PRAGUE — Inflation slowed in the Czech Republic and unemployment fell in October as the global crisis is yet to affect the country, officials said Monday.
Annual inflation dropped to this year's lowest level of 6.0 percent from 6.6 percent in September, the Czech Statistics Office said. The office said falling prices for fuel and transport contributed to the result.
Unemployment was at 5.2 percent in October, down from the 5.3 percent in each of the previous three months, the Labor and Social Affairs Ministry said in a statement.
A total of 311,705 people were without jobs in October, it said. In October 2007, unemployment was 5.8 percent.
The Czech export-oriented economy was likely to suffer as its major trading partners, including Europe's biggest economy Germany, face an economic slowdown and the jobless rate was expected to go up in the coming months.
