MEAUX — French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Friday he plans to unveil a euro19 billion ($24.5 billion) stimulus package next week which will help the country's struggling car industry and support the economy through government spending on infrastructure.
The plan, to be detailed on Thursday, will also include help for the construction industry, housing and the environment, he said.
The measures form part of a proposed euro200 billion (US$256.22 billion) European Union package to boost the bloc's economy through spending and tax cuts. National governments are to provide euro170 billion — 1.2 percent of the EU's GDP — according to European Commission plans announced Wednesday.
