Todd: Hispanics could put Obama over the top

advertisement

TON - If Barack Obama goes on to win the election, there will be plenty of ink and video spent on chronicling the historic nature of the turnout among young voters and African-Americans.

But as important as both constituencies have been to Obama — particularly in the primaries — it's Hispanics that could be putting him over the top on Nov. 4.

Obama's dominance among Hispanics in the West is proving to be the difference maker in Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico. In addition, the increased numbers of non-Cuban Hispanics in Florida, as well as the growing Hispanic population in North Carolina and Virginia, could be the tipping voting group in those three states.

So how did this happen? When this general election began, there were three pieces of evidence cited to develop the conventional wisdom that Obama would under-perform with Hispanics:

As it turns out, Clinton won the demographic because she courted them heavily and used Bill Clinton to campaign as a familiar advocate for Hispanics.

As for McCain, despite his best efforts (as well as that of President Bush and Karl Rove), the Republican brand has been tainted, potential for the long-term, due to the negative tone of the immigration debate that took place on conservative talk radio and in the presidential primaries.

In fact, McCain's immigration stance was so damaging that it is what nearly derailed his candidacy in mid-2007, not Iraq as the campaign sometimes likes to claim.

McCain ended up backing off a bit on his immigration stance. And to many Hispanics, it may have looked like McCain chose his party over his convictions on the issue.

As for Hispanics' willingness to vote for African-Americans, this was about as tested of a premise as the so-called "Bradley effect." Too many analysts went with their gut or with one example in one big city, rather than truly examining whether there was prejudice between Hispanics and blacks.

So here's what we know, Obama has held a strong lead among Hispanics for weeks. In our NBC/Wall Street Journal poll, we've been oversampling Hispanic voters all year so we could track this important demographic.

For weeks, Obama's been at 65 percent and McCain's hovered around 30 percent. If Obama nabs just 62 percent or better of Hispanics, he'll surpass the Gore total from 2000. And right now, he seems virtually assured of that.

Anything 65 percent or above for Obama probably locks in the three western battlegrounds of Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico, narrowing McCain's path to 270 that much more.

Could McCain have changed this? On paper, the answer is yes but in reality, maybe not. While the Arizona senator was careful to trumpet his immigration stance to Hispanic audiences, he rarely talked about it in other venues for fear of raising the ire of conservatives who had been riled up on the issue by talk radio.

McCain already has been down this road once before; He didn't want to do it again. But, long term, the GOP really does have a growth issue. As Karl Rove preached in 2006, the GOP cannot afford to start losing Hispanics by the margins they lose blacks.

In fact, take out Cubans and George Bush's over-performance among Texas Hispanics, and Obama could be getting close to making Hispanics — more or less — a base Democratic voting group.

The long term consequences of this Hispanic problem for the GOP isn't just about this electoral map, it's about its future in a number of states, most importantly Texas. At a 65-30 clip among Hispanics, or potentially a 70-30 ratio of winning Hispanics, Democrats could start to see Texas within reach by 2016.

There's no easy solution for Republicans. Wooing Hispanics is going to start with simply looking less scornful of immigrants. McCain never acted or looked scornfully at illegal immigrants, but the perception among Hispanics is that his party has.

In addition, the real opening for the GOP with Hispanics won't be with culture issues (though a few inside the GOP insist this is the case). The real opening for the GOP is with the party's rhetoric on small businesses. If the party can go back to being the party of small business and the party of the entrepreneur (which it isn't right now) then they should find themselves back in the game.

But as long as the party is painted as hostile to Hispanics, they are unlikely to listen to other GOP policies with which they might agree, like taxes and abortion.

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. I have to say I am completely and thoroughly sick and tired of the "<insert group here> will decide this election" BS.

The only group that will decide this election are the registered voters of the United States of America.

Too bad people can not get over Palin being a women and being a go get her. Most men are afraid of a women that can thing for themself most men believe in having there women bare foot and pregnant. If mother's had the same attitide as most voters feel about electing her there would of been a lot of abortions.

The issue is not over Sarah Palin being a woman....had Mr. McCain selected someone of Ms. Clinton caliber,( or Madeline Albreight)...there would be no objections.

The objection is, Ms. Palin comes with strings....and should she become President, Mr. Karl Rove, Mr. Rick Davis, and their ilk will be right there to pull them, because she is corruptable....look at the charges brought against her in her home state by the Alaska Supreme Court.

Our Lady of Guadalupe in a cathedral in Mexico City, is one of the most venerated images world-wide in the Catholic Church.  Although hundreds of years old, it is on  cactus fiber which should have come apart after a few decades. Those who have examined the image cannot explain how it was placed on the cactus tilma. Whether one chooses to believe the story of how it came to be, the icon itself is something which to this day cannot be explained.

According to those who have studied the image, she is “with child”. This is significant, because as you may or may not know, the Aztecs sacrificed infants as part of their religious rituals. Our Mother was saying then as she is now “quit killing these innocents." To those Mexican people to whom a strong faith is an important part of their life, she holds a special place of veneration.

Anyway ,the  people of that time "got the message". I  hope to God we do.

Are you aware that McCain believes in Abortion in case of incest, rape and if the mother's life is in danger he said so himself on the View look up the show on You tube and see it for your  self.

Obama said that exact same thing so when it comes to that women's issues they are the same.

I guess it would be alright with you if women started using wire hangers to abort right? the Church need to give them a choice teach them about Birth Controls that is a sure way to save Babies.

One difference from McCain is... Obama fought to stop legislation in Illinois that would have required medical aid be given to babies that survived late term abortions.   They were left to die in dirty linen closets or where ever as a result of Obama and those like him that don't even seen an alive baby as something worthy of life.

          Jim not true
There was a law on the book that already protect the baby as a matter of fact there were Medical Doctors who did not want to go against their Oath and other Republicans who signed this bill as well because they knew that  a law already existed to protect the baby. Go to fact check or Google it you will get the right information. Besides didn't you see the last debate Obama Cleared it up completely.

Not true Linda.... Obama did not clear it up.... He voted 3 times to kill bills that would have required medical aid to babies that survived late term abortions and now wants to try and smooth that over.  If there was already a law on the books that protected those babies then there would have been no harm in him voting for the bills and nurses would not have given evidence before Congress that babies that survived abortions were simply not given aid and died as a result.

Ok Jim there is a law on the books that protect those babies already and besides that law the Doctors are bound by their Oath so to say that this could be done is not true. The reason he voted against this law is because you can not have more then one law to use as precedence in a case and Obama being a Constitutional Lawyer knows that. But your leaving out that other Republicans voted agaist  this law also and so did Doctors. Go check it out.

There is nothing that says you cannot have laws that overlap or multilple laws  covering the same issue.  There are tons of them.  OBAMA said at the time.... that he voted against it because he feared it would weaken Roe vs Wade.  At the time he did not use ANY other excuse for what he did.   Everything said now is just smoke screen to try and cover up what he did.

I wanted to tell a quick story of something I tried the other day.

In a local restaurant my server had on a "Obama 08" tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference--just imagine the coincidence.

When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.

I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.

At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient deserved money more.

I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application.

Fact check: Obama said he would 'spread his wealth around'?

Wha.' And you know what Senator Obama had to say to Joe? He wanted to spread his wealth around. He wanted to spread his wealth around."

                    Get the facts!

                    The Facts

Sen. Obama had been campaigning outside Toledo, Ohio, on October 13 when he met Joe WurzelbacherOctober 18, 2008

                    t did Obama say?

                    The Statement

Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain, during a speech on October 16— 10, 12 hours. I want to buy the business I'm in, but you're going to raise my outside Philadelphia, recounted the story of "Joe the Plumber," a man who held a conversation with Democratic candidate Sen. Barack Obama and who became the surprise star of the candidates' October 15 debate when McCain gave an account of the story. McCain said the man told Obama, "'Look, I've been working all my life taxes, 34, who works for Newell Plumbing & Heating Co., a small firm in the Toledo area. "I'm getting ready to buy a company that makes $250-270-80 thousand a year," Wurzelbacher said. "Your new tax plan is going to tax m more, isn't it?"

Obama explained his tax plan during the roughly five-minute exchange — telling Wurzelbacher that the tax rate on the portion of his income that was more than $250,000 would be increased from 36 percent to 39 percent. But he also mentioned that his plan includes a 50 percent small-business tax credit for health care and a proposal to eliminate the capital-gains tax for small businesses that increase in value. Obama said his tax plan, which he said focuses on bigger breaks for people making lower incomes, would be good for the economy. "If you've got a plumbing business, you're going to be better off if you've got a whole bunch of customers who can afford to hire you," he said. "Right now, everybody's so pinched that business is bad for everybody. And I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."

Wurzelbacher said, "The reason I ask you about the American Dream, I mean I've worked hard. I'm a plumber. I work 10, 12 hours a day and I'm buying this company and I'm going to continue working that way. … I'm getting taxed more and more while fulfilling the American Dream."

In an interview with CNN on Thursday, October 16, Wurzelbacher said he had misunderstood Obama's plan and that the company he wants to buy makes well less than $250,000 a year — which Obama says means his taxes would not be increased.

                    The Verdict:

Misleading. McCain's remark was an oversimplification of a five-minute-long conversation. Obama replied in great detail about his tax plan, and the "spread the wealth" remark was one small part of the conversation.

Obama will not say what size business (number of employees) that he will REQUIRE them to offer medical coverage for employees and their families.  Even with a 50% tax credit (that is not all new... medical coverage is partially deductible already) the business has to come up with the other 50% which increases costs tremendously.  While some businesses can afford it, others will go under leaving people unemployed.  It took me several years to build a business before I was not the least paid of all the employees.  I worked longer hours, risked my home and put everything on the line to open go into business for myself.  Employees could leave anytime they wanted, I couldn't.  Most employees would NEVER work the hours or take the economic risks I took to own a business.  Obama talks about things in general he does not give specifics.  He is like every other Democrat through the years... I won't tax you I will tax the other fella and give you his money.  Sooner or later your the other fella because the big money will have left the country and opened businesses in other countries.  Money seeks the best business environment.  Which is why Ireland is booming with industry locating there while our corporations are moving out of the country.  We have the second highest corporation taxes in the world.  The corporations just pass that on to consumers when ever possible.  However, if they are competing on the world market for customers it makes their products more expensive and they either move or go broke.  So when Obama says he will increase taxes on businesses and the wealthy... wave bye bye at them when they move your jobs somewhere else and just be satisfied that if they had stayed..... Obama would have taxed them more.

                      Support Small Business

                      • Provide Tax Relief for Small Businesses and Start Up Companies: Barack Obama and Joe Biden will eliminate all capital gains taxes on start-up and small businesses to encourage innovation and job creation. Obama and Biden will also support small business owners by providing a $500 “Making Work Pay” tax credit to almost every worker in America. Self-employed small business owners pay both the employee and the employer side of the payroll tax, and this measure will reduce the burdens of this double taxation.
                      • Create a National Network of Public-Private Business Incubators: Barack Obama and Joe Biden will support entrepreneurship and spur job growth by creating a national network of public-private business incubators. Business incubators facilitate the critical work of entrepreneurs in creating start-up companies. Obama and Biden will invest $250 million per year to increase the number and size of incubators in disadvantaged communities throughout the country.

                      Labor

Obama and Biden will strengthen the ability of workers to organize unions. He will fight for passage of the Employee Free Choice Act. Obama and Biden will ensure that his labor appointees support workers' rights and will work to ban the permanent replacement of striking workers. Obama and Biden will also increase the minimum wage and index it to inflation to ensure it rises every year.

                      • Ensure Freedom to Unionize: Obama and Biden believe that workers should have the freedom to choose whether to join a union without harassment or intimidation from their employers. Obama cosponsored and is strong advocate for the Employee Free Choice Act, a bipartisan effort to assure that workers can exercise their right to organize. He will continue to fight for EFCA's passage and sign it into law.
                      • Fight Attacks on Workers' Right to Organize: Obama has fought the Bush National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) efforts to strip workers of their right to organize. He is a cosponsor of legislation to overturn the NLRB's "Kentucky River" decisions classifying hundreds of thousands of nurses, construction, and professional workers as "supervisors" who are not protected by federal labor laws.
                      • Protect Striking Workers: Obama and Biden support the right of workers to bargain collectively and strike if necessary. They will work to ban the permanent replacement of striking workers, so workers can stand up for themselves without worrying about losing their livelihoods.
                      • Raise the Minimum Wage: Barack Obama and Joe Biden will raise the minimum wage, index it to inflation and increase the Earned Income Tax Credit to make sure that full-time workers earn a living wage that allows them to raise their families and pay for basic needs.

yes the website that we read to figure out what obama stands for, why and what he plans to do.  Its been up for months.  While McC/P has been spreading their fear, Obama has been talking about the issues.

I don't agree with it all, but I do most.  And I like that I know what he stands for from one day to the next.

McCain was against the Bush tax cuts, before he was for them

Who knows what McCain will be for next week, but who can blame him when his economic advisor wrote the legislation that turned wall street into a craps table.

That police officer in Alaska should be fired.  Would you want a police officer on your local department that would use his stun gun on his ten year old child?

Jim Palin was accused of Abuse of Power and found guilty of such. She totally broke the trust of the People the voters who put her in office. It does not matter what the officer did Palin did not have Jurisdiction over him or the office of Law Enforcement. She committed Abuse of Power by using a Government Office for a personal vendetta. Palin May now be sued by the Officer or The official she fired for Abuse of Power in a Civil court and all of her e-mails including the ones she is hiding 1,200 will be use against her.

It was said that Palin abused her position but that she did have other reasons for firing the man she fired and that she had the right to fire him as well.  The police officer she wanted fired, threatened her family and even stun gunned his own child.  That police officer should have been fired and his boss was crazy to not fire him.  Do you think that police officer should still be in his position?  I don't.

Again from a legal point of view it was not her call Palin had not right to take the case on her self that went to the Enforcement Government Agencies. The branches of government were put in place to protect the Citizen and Palin went against that, she let her husband in areas that were meant for Government Personal Only and she took it upon herself to be Judge and Jury of this Officer that is illegal and unethical too.

As for the Police Officer that was the Job of the Internal Affairs and Law Enforcement to handle not Palin is not her Jurisdiction.

Its amazing that people forget that the only non immigrants are native americans, and depending on what the time scale you look at, mexicans.

Just a few years ago, McCain felt Bush's tax plan unfair because it hut the middle class and benefitted the wealthy. Now that McCain has changed his position and  Obama is saying the same thing, Obama  is a "socialist". Obama is not trying to punish anyone except maybe those who hire overseas rather than within the U.S.

What is so dumb about this is Reagan had to be a socialit right. Because the 3% tax reversion was set by Reagan at 39%. It is now 36%. It expires in 2010. After it expires the top will go back to paying 39% again. These same dollars are then going to the other 95% of Americans that pay taxes. This red herring is just because if they talk about the economy they lose.

On this tax break LOL the bottom 5% got 820 bucks in ten years it was in effect. The top 5% got 297000 bucks in ten years sound fair?

Linda it is clear you have never owned a business and have no idea about their taxes or income.  You have no idea about employment taxes or the cost of benefit plans for employees.  There is already a deduction for insurance but a business is not required to offer it like Obama is going to require.  A 50% tax credit means the business still has to come up with the other 50% to pay for the coverage and older workers will cost the most thus making businesses want to get rid of their older workers.  Things are never as simple as Obama makes them look.  Politician are all good at showing you the icing on the cake but not the mold inside the cake.  It looks great but its just not edible sometime when you slice it and take a closer look.

Most of the people I know who have small business don't hire full time workers not even Walmart hires full time the majority of their workers are part time. In case you have forgotten workers also pay part of their health Insurance today so that 50% number you give does not exist. The icing on the cake come from McCain who is still giving the big corporations and oil companies as well as Wall Street billions in tax brakes. Its time for the Middle who have been carrying the tax burden for 8 years now to reap the benefits and for Big Corporations and Wall Street to pay its fair share.

Two hispanic fourth graders in class today got into a fist fight over the argument their parents are having about which sides of the family will be smuggled over first before Obama is elected. When the children were interviewed separately about why they were fighting, the little boys both said that when Obama's elected their cousins don't have to be on a waiting list and neither do their parents anymore and everyone will get to be american then.

12 million added to our Health Care and welfare system Americans, INSTANTLY, and that doesn't count the millions that are sneaking in now and will be in the next months to get on board the free band wagon. Now what do you think the Dangerous Huge Mexican Drug Cartel will do with their already exsisting Methamphetamine Centers stationed in our big cities? The Large and growing Deadly Mexican Gangs working for these Drug Cartel Centers?

Do you know what my 80 year old grandfather, who is a very kind, non racist retired hard working man, told me today after catching a bit of an Obama rally on tv for the first time? He said "I hate to say this, but do you know who Barack Obama looks like and sounds like to me? I remember those days, and he reminds me of Hitler". This is coming from a good hearted man with no bias or interest in this election. He doesn't watch tv regularly, he doesn't drink and he doesn't smoke. It shocked me that he would say such a thing, but I know he meant it from his heart, he just saw and was immediately reminded of days gone past in history.

Obama is using the same mind-emotion control of propoganda manipulation in his speeches and campaign ads that Hitler's entire momentum and structure was built on. The worst part is Obama is also planning to put into place the same government structure as well. Obama is Not a Good Thing Americans. He is what he is.

Well , the writer should know he and NBC and MSNBC have been in Obama's pocket for the past year. By the way, where is the tape of Joe Biden ranting at one of his fellow reporters? Where is the story that Obama's campaign has frozen the station from any future info about the Bama and Biden? The Nazi agenda is already being planned by the DNC.

McCain linked to group in Iran-Contra case

Organization had ties to former Nazi collaborators, right-wing death squads

Retired U.S. Army Major General John Singlaub(front), speaks to reporters as then-Secretary of Defense William Cohen looks on in July 21, 1998. Singlaub founded the controversial U.S. Council for World Freedom, which was dedicated to stamping out communism around the globe. Singlaub says McCain became associated with the organization in the early 1980s

WASHINGTON - GOP presidential nominee John McCain has past connections to a private group that supplied aid to guerrillas seeking to overthrow the leftist government of Nicaragua in the Iran-Contra affair.

McCain has said previously he resigned from the council in 1984 and asked in 1986 to have his name removed from the group's letterhead.

"I didn't know whether (the group's activity) was legal or illegal, but I didn't think I wanted to be associated with them," McCain said in a newspaper interview in 1986.

Singlaub does not recall any McCain resignation in 1984 or May 1986. Nor does Joyce Downey, who oversaw the group's day-to-day activities.

"That's a surprise to me," Singlaub said. "This is the first time I've ever heard that. There may have been someone in his office communicating with our office."

"I don't ever remember hearing about his resigning, but I really wasn't worried about that part of our activities, a housekeeping thing," said Singlaub. "If he didn't want to be on the board that's OK. It wasn't as if he had been active participant and we were going to miss his help. He had no active interest. He certainly supported us."

Here is one non-Cuban Hispanic not voting for Obama.  I still cannot understand why many hispanics vote democrat.  Democrats are often the party that rewards those who do not work as hard.  Democrats are the party of abortion on demand with is contrary to the teachings of the Catholic church of which many Hispanics are a part of.  If this is about the immigration issue, both candidates are pretty much the same on that issue.  I was not impressed by he Spanish commercials Obama put out misquoting Rush Limbaugh and trying to tie him to McCain.  Obama thinks that Hispanics are stupid.    If they are going to discuss Hispanics as a voting block then I will ask the question, when the Democrats have been in power, what have they done for Hispanics?  Hispanics owe nothing to the Democrats.  All they are going to try and do is spread your wealth.  Don't believe them for one minute that a tax increase is only going to affect the rich.  It is just smoke and mirrors.

The truth about Obama's birth certificate.
                                                      Summary
In June, the Obama campaign released a digitally scanned image of his birth certificate to quell speculative charges that he might not be a natural-born citizen. But the image prompted more blog-based skepticism about the document's authenticity. And recently, author Jerome Corsi, whose book attacks Obama, said in a TV interview that the birth certificate the campaign has is "fake."

We beg to differ. FactCheck.org staffers have now seen, touched, examined and photographed the original birth certificate. We conclude that it meets all of the requirements from the State Department for proving U.S. citizenship. Claims that the document lacks a raised seal or a signature are false. We have posted high-resolution photographs of the document as "supporting documents" to this article. Our conclusion: Obama was born in the U.S.A. just as he has always said

The Governor of Hawaii has said no one may look at Obama's birth certificate.. so how did these folks do that.  Also as for the one on Obama's web site.... you never authenticate any document from examining any kind of copy.  I am not saying Obama is anything but an American.  I do find it strange his lawyers did not walk into that court room... give one to the judge and end the whole thing rather than file briefs etc. to keep from having to provide anything.  Obama won't even open his medical records even after his supporters claimed John McCain to be hiding something and he opened his medical records and supplied over 1500 pages of them.  Obama's first response to everything is to not disclose anything.  I find that troubling.  I guess because he is a lawyer and his wife is a lawyer they see everything in legalese.  The problem with our country now is there are too many lawyers everywhere and way too many in Congress.  I would say serving in Congress except they are serving themselves in Congress.  I don't like John McCain very much... I just like Obama even less.  I will say I do admire McCain for not taking any earmark money.  He has stuck by his guns on earmarks.

Tom.. I totally agree, theres a reason why there is a waiting list. How else can American keep up and continue to make the chnages it needs to provide for everyone wanting to become a citizen if it isn't done at a rate that's possible?

Not to mention this is to insure that they speak english, all immigrants coming in and becoming us citizens, that way the schools, emergency services and economic work structure remains useable and American and unnaffected by overload. The quality can remain high and grow higher in education when it's all one language in the schools.

We have to keep the American English language a priority in public use and operations, it's what all other countries do when they take in immigrants, it's the only way a country can remain productive. When you call 9-1-1 you have to understand that it is not possible or feasable to have different language centers, it doesn't work that way. Our schools also need to be able to retain high quality by keeping to the countries language.
After all, becoming a us citizen is because you LOVE and believe in The American dream and way of life, Not to USE IT and Destroy it.
America has never asked migrating legals to give up their heritage and we havce embraced many happily, and they respect and love being Americans in return.

Our waiting list, tests and language requirements are no different that all other countries for that very reason. We are in fact the most lenient.

Jim, on Obama's birth certificate on his site? Thats not an official birth certificate, it is a Registration Of Birth. A legal document which anyone can file a petition to get with a few relatives signatures and it only says that you were Born, period.  I know a bit about these things. My daughter was born in Belgium, and she has a Certificate Of Birth Abroad as a US Citizen which I had to go to the US Ebassay to aqquire, and bring her hospital birth records with me for proof of where she was exactly born, in which town and which hospital.

The judge that got Obama out of this on a technicality (of course the same pattern following the ayers felony charges) will not be the last court to see this. You watch.

If they are going to discuss Hispanics as a voting block then I will ask the question, when the Democrats have been in power, what have they done for Hispanics?

Well considering that the Republicans have been in control of both houses of congress for most of the period 1995 to 2006 and that there has been a repulican presidnet for the past 8 years the Democrats have not had much opportunity.

But I have to say that I am more than a little suspicious when someone named TOM gets on this site and champions Republicans for Hispanics.   LOL......  we all know what a friend of Hispanics that Rush L is.  Why dont you tell Hispanics here what the Republicans have done for them except fail to stop illegal immigration.

The Democrats have controlled Congress for most of the past 60 years at least.  I will agree the Republicans did a poor job during their 8 years too.  I compare the Republicans period of control with the Democrats period of control and lay most of our problems at the Democrats door.  However, I am not saying that had the Republicans been in control for the longer period that things would be better.  No one could know that.  Both are politicians and mostly lawyers.

Democrats have not had much opportunity or the will to do anything except complain about Bush.  As far as the Republicians that were in controll of both houses during that time frame, I was glad when they lost control of congress.  They had were mad with power and left the ideals of conservatism.   Pretty much what the Dems did when they controlled it last.

Ha ha chingon.  So you don't like my name?  I could carel ess.  I can see by your comments that you would like to continue the myth of a Hispanic voting bloc as if I need to be named Tavo or Carlos in order to have a formed opinion.  What exactly has Rush done that was unfriendly towards Hispanics?  Championed enforcement of our current immigration laws or was it being against rewarding those that came into the country illegally with amnesty?  I will tell you that with Repulicans in power, the ammount of illegal immigration has been greatly reduced and we have done more to strengthen our borders that during any time prior to this adminstration.

Perhaps everyone needs to closely examine each and every "initiative" that Mr. Obama and his staff have "managed" in the State of Illinois. Look at his track record and consider with honesty what he has done or not done in the US Legislature prior to his higher aspirations. Fear this choice more than the unfortunate alternative. We are up the river without a paddle.

We all know the misery socialist politics have brought to our countries in central and south America. We come here looking for a better life and opportunity. If this was available in our countries we would still be there. Are we going to allow the same thing to happen to this country that has happened in Venezuela, Cuba y Bolivia? CLARO QUE NO!!  MIS HIJOS NECESITAN UNA MEJOR OPORTUNIDAD Y DEFINITIVAMENTE NO ES CON UN MODELO SOCIALISTA!. ( of course not. My children deserve a better opportunity and a socialist model won't provide it)

Any one who takes money form the tax payers to provide wealth and prosperity for Big Corporations and Banks is a Socialist and the Republican have been doing this for 8 years and McCain voted with them 90% of the time not only that but he was known as The King Of Deregulation on DC. So my dear Ivonne it looks like you have been living with a Socialist Government all the time :)

Obama and Representative Barney (do it again) Franks.  Big corporations provide a lot of jobs to Americans.  General Motors, Ford, and on and on.... and you want to raise their taxes and expect them to stay in business competing on the world stage with some of the highest corporate taxes in the world.  Exxon etc. only make about 4% profit on a gallon of gas while the government makes over 16% on a gallon of gas.... and Exxon has to pay taxes on those profits... just who is making the most of gas... its not the oil companies.  By the way... don't forget that Obama says gas should stay up over $4.00 a gallon to encourage alternative energy.   He said taxing it more was a good way to keep the price up and give the government more money at the same time.   Tell me that the middle class won't pay more taxes again.

Also please review what happen during the period before the Great Depression, some fool was president  and increased taxes , increased wellfare and bang we had the Depression instead of a reccesion. Linda you believe the man owns you something , well it does not. Go to the IRS site and look at the tax tables. Here what is mine is mine and nobody can come and say that I most give it away. A tax rate of 40-50% is excessive and success should not be punished.

Okay, let's look at it logically.  You are a Hispanic enjoying a cold beer in your backyard working on your car.  You reflect on all the great opportunities this country has provided for you and your family.  Wow! This is the best country in the world.  You hear on the radio that the Hispanics vote may determine who may be the next President of the United States.  Now here is the opportunity of a lifetime to payback the debt.
You cannot help but read the paper and see the Immigration people rounding up illegal Mexicans and deporting them without even caring for the families they leave behind to care for themselves.  You also read the comments from all those legal citizens of the "not Black and not Hispanic" ethnic group. You turn the page and read the 20 foot fence under construction on the Mexican border is moving along.  It is to keep the Mexicans out of the USA.  Then you read of the Para-immigration pot belly wannabe vigilantes dressed in faded camouflage pants talk from the Mexican border as if they are saviors of the land.  Then you read of the drive to have the "English language" as the official language of the USA and those unable to speak English will be deported.  The last page of the paper tells you as a Hispanic your vote could put either candidate for President to the top.
Today you go into the voting booth you get help on the use of the touch screen computer.  The helper points to two buttons on top of the screen labeled Democrat and the other Republican.  He tells you if you press the "Democrat" button you vote for all the Democrat candidates and if you press the "Republican" button you vote for all the Republican candidates.
Hmmm if I vote for the Republicans things go on as is, but if I vote Democrat, this guy Obama with his friends will do a job on the rich and not so rich people.  The Blacks will then begin to really imitate their teachers and start pushing the "non Blacks and not Hispanics" to their breaking point.  Knowing that the English language will now be placed on the back burner and the "Kenya dialect", the new Obama Language will come under National consideration.  The new fashion wear will be the low baggy pants exposing the $50 underwear.
One button will bring a fraction of a second of joy the other button means things will continue as usual after the riots, the burning and the vandalism.  Your finger goes for the Democrat button, you can feel it get hot as it nears the screen, it begins to shake as it gets closer and closer, you remember all those nasty things said of you, your family and your ancestors, and hear a little voice payback, payback, payback.  Just as sweat drops are getting on the computer you think of all the good opportunities this country has provided for you and how they can be available for your children you wake up.
                                                                                              Which button will you push?

I am Hispanic and used to be a Republican. Even though I was born here and am a Veteran ,I still identify with my Latin culture. I left the Republican Party in part because of their immigration stances. It just seemed kind of Anti-Hispanic and it was enough to make me switch . A lot of Hispanics are no longer voting Republican for the same reasons. If you aren't for us,then you are against us. It's that simple. I have traveled the world, known people of every nationality, creed, color, and type. The only time that I have encountered racism has been here in my own country, the same U.S.A. that I served for so many years and went to war for.  Two white rednecks laughed at my fathers accent, they didn't know what to do with themselves when I confronted them. At the time I was body building and was a very solid 240lbs. I asked them how many languages they spoke, only one (*and poorly). I informed them that my father might have an accent but that he speaks 6 languages fluently and as a Doctor did a whole lot more for this country than their whole illiterate families ever did. I let them leave in one piece. Anyway, the whole point is that I believe that those types are who the Republican Party is now trying to court. Ignorant, fearful, low class people. They can have it, I'm proud to be a Democrat,a party for ALL Americans, not just the white ones.
