McDonald's Corp. said Wednesday its third-quarter profit jumped 11 percent, propelled by strong same-store sales both overseas and in the U.S. The nation's biggest hamburger chain is doing better than many restaurant companies as consumers economize on dinners out.
Here's a breakdown of the quarter's sales report:
_Globally: rose 7.1 percent.
_U.S.: up 4.7 percent, helped by sales of Big Macs, Southern-style chicken products and beverages.
_Europe: jumped 8.2 percent, with sales strong in virtually every market.
_Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa: increased 7.8 percent due to breakfast sales and value offerings.
