SANTIAGO — Chilean officials say the economy grew by 4.1 percent in the 12 months ending in September compared to 4.8 percent a year earlier.
The Central Bank reports 4.8 percent growth during the third quarter of this year compared to 5.3 percent in 2007, partly due to three more working days.
Growth for the first nine months of 2008 stands at 4.2 percent, down from 4.7 percent last year.
The bank said Monday it expects a 4 to 4.5 percent economic growth for this year and 2 to 3 percent for 2009.
The economy grew by 5.1 percent in 2007.
The bank says that economic growth will slow during 2009 as a result of the international crisis, but the country will not fall into a recession.
