US dollar mostly down in Europe

The U.S. dollar was mostly lower against other major currencies in European trading Monday . Gold rose.

The euro traded at $1.2857, up from $1.2587 late Friday in New York.

Other dollar rates:

_96.43 Japanese yen, up from 95.84

_1.1996 Swiss francs, down from 1.2225

_1.2281 Canadian dollars, down from 1.2685

The British pound was quoted at $1.5144, up from $1.4908.

Gold traded in London at $822.50 per troy ounce, up from $758.50 late Friday.
