You people just cannot see the writing on the wall, even when its falling on top of you.  The man your putting in the highest office of the land has a complete disregard for the law, constitution of the united states, and the history of our forefathers.  This is a perfect example of how a law degree at harvard means nothing, just the opposite even.  This is a huge snafu for him.

Very interesting timing on this story about Obama's half aunt on his absent-father's side. The article said that, "The AP could not could not establish whether anyone at a political level in the Bush administration or in the McCain campaign had been involved in the release of information about the case." The Republicans are desperate folks! I'm sure stories will soon start to appear that Obama is somehow responsible for whatever his aunts misedeeds are -- just look at Getoutandstayout's comments in #1.3 above! I'm sure glad people don't judge me based on what my extended family does. I mean, I have a second cousin who had a DUI recently!!!

This whole story is just a big exclamation point on his campaign.  I find it funny and summarizes him perfectly.  Take money from american citizens and give it to those from other countries.  He has already said he wants to cut the world's poverty by giving america's money away.  To me this is a big deal.  If it gets any real media coverage, I'm sure it will be a big deal to many others as well.

Too damn many! We have immigration laws for a reason. To Obama's credit, he said throw her out if the law says that is what should be done... not in so many words, but he said appropriate laws should apply. Also he claims he did not know she was here illegally, which is likely true... after all, he sat in Wright's church for 20 year and didn't have a clue what he was saying. He doesn't seem to know too much about what goes on around him. Hopefully, when he is President he will pay more attention.

People who enter the country illegally are sent home daily. His aunt entered the US legally and was given a permit to stay here when she applied for asylum. Her case is on appeal, so she is in a state of limbo right now while her appeal works it way through the courts. So, dozens of people in her situation are not sent home every day. And none of those people have their information released to the press, because it's private -- and her case is irrelevant to this election, no matter how much you want it to be. What is relevant ot this election is whether or not the information regarding her case was released by somone in order in the hopes that it might influence the outcome of the election.

Gipper, it was decided and good for her if she can stays, the hidding facts is what's very curious.  The lady was good for being used in his book and how much was his duty.

What's very interesting is how easy Obama distant himself from whoever was in his life and it's found out by the American people.

As for hiding facts, nothing was hidden. It was all there for the immigration people to act on. Sounds to me like she was just one more person who just slipped through the cracks in our immigration system, which needs serious overhauling.

This is clearly something to make Obama look bad!  She should be given due process of law and let the immigration courts decide whether or not she can stay.  I don't think for one minute he is about to disregard the law for her.

And now this woman is having to be guarded, because some idiot leaked out her story because of who she is.  That is criminal in itself and if they find the person who did it, they should be punished.  This situation, with the times we live in, could put this woman in jeopardy, and that is just not right!

Who the frick cares?  It's obvious to me that this story was leaked to the press just days before the election to try to stir things up again.  McCain and his cronies will stop at nothing to demonize and try to discredit Obama.

I have distant relatives.  Some might even be here in the US, but I have no idea where they are or even who they are or when they  would have gotten here.  Am I to blame for any kind of hot water they get themselves into?  No!  Why should Obama be held responsible for what a distant aunt has done or hasn't done?

Hey I found out two years after my mother's death that she had once been arrested 10 years earlier for DUI on the way home from a birthday party. stayed over night in jail. bailed out by a friend, went to court, paid a fine. She never did it again. it was never spoken of.

Don't forget, Obama's aunt began by asking for asylum. She had to come here legally right? She didn't come here stowed away or through a hole in the fence. She just didn't go back home. how she was able to remain, and in plain sight is a question to be asked and answered. She obviously has not spent time with Barrack or we'd all know it by now. I'm sure that as by the book, as legally as it can be done, she will be granted asylum.  After all, how would it look to the world if the President's aunt was deported and possibly killed.

When you give money to a charity, the money is no longer yours and neither are the things the charity purchases with it. And it wasn't theft of drugs for pain, but to satisfy her addicition. She's a multi-milionaire, so she did not have to steal. She could have paid a doctor to give her the drugs or the scrips. (Which would have been illegal, too, but at lteast wouldn't have involved theft.) She has admitted that herself. Plus it was theft of drugs and prescritions, so it wasn't even simple theft, but breaking our nations drug laws. How can you excuse that illegal behavior?

I just heard Barack Obama compliment Sen. John Glenn while holding a rally in Ohio.  Was John Glenn not also one of the "Keating 5"?  In fact, after the Keating 5 investigation, John Glenn and John McCain were both found to have done the same thing.  Lay off the Keating 5 references.  Since John McCain and John Glenn were found to have done the same thing during Keating 5, and since John Glenn is worthy of Barack Obama's praise, the Keating 5 outcome is therefore a non-issue for John McCain.

So to sum up, is she supposed to get documented so she can collect welfare or is she supposed to work till she gets documentation which means she's stealing another American job, which I know some people hate.

So of course we hate when people applying for asylum, aren't working, because they aren't legally able to do so. She both needs to get a job and be deported. Better yet, she needs to work for INS and deport herself.

She has been living here on a request for political asylum. (Things are volatile now in Kenya.) So, she was a legal resident. Then a judge decided against her request, which technically nullified her residency. However, she appealed the judge's decision, so it sounds like technically she has an extension until her appeal winds it way through the courts. In other words, she is probably in a sort of legal limbo until the case is resolved. If it is finally resolved in her favor, she will be allowed to stay; if not, then she will be deported at that time.

And basically, who cares? How does this effect what needs to be done about our economy and the Iraq war and things we should be considering when voting?

I agree with April.  My wishes to deport this lady has nothing to do with whether she is somehow related to Obama or not.  That's not the point.  The fact is that she was denied asylum FOUR YEARS AGO, yet somehow has been able to remain in this country, living on the public dole.  Enough is enough.  If the government wants to raise taxes, the least they can do is show us that they will be spending these taxdollars wisely.

Far from blaming Barack Obama for this, I blame George W. Bush's confusing immigration policies.  Think about it.  While ICE was raiding chicken plants and rounding up illegal working immigrants for deportation, this lady that just so happens to be related to Barack Obama has been able to remain in our country illegally and living off our taxdollars.  The fact that she was not deported under GWB's watch rests squarely on him and his wishy-washy immigration enforcement policies.  It remains to be seen how Barack Obama deals with illegal immigrants that are a burden to our nation rather than an asset.  Therefore, Obama deserves the benefit of the doubt at this time.  If it turns out that by electing Barack Obama, we've elected GWB to a 3rd term with regards to immigration enforcement (or the lack thereof), then he will receive the same scrutiny.  I know Obama SAID that he is for open borders and amnesty, but so did Juan McCain through his legislative positions.  

If we're going to deport illegals, then we should begin by deporting those that take from our government tax coffers and offer us nothing in return.  We're asked, "Who's going to pick the lettuce?"  Apparently not THIS lady.  She's a drain on our system and offers us nothing by her presence but another mouth to feed at U.S. taxpayer expense.  She is but one of the millions that do the exact same thing, and taken as a whole, these people overburden, bankrupt, and/or dilute the effectiveness of social programs that were put into place to help truly needy AMERICANS.  And it's not like they didn't know where she was after her asylum was denied.  She was sitting in taxpayer funded government housing for at least the past four years.  She is just one example of how empathy for illegal immigrants can result in our system being taken advantage of, and I blame this not on Barack Obama, but on Republican president George W. Bush.  There are many others that will not make the headline news, but are just as guilty of draining our U.S. taxpayer funded social services.  And since we are so broke that we must once again ask our citizens to pay more in taxes, will the next president at least show these taxpayers the courtesy by putting a stop to this wasteful spending?

We are projected to have 450 million people in this country within 30 years.  Up 120 million from our current population of 330 million. 

If our infrastructure is failing at 330 million, whats it going to be like in 30 yrs?  If our roadways have been expanded, yet are still clogged at 330 million, whats it going to be like in 30 yrs?  If hospitals are overcrowded now with 330 million, what will they be like in 30 yrs?  If our schools are overcrowded with 330 million, what will they be like in 30 yrs?  If we must reduce more greenland in order to build more residential areas at 330 million, whats it going to be like in 30 yrs?

40 yrs?  50 yrs?  60 yrs?

The analogy of, "I tell 2 friends and they tell two friends and they tell two more friends, and so on, and so on......" applies as well with the rate of growth in our population.  If our population expands by 120 million people in just 30 yrs, how many people will those 450 million people produce?  And how many people will those peoples people produce?

An ever increasing birthrate spells trouble for any nation.  Why do you think it is that China has regulations regarding reproduction?  Is this what you want here in America?  Because if you don't, famine is as sure to set in here as it is in other overpopulated areas of the world, such as Africa.  We cannot sustain this rate of population growth at its current level.  We will all suffer with our quality of life.  At some point its going to have to be dealt with.  And a logical place to start is with closing off our borders.

As far as your of "us" versus "them" accusations, save it.  Those tactics are merely used to silence opposition.  They have been overused and are no longer effective. 

So instead of arguing emotions, explain to me, using LOGIC, how it makes sense for Americans to open our borders and allow unlimited immigration.

I don't "hate" any one from any other country - just because I love my country and want it to be OK... just because I put the citizens in my country ahead of others from another country doesn't mean I "hate" them.

As to resources - if one person shares a drink of water from a cup with one person, they both get a drink. April, people that are denied asylum are allowed to appeal the decision. There is a possibility she is awaiting that decision. There is an incredible back log of people awaiting these judgements.

And since I haven't seen her case file, and I think I can safely assume you haven't either, neither of us know for certain where in the process she is at. Nor do we know the exact circumstances surrounding it.

As for the situation with housing: Yes, something needs to be changed, it needs to be fixed. If you don't like the way it's set up, work with local agencies and government to fix it. Get involved.

Interestingly enough, even with 11 trillion dollars in debt, roads are still being constructed and power poles being erected...new cable and phone and water and every other utility is still being maintained and expanded.

Who is the government's debt collecter? I think I just saw the repo guy take a TV out of the White house till they start paying whoever they supposedly owe back.

Unlimited migration? So everyone in the world is moving to the united states? There is no such thing. It's an absolute statement and therefore completely false. Even if we completely opened the doors(which we would never allow, because it too is an absolute statement), you still will not have the entire world's poor enter into the country. We only share borders with two countries. And the coasts. So that means to enter the country you have to enter through Mexico, Canada, by boat, or take a plane. Pretty similar to what we have setup now. If people are so poor, how are they going to get here? Hijack a plane? Last time I checked that's illegal.

As to your second point, I seem to remember when a large majority of the eastern half of the country lost power for days. I don't think immigrants caused that. Poor design and poor implementation of infrastructure did. So maybe instead of railing against immigrants you ought to rail against poor design, management, and execution of infrastructure in this country. And once again, your whole argument is based of the assumption that the country will grow in size with unlimited numbers.

If people don't stop drinking milk, eventually, all the milk in the world will be gone! We must stop this unlimited consumption of milk!

As for how immigration helps us... let's say we believe the infrastructure is indeed collapsing all around us. The sky is falling and so on.

Who built the railroads? Immigrants mostly. So there is an example of how immigrants can be helpful in maintaining and even improving our country. All that we need to do is seriously address the issues of power usage, water usage, and infrastructure in general, and I know that at least one person helping to make those things better, will be an undocumented worker.

My example of having blank checks comes to mind.  I can write hot check after hot check and get that new iPod and latest notebook computer.  So what if the checks bounce.  I also have plenty of room on the credit card and that new living room set sure looks nice.  Doesn't matter if I don't make the money to pay the card back, and definitely don't make enough to pay the interest.  I can spend beyond my means with no reprecussions.  Not a wise move for long term financial stability.

Don't misquote me.  I never said "no illegal immigrant has EVER helped the country".  But there ARE immigrants, such as Obama's aunt (not to pick on Obama personally), that does nothing for this country but to provide another mouth to feed at U.S. taxpayer expense.

We obviously cannot deport all illegal aliens, but we CAN mandate that they must be self-sustaining if they are going to be here.  If they are going to do nothing but lounge around and live off the backs of U.S. taxpayers, then they are of no benefit to this nation and we therefore don't need them.  There are millions in this country that do this very thing.  The ONLY reason that Obama's aunt made the news was because of her famous nephew.  Those that take the route of shiftlessness are a burden to us; not a benefit.  And if they choose to be a burden, they can do so in their own country.

This is where I have major disagreements with GWB.  Instead of going after the working illegals such as the ones rounded up in the chicken factories, ICE should have been checking the welfare rolls and started deporting from THIS list first.

I agree with you that immigration is a big deal.

The only reason I made any comment at all is because you started going off about letting ALL of the world's poor into the country.

This as I have stated will never happen.

I agree that our economy and infrastructure does need to be taken of. My point is that even without any further immigration, the system still needs to be fixed and many immigrants could help us in this respect.

I don't know. Isn't it possible she is self sufficient? Could one reason he living in public housing, because she has yet to recieve her visa?

What I can say is that it is unfair to label everyone living in public housing as lazy and incapable of benefitting our country. People have bad spells in life all the time. Some people are just siphoning off the system. They should be based on a case by case basis.

I think we would be better served if we focused less on immigration and more on infrastructure and the economy.

They are related I realize, but if we really are supposed to be more worried about what population growth does to our overburdened system, we should focus on solutions and decrease our focus on immigration. Immigration does cause population growth. But I think you are saying that we as a country even without immigration are still growing. I'm not sure what the numbers suggest about the rate, but even without immigration our growing population still poses a threat to our country. We should take action to prevent that threat from materializing on a wide scale.

As for jobs outsourced, we need to go after companies and corporations that have or are seeking to do so. This problem has been around for several years, and has yet to be really addressed by any leadership of either party. What solutions do you propose to that, determined?
