring to have one of these porch monkeys with Obama written on it? Pablito didn't say the guy had a porch monkey. He said he had an "Obama Monkey"! I swear, for being such "tough guys", blacks sure do have thin skin and whine alot at every perceived slight. Get over yourselves.
Representing a black man as a monkey is like calling him a porch monkey.
I'm a white man. You talk awful tough... can your ass cash the checks your mouth writes?
I speak my mind, whether on a computer or in everyday life. I'm 42 years old and I've been able to cash every check my mouth writes. Like you, I'm white also. That said, in alot of ways, I'm just like many blacks. I have pride in my ethnicity and also like blacks, I stand up for my race if needbe. I do not chose to live by a double standard where I must walk on verbal eggshells around others while listening to my people get verbally trashed. Others speak their mind and so do I. I get offended sometimes but thats life. Others probably get offended by my words as well, but they'll get over it just like I must do. The difference between myself any many younger whites is that I have not been cowered and intimidated into silence by minorities. I was not taught in school how white folks are evil and how I must carry around some imaginary white guilt for things my ancestors did in years past. Maybe this is why I don't appease the namecallers. Also, I live in a conceal carry state and should I ever get in a situation where I can't cash that check that you speak of, I have back up options. I would never take someones 1st amendment rights from them, and NOBODY will take my 1st amendment rights from me. Regardless what race they are. My constitutional rights don't end at their thin skin.
Ron:
Let me try to illustrate something to you. Let's say that I said your mother was a whore... and the reality of the situation (for argument's sake) is that she was a prostitute. That would probably make you pretty angry, angry enough to shoot me I imagine. (There's concealed carry in Ohio too, so don't get any bright ideas about using your little friend on me... I have a .45. Oh, and if you try to kill me you better do it with the first shot because if you try to kill me, one of us will end up in a pine box) Well, magnify that anger and humiliation ten times and that's how a black person would feel when their best-known representative is being referred to as a "porch monkey" at Republican rallies. Not only did whites get to call them that freely and derisively, they also got to own them as chattel for 200+ years and didn't let them vote for 400 years. If you think you have anger issues, you don't even want to contemplate the anger locked up inside a black person when white people taunt them.
May I apologize to you Mr./Ms. Wheeler for all the decent kind folks for that person you are bantering with. Sir/Ma'am; it is not worth it.
I am so sorry. Just get a good night's sleep. Nov 5th will come soon and this will be over and hopefully the one candidate who has been threatened will remain safe.
Elaine:
I hope so. This country can't take another Bobby or Jack Kennedy deal.
Doyle and Scott,
Listen up, Internet warriors. Our words do not scare each other and you know as well as I do that we will never meet. In my job, I'm pretty sure that I've gone face to face with some bigger and badder dudes than you two are. I've worked areas at night that you two would @!$%# your pants if you came within a mile of in the daytime. I spent years dealing with gang members up close and personal, of all ethnicities. So before you tell me how you're going to bash teeth in or pull .45's on me, understand something. I still have all my teeth after 15 years on the job and I've stared down the end of a gun before.
As far as your claims of racism, save it, my man. Those words only work of PC-minded liberals such as yourselves. I shed my white guilt years ago.
Ron:
Hey big man, you're the one that told me there's concealed carry in your state. That's a veiled threat at minimum right there. You're right, our words don't scare each other... and the possibility of your presence does not scare me. My family's from Owsley County right next door to "Bloody" Breathitt County in Kentucky so what I will not tolerate is a threat from anyone. I don't care how big you are or how many gun barrels you've stared down in your life, once we meet you will be wanted by the law or done. You may kill me, but I'll be damned if I'll be threatened by the likes of you.
We clear, cowboy?
BTW, it's really unfortunate we couldn't have a rational discussion here. I was trying to relate how black Americans feel about slavery and you tell me you carry a gun. I hope it's made of chocolate because you'll be eating it if you try to use it on me.
What's wrong with an Obama Monkey?
Discrimination Against Blacks Linked To Dehumanization, Study Finds
"Despite widespread opposition to racism, bias remains with us," Eberhardt said. "African Americans are still dehumanized; we're still associated with apes in this country. That association can lead people to endorse the beating of black suspects by police officers, and I think it has lots of other consequences that we have yet to uncover."
BOYS!!
How about we take that little testosterone fest off the public vine? The rest of us would like to have a rational conversation about the issue at hand, and not have to listen to a bunch of overgrown teenagers trying to convince each other how "big and bad" they are.
I'm reporting all of you, by the way - for inflammatory posts.
You are right you have a first amendment right to show the world what a damn piece white trash you are. If you take an offense why don't you look me up and we'll see if your big mouth can cash the worthless white trash checks or if you'll need some of that welfare dental work you've likely been getting all these years. After I beat your butt though you have to agree to let me burn that Hitler tattoo off your forehead!
Whoa.
In my job, I'm pretty sure that I've gone face to face with some bigger and badder dudes than you two are. I've worked areas at night that you two would @!$%# your pants if you came within a mile of in the daytime.
Hey fellas...uh...
I don't care how big you are or how many gun barrels you've stared down in your life, once we meet you will be wanted by the law or done.
FELLAS!
Ron, Scott, and Doyle, stop ITG'ing. No more. Message amongst yourselves or something.
To Tyler-The Moderator,
If you will go back and look at the context of each comment, you will see it began when I commented on thin skin. This drew a response about my mouth writing checks that my ass can't cash. My comment about living in a concealed carry state was in response to this. As far as any direct threats, I made none. Unlike invitations from Doyle to meet up and bashing teeth in and Scott telling what kind of gun he possesses.
My response to thin skin is a personal observation. Does this make my comment racist for pointing out this observation? America is not a college campus where free speech is suppressed. Obviously Newsvine can do so, but this does not change my vast observations regarding blacks and thin skin. And if pointing out my observations makes me racist, then so be it. Like I said in an earlier post, being called a racist does not cower me. This word is used merely to silence discenting viewpoints and therefore, this tactic no longer works on me.
Thank you for your wonderful website.
Rep Lewis' comments are spot-on, and if McCain thinks they are shocking, maybe it's time he sit down and view/listen to the trash and attitude he and Palin are fueling.
Yes, John McCain, you and you VP pick are spreading a message of hate, and it is shocking and appalling. There is no room in the American Dialogue for THIS dialogue. It has gotten too bad to take back now - that's why the audience that is looking for someone to hate booed your attempt to turn back the tide the two of you have launched.
If you can't screen the crowd to prevent this kind of dialogue, then don't speak. Cancel the rally and let it be known it's because of the atmosphere of threat and the smell of blood. But let's face it - Palin thrives on it and you aren't able to turn your back on supporters who agree with you...which gives the proof to Rep. Lewis's statement.
Very well stated and spot on, I'm glad America has someone of John Lewis' caliber to stand up and say what so many honest decent American that don't have a public voice have been trying to say for the last two weeks. Now we must pray that it's not to late that some nut bag doesn't take the seeds planted and trys make a statement because their worthless life is much like that of some of the race baiter we've read on hear.
Peace, a foreign word in America for sure but let me step out on this HUGE limb folks, if you please but first (apologies to anyone I did not answer, I had to get away for a while); it is all so heated and so disheartening... but now............
Did anyone at all realize (and first SENATOR BARACK OBAMA IS NOT A MUSLIM). He may have been fathered by a man whom he did not know who was from the continent of Africa, studied in America and MAY have been of the Muslim faith as that is the popular faith in that area of the world, such as there are other popular faiths in other areas. Obama was raised by white persons and embraced Christianity and has kept that faith.
Now again, (I keep saying that, huh?)
But did you all realize that
1. Every Muslim is not a terrorist
2. Every Jew does not eat kosher or observe the traditions
3. Every Christian does not go to church on Sundays and Wednesday evenings
4. Every Registered voter does not vote
5. Every teacher is not good to or for students
6. Every military person does not see action in the theater of war
7. Every Hindu does not bow to the little princess goddess
8. Every Buddist does not chant
9. Every Black is not illiterate or a thug
10. Every Caucasian is not affiliated with the KKK group
and I could go on and on and on. There is no every in all things in this great fabric of humankind in the huge world.
We must stop with the "every" thinking or we will digress into the past and never see our way to the future of true freedoms and passions about what we feel. Can't we all just get along................... one day? Is that too much to hope for? I hope and pray not!
Perhaps not in my life time but every can be a very dangerous word.
I am a survivor of the Civil Rights movement, a veteran of the Vietman and Persian Gulf war eras, wife, mother, grandmother, college graduate, southerner, traveler - such a large compsite and.......... I am an American.
God, please bless America! OBADIEN!
Thank you! Truths that were very well said.
What did you all do to RonBlacks66? He is one of the angriest people I have seen on any of these news article posts. WOW! He is actually scary. I'd sure hate to meet him on a dark night. And I am seriuos. I thought that type of fear was over for me but apparently I was and am sadly mistaken.
Mr. Obama I pray so hard that nothing happens to you and I am so worried. I absolutely hate to see that horse down Penn Ave during that procession with the boots turned around backwards. Such a sad sad sight. I've seen it twice, Mr. Kennedy and Mr. Reagan. Never again America, never again. But people like Mr. or Ms. RonBlack66. Chill and shivers, that is all I feel. Good night. Thank God for God!
I share your concern about Ron Black 66 perhaps I should not of called him out but I'm white and frankly I'm sickened that any white man in the year 2008 would speak the way he speaks.
I share many of your experiences tough I'm sure my being white has made some of them easier on me. I fought in Vietnam with a unit that 90 percent black men. All putting their lives on the line the same as me. They saved me I saved them. We bled together after being wounded I noticed as I laid along one of my fellow black soldier waiting for medivac as our blood ran together I could not tell his from mine.
I was a law enforcement officer that wrote a white officer up twice for racism and burtality, the officer stopped a young black man a muslim that had no criminal record whatso ever. He started beating the young man in front of many witnesses a second officer joined in the beating and they told the young man they were going to kill him. In a struggle for one of the officers gun the two officer were shot and one died. The young man was put on trial for murder. I was subpoenaed by the defense and I stood up and told the truth that I had written the officer twice for racism. After two trials the young man was finally aquitted. Of course my career was ovr and I was black balled from working in law enforcement. That was not enough a few months later I was bound shot in the head and left for dead.
So I know what kind of people are still out there and it scares the heck out of me for Senator Obama and for our country. If some one is crazy enough to murder him this country will come apart at the seams in a time when it needs to come together more than ever.
When I go to bed tonight and every night I will say an extra prayer for Senator Obama his family and for our country. My God bring us together in yours and my life time!
Bless you, bless John Lewis bless the Senator and his family and as hard as it is for me to say this may God bless Ron Black66 and open his eyes to love instead of hate!!!!
S. Elaine Jones,
I'm not really angry. I speak my mind just as others do. I'm sure you take pride in your people, just as I do mine. This election has simply caused verbal viciousness from both sides. I was fed up with all the back and forth bantering months ago and am surprised that I still find myself commenting on it. I guess its because thats all there is on the internet nowadays until after the election. In all honesty, it looks like Obama will win and I definitely wish no ill will on the man. I would never advocate the death of anyone, and certainly not our president. And I'm with you when you say that you'd hate to see that horse down Penn. Ave. I hope that he can turn things around. Lord knows we need it after the debacle that was George W. Bush. I would not have too high of hopes, however. Regardless who's ultimately elected, there's just no way to get out of an $11 trillion dollar national debt. We are merely biding our time until the final crash and burn.
As far as my chosen candidate, he was out of the presidential race early on. I am neither an Obama nor a McCain supporter. Therefore, I will be throwing a protest vote for president which will ultimately help Obama. I will then vote for congressional leaders that can hopefully prevent the erosion of our constitutional freedoms and keep me from being taxed out of my home.
As far as meeting me on a dark night, no need to worry. If you were to ever meet me, it would be because I was there to help.
Thank you for that. And if I needed help and you offered; I'd accept. Check back later to this article; I may want to give you the courtesy of a full response but I've got to get ready for church now (I am the church clerk/pastor's secretary and on the worship team, so I 'spose I oughta get there somewhere close to on time) {giggle} and I only have one lung so it takes me a bit longer to get everything done. I was slow before this little inconvenience but I'm REALLY slow now but once I get moving; I'm cooking with gas.
God's blessings to our country, our posters, our candidates and to you Mr. Black and Wheeler.
I do thank you for the civility. I like the digs and jabs, but when it gets...... but that is now water under the bridge. And, oh, btw, with this bum lung; I'd probably need more help than even I know, but it's all good. smile, giggle, ha!
Everyone have a wonderful day and a great time posting. Let's see what else the media will give us to rumble about. :)
Ron:
I'm glad you want no ill to come to Obama. Would you prefer we start over from the comments above or not?

We can only hope and pray that those who are influenced by this hatred and those who are bigots and worry about a person's color instead of country are in the minority. In this day/age, it's pitiful that there are any but not surprising of course. Who else but the Moral Minority would reach into the hate/fear of people? They have always been hypocrites and this exemplifies it perfectly.
I pray that my country will vote for an honorable man who has the middle class in his focus. He has helped this group before. He is not all talk. He will help those who are not wealthy. He will take some of the benefits away from the huge corporations who have been making tons of money. After 8 years of dishonest and horrific plans for our country, it IS time for change and that would be OBAMA.
Although we may differ on thinking who should be the next President of the United States of America, Tell me through these differences what can we do together to advance the agenda of America?
What can we do?
1. TO: restore our favorable standing in the World
2. end the violence in this country
3. assist those living below the poverty lines in this country
4. restore our finanical institutions and confidence in the markets
5. educate our children so they are competitative in the world markets
6. recognize all colors of our faces and label them as Americans
What I am essentially saying is, look at the real work that needs to be done,.
-pick your mark and make it....
This is our country!
1. Act always with dignity and respect, even when acting toughly. Understand before speaking, avoid inflammatory speech at all costs. Seek the agreement of allies before plunging ahead. And always, always, be certain that decisions of consequence are backed by reliable, cross-checked intelligence.
2. Reach out with compassion, understand before you react with fear, hate and violence. Never rise to the occasion.
3. Broaden the opportunities for all. Invest in developing the industries of tomorrow. Actively train and employ the underprivileged, and provide incentives for education.
4. Regulate the behaviors that led to the collapse of the financial system. The market does not effectively regulate itself.
5. See point three above. Reward excellence in teachers. Encourage more to enter that noble profession. Make quality education more accessible to the previously disenfranchised.
6. Actively seek out acquaintances from the groups you may fear. We are all cut from the same cloth, so to speak. Despite different colors, heights, ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, faiths -- we are the same people. Always praise tolerance, and always condemn hate and bias.
Just a few suggestions.....
A great man said," united we stand, divided we fall."
If we continue down the road we are on now........
The finger pointing, name calling, etc. has to stop.
Campaigning is poor entertainment at best, but what is being said is broadcast world wide. Don't you think all the people that want us to fail and fall apart is just loving what we are doing to ourselves?
Every American should think about the good of the majority, the good of the nation!
Stop thinking of just ourselves and start making this nation good, and strong once again!
The greatest danger of all is to allow new walls to divide us from one another.-Barack Obama
Well, notwithstanding my good intentions, I feel compelled to point out another outrageous divisive event involving the McCain campaign. This in Iowa, on Saturday. The rally began with an prayer, by Rev Arnold Conrad, past pastor of the Grace Evangelical Free Church.
“I would also pray, Lord, that your reputation is involved in all that happens between now and November, because there are millions of people around this world praying to their god - whether it’s Hindu, Buddha, Allah - that his opponent wins, for a variety of reasons,” Rev Conrad said.
“And Lord, I pray that you would guard your own reputation, because they’re going to think that their god is bigger than you, if that happens. So I pray that you will step forward and honor your own name with all that happens between now and Election Day.”
Response from the Iowa McCain campaign: “While we understand the important role that faith plays in informing the votes of Iowans, questions about the religious background of the candidates only serve to distract from the real questions in this race about Barack Obama’s judgment, policies and readiness to lead as commander in chief.”
One wonders whether any effort was made to vet the Rev Conrad?
Now, back to the issues......
Or more to the point -- why was not effort made by the campaign to call it as it is, namely, divisive at best and bigotted at worst. This kind of speech needs to be rebutted, vigorously, every time it occurs. To do less is to belittle the dignity of all Americans, regardless of creed.
John Lewis, thank you and God bless you for your courage. American politics has reached its low point at McCain/Palin rallies. McCain and Palin are correct to say that they cannot control all the wingnuts at their crowds. But what they can do is to is to stop their speeches when they hear things that cross the line. When someone in the crowd yells out "kill him" with respect to Obama, they should immediately stop the rally and call this out. Yet, when you watch these rallies and can actually hear these comments on U Tube and you see McCain and Palin continue on with their speeches as if nothing happened, they become co-participants with that person who made the comment. And don't tell me they couldn't hear the comments. If I heard them on U Tube, then they could certainly have heard them at the rally. One can see that McCain frowns when he hears the comment, but he then goes right on with his speech. Shame on John McCain!
JUST A FEW FACTS;
1. THIS ALL STARTED WHEN OBAMA SUPPORTERS ENGAGED IN COMMENTS MADE ABOUT SARAH PALIN. I DID NOT HEAR ANYONE COMMENTING THAT THE WAY WE ARE COMMENTING EVERYTHING THAT MCCAIN SAYS THAT IS SURE ONEWAY.
2. OBAMA STARTED BY BRINGING OUT ALL OF THIS TALK ABOUT LOBBYISTS ARE IN THE MCCAIN CAMP. SO WHAT I SEE IS THE WAY OBAMA FIRED UP HIS SUPPORTERS AND DID NOT GET ACCUSED OF THIS SO CALLED RACISM.
3. WHAT THE BOTTOM LINE IS YES THE ECONOMY IS ON EVERYONES MINDS, WE SHOULD NOT FORGET THAT THIS COUNTRIES SECURITY SHOULD BE NUMBER ONE, WE HAVE SHOWN AS AMERICANS THAT WE CAN WEATHER THIS STORM, BUT LOOK AT WHAT IS GOING ON WITH RUSSIA, VENUZUELA, IRAN. IF WE FAIL IN SECURITY WE WILL NOT HAVE A ECONOMY TO WORRY ABOUT. SO JUDGEMENT ON WHO IS A INFLUENCE TO ANYONE WHO WILL HAVE CONTROL OF THE MOST POWERFUL COUNTRY IN THE WORLD AND CAN BE PERSUADED TO OR BE ATTACHED TO ANYONE WHO WOULD THINK OF HARMING ANYONE WE HAVE A BIG CHANGE ALRIGHT COMING ON AND IT IS NOT GOOD SO IF ANYONE THINKS THAT MONEY IS EVERYTHING AND SECURITY IS BACKSEAT THINK AGAIN
Can somebody explain to me how you can engender racism that threatens death against a white man?
Gotta head out the door, Scott, but do a Google search on "The Zebra Killings" and "Yahweh bin Yahweh". CrimeLibrary website has good information on these. While you are there, do a search on Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom. WOW! And we though James Byrd was treated poorly. Wait until you read the torture that 5 blacks put 2 white college students through. And this happened in 2007. I wonder why the media didn't make a big deal out of this crime like they did the West Virginia black lady tortured by whites a few months later. Very similar treatment, other than the fact that the black lady lived while the TWO white kids died. But I digress. Lastly, look up The Wichita Massacre and read the details.
In these you will find cases where white people were targeted because of the color of their skin, then died at the hands of blacks. There are many other cases as well, but I don't have time and could not possibly list them all. Safe is to say that if we are to all get along, 21st century blacks need to do their part as well and drop the inner anger thing. We will never make it as long as one race is bending over backwards to appease and the other never acknowledges their attempts to right past wrongs. So it is everyones responsibility, if unity is truly desired. And that means calling out the black brothers and sisters that make derogatory comments about whites, just as Doyle did with me. I don't see blacks chastising their own. I heard nobody stand up in Trinity United and chistise Rev Wright. What I heard was alot of cheering. So, no double standards and no excuse making for the Trinity United's out there. Whats good for one race is good for the other. Because if double standards are allowed, as they are now, some in the one race will eventually get tired of it. This is where many whites are now.
We will never make it as long as one race is bending over backwards to appease and the other never acknowledges their attempts to right past wrongs.
Ron, you've got some serious problems. So what you're saying is by not lenching African Americans that's bending over backwards. I don't know if you didn't know this, but YOUR SUPPOSE TO TREAT EVERYONE WITH REPSECT... IT'S NOT A FAVOR!!!!... IT'S WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO DO!!!!
I don't see blacks chastising their own. I heard nobody stand up in Trinity United and chistise Rev Wright. What I heard was alot of cheering. You don't see it because you aren't looking. As for Reverend Wright, while some of his tin foil consipiracies were definately off base, his anger and the place for which is comes is justified. But I guess trying to understand where he's coming from is "bending over backwards" so unfortunately you'll never understand.
Ron:
If, indeed, Barack Obama is elected POTUS then I think you may see that anger start to wane and slip away because many black people may feel they have finally cleared the final hurdle to equality: the elected leader of the country is a black man.
Also, there are white people that criticize the lack of a black nuclear family and how many black men make babies but don't raise them. Obama has firmly addressed that and said directly that they must be more responsible. So, I think if any white person argues this they should vote for Obama because he can make that argument far more persuasively than any white person could. Possibly even more effectively than Bill Cosby since he would be the country's leader.
On a side note, I would point out that the cases you highlighted involving black-on-white crime were investigated. For 400 years, lynching was treated as a sport in the South. It was rarely investigated and never prosecuted. At least those white victims got their day in court and that is a comfort that a great many black victims never had.
How can we all move forward when one race insists on looking back? And in some instances, 400 years into the past.
Answer: We can't. Until this anger over historical grievances are laid to rest against citizens that had nothing to do with the sad chapter in our history, we can not move forward. Whites have TRIED to remedy these past wrongs and many blacks have benefited. Some chose instead to live in the past instead of taking the opportunities that they have had since before I was even born. This is the "bending over backwards" that I was referring to. Affirmative action, minority set-asides, minority hiring quotas, minority contract set-asides, and on it goes. Many blacks are successful in this society, therefore the ones that do not succeed are because of their own poor choices in life. Just as whites that don't succeed are to blame for their own shiftlessness and lack of motivation.
The day that the Rev. Wrights and their ilk stop perpetually reminding new generations of blacks how evil whites were and still are, is the day blacks will see that most whites truly hold no ill will towards them. Preaching this crap to 21st century blacks does nothing for them other than to build anger into someones heart that otherwise would have never been angry.
Ron:
You don't see much black anger in the under-30 set... as we move forward and there are not generations that received the treatment that Wright's generation did I think that new bonds will be forged and peaces will be made.
Scott,
But there is definitely WAY too much anger out there in the under 30-set, and most of it is not due to their own lifes experiences. Its due to the older generation, such as the Jeremiah Wright's, constantly reminding these young people how things were in the past. Black preachers (and politicians such as Rep. John Lewis) constantly "sow the seeds of hatred". It's like they don't WANT to get along with whites, and they don't want the next generation to do so either. Stirring the racial pot to keep animosity alive.
How else does Jeremiah Wright fill his church to such capacity? And how many parents bring their young children to sit in the pews and listen to all the Jeremiah Wright's as they vent their "truths"? Obviously Barack and Michelle Obama did. Even if their comments, made in 2008 America, have a hint of truth in them, their words are deeeeepppp and should not be planted into the young, impressionable ears of those children that attend and who must try to make their way in 21st centrury, multicultural America.
I agree with you that new bonds can be forged and peace can be made, but only if the Jeremiah Wright's, found in virtually every city in America, are repudiated and discredited every time they attempt to remind younger generations that they have a justified reason to hate whites. Unfortunately, no black (whites can't do it because most are petrified of the being labeled a "racist") seems willing to stand up against them and tell them that what they are doing is just plain wrong and does not foster this peace and unity between the races that many aspire to achieve.
If a white preacher were to preach to his church of the present black crime rate and how this negatively affects whites everyday, the Doyle Wheeler's of the world would be picketing this church with charges of racism and divisiveness. When will the (black) Doyle Wheelers's begin to speak out against their own? Other than Barack Obama (and only after 20 years, when it suddenly became politically necessary to do so), nobody in the so-called black community has stood up and said, "Enough"!

Rep. Frank plans economy stimulus bill in November
Sun Oct 12, 2008 11:03am EDT
. WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Rep. Barney Frank said on Sunday he will put together an economic stimulus bill when Congress returns to session after the November elections, while a key Republican said he would support the effort
Frank, chairman of the House of Representatives Financial Services Committee, said on ABC television that he would begin work on the stimulus bill in November in a "lame duck" session.
Rep. Roy Blunt, the Missouri Republican who serves as House minority leader, said he would support a stimulus plan if it did not include a massive public works program and budget bailouts for states that overspent on health care and other social programs.
"A stimulus plan that makes sense is something that i'll be helpful with," Blunt said, also on ABC television.

Lets write to the journalists who wrote the below articles and alert them to our hardships, that the economy is even worse and will not be able to create jobs for months. What happens to a million unemployed Americans with families? . Where do we live when we are evicted from our rented apartments or houses? Or lose our mortgages ? Why don’t our children need food, and medication? We don’t count as mainstream America? Aren’t we rich enough for him to count us?
Will we live in our cars? Do we go dumpster diving?
Are we just a bunch of whiners as Phil Gramm, McCain’s future Treasury Secretary called us just 3 weeks ago?
Bush said no to unemployment benefits extensions for us and McConnell supports him?

ALSO..Pelosi is holding a meeting tomorrow to discuss a new stimulus package. We need to call her yet again.
Some may find my words odd. I don't think John McCain is racist (not really). I think Sarah Palin could possibly be. But, my point, as I mentioned on another vine and hope it's okay to restate, is that inciting fear and violence is not in itself racism. The capacity to incite fear and violence is worse - for it's soley for self serving purposes.
Racism is based on ungrounded fear and lack of understanding. The capacity of an individual to feed any fear based agenda (racism, terrorism, etc) for self serving purposes is beyond despicable. And THAT'S what the McCain campaign has been doing. Sarah Palin uses the word fear like salt. Innuendos, half-truths, lies - all of it to create an image that can easily be "played" upon. Many independents and some republicans have caught on - and refuse to be "party" to it. The more people recognize it - the more they will turn away. Because it also acknowledges that John McCain and the Republicans "in power" don't think we're very smart - they count on it. (Need I say Bush/Cheney?)
