TAIPEI — Taiwan shares surged Monday, tracking strength on Wall Street and on regional bourses.
The Weighted Price Index of the Taiwan Stock Exchange rose 193.26 points, or 4.6 percent, to close at 4418.33.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, the world's largest chip contractor, gained 7 percent to close at 39.80 New Taiwan dollars.
TSMC's shares plunged Friday after the company lowered its fourth quarter sales forecast amid expectations of a protracted global economic slowdown.
