HELSINKI — Nokia Corp., the world's leading mobile phone maker, on Tuesday announced restructuring plans that affect more than 600 employees, primarily in its marketing and research functions.
The changes involve 450 employees in its marketing unit, 130 staff at Nokia's research center and 35 employees in other units, the Finnish company said
"Today's changes are part of Nokia's constant renewal where it is important to be close to our customers and ensure that our people are able to focus on the key business priorities," Nokia Senior Vice President Juha Akras said. He added that the company would try to find other jobs for as many of the affected employees as possible.
The changes would take effect on Jan. 1.
In addition, Nokia said it plans to close an office in Turku, western Finland, and move the 220 employees there to another site in Finland, by the end of January next year.
